Her first class had taken up a total of two hours on the first day; two hours that would have been more boring for Louise Belcher had she not gotten the surprise that Logan Bush was the new scientific concepts teacher. She had been genuinely surprised that he seemed to know what he was talking about. She remembered him as a seventeen year old boy who would find the joy in farting into his hand and blowing the terrible smell into her face. But, as she realized, the unteachable were finally taught. Logan had been educated and chose to go into a field of the sciences, just like his father had done.
Then she had twenty minutes of nutrition break to kill, which she spent with Annie and Aimee in the senior pavilions outside. It was a privilege for the senior students that was given to them by the school. They got to have nutrition and lunch meals on the outside benches, while everyone else had to eat in the lunch room inside the school.
The three girls had taken an entire table for themselves, as was usual for them. Louise sat with her tray of food in front of her, Annie and Aimee both sat across from her, going on about how they had gone to see their older brother play for the United States under-twenty football national team in New Zealand over the summer. Apparently, the boys had gotten pretty far into the competition until they were eliminated by the team who ultimately won the world cup. While the twins had spent a summer in a foreign country, Louise had merely spent it bored at home. Gene and Tina were no longer around to wreak havoc with her, and even if they were around, she knew they were too mature and responsible to participate in any mischief with her. It was like they ha grown up so much faster than her, even though they were only a couple of years older. Gene still had his sense of humor, and that portable piano of his, but he was more responsible and reserved. His loudness had been toned down over the years.
"We should totally hook up Louise and Paul." Aimee suggested with excitement as she took a bite of her blueberry bagel covered in cream cheese. Paul was the name of Aimee and Annie's older football playing brother. Of the two twins, Aimee was the one who called the shots, while Annie always did what her sister wanted. That was the difference between them ans Andy and Ollie. The Pesto twins did everything equally. Neither of them was in charge when it came to them. "Then when the new teacher and I start dating, we can double date. We'll have to find someone for Annie too-"
Louise, who was drinking from her carton of chocolate milk, almost choked on it and spit it out. It sprayed all over her two friends who only laughed in amusement. "You can't date the new teacher." She told her friend, outraged.
"Why not?" Aimee asked innocently. She didn't see why Louise would object. She wasn't aware that Logan and Louise knew each other.
"Because." Was all Louise replied like it was a perfectly good explanation. She knew Logan, and she couldn't imagine someone she knew from home dating someone she knew from her new school. Those things just didn't go well together in her eyes. On the other hand, most of the girls at St. Mary's were rich and snobby, and that was how she knew Logan to be from when they were younger. Still, she couldn't picture Aimee and Logan together.
"Because why?" Aimee just wouldn't let it go.
"I think Aimee should get to date whoever she wants." Annie defended.
Louise let out a painful groan. "Do you realize that if you date the new teacher, he could get fired? We're seventeen years old. He's twenty five."
"I'm going to be eighteen in three months." Aimee said, wiggling her index finger at Louise. That was one of Aimee Arriola's habits. Whenever she talked about something that was proof, she would wiggle her finger in a back and forth motion almost like it was nodding yes. It almost reminded Louise of when her dad talked to random objects and then made them talk back to him. But Aimee didn't do that. Her finger merely nodded, but didn't talk. The twin with brunette and blonde ombre in her hair added with a satisfied smile, "I can wait that long."
Louise thought about what her friend had told her. Annie and Aimee were going to be eighteen in about three months and a couple of days. She--on the other hand--wouldn't be turning eighteen for another nine months, nearly ten. That was almost the entirety of her senior year at St. Mary's Academy. She quickly willed the thought away. What did it matter to her that she was going to be seventeen for nine more months, while Annie and Aimee were going to turn eighteen before her? Aimee wanted to go out with Logan, she didn't. She would let the twins worry about it then.
"When we start dating," Aimee continued with her fantasies about dating Logan. "You can date my brother Paul and we'll all be really happy."
The girl with ebony black hair crossed her arms over her chest. The thought didn't amuse her, and much less did it make her happy.

The school day was over that afternoon and Louise had gone to football practice with Annie and Aimee. When she was admitted to St. Mary's Academy, she had been told by mother superior that she would need to join a team or a club, which was required for all the girls at the school. Louise had thought to create her own club, like the time she created an independent study to get out of PE. But she decided against it when she remember how that had turned out.
She knew that mother superior wouldn't have much consideration for her, since the school was Louise's last straw. Instead, she decided she would join a team. Annie and Aimee had connections with the football team since the coach knew their brother was a professional footballer. They had gotten Louise on the team as well.
The field where they practiced was next to the parking lot, which was in between the school and the football field. The team was practicing their goal scoring techniques and Louise had stepped up. The coach rolled the ball forward, and she was supposed to run up and take the kick towards the net. But instead of going into the net like she had planned, she ended up kicking it too hard and it went over, rolling away towards the parking lot.
Louise followed after it slowly after her feet touched the concrete and asphalt of the parking lot. Football shoes were rather slippery on concrete and she had seen many of her team mates fall on their asses while hurrying after a ball. The seventeen year old followed her stray football which coincidentally happened to stop under a parked car, which was about to back out of its parking space. She recklessly stood behind the slow moving car and tapped on the trunk to get the driver to stop. The car came to an abrupt halt and from it sprang the person inside.
"Shit, did I hit you?" He asked, offering a stream of apologies. "I'm really sorry. I just looked at my phone for a second and I didn't notice you standing there." Once he noticed it was Louise, his expression changed entirely. "Oh, its you."
The girl with jet black hair, clad in her football practice uniform rolled her eyes at the school's newest teacher. "You could have ran me over, ass wipe."
"Well who asked you to stand behind a moving car?" He challenged, shooting her a glare.
"If you must know." She sighed. He noticed the way her pink bunny ears hat was back. It was after school hours and she was allowed to wear it on her free time. Her jet black hair was pulled back into a pony tail, beneath the pink material over her head. "I was just trying to get my football that rolled away when I was practicing." She gestured under his car and he then noticed her football cleats, also noticing the football underneath his car.
"Standing behind my moving car was your best plan to get that football?" He eyes her, raising an eyebrow at her.
She gave a slight shrug of her shoulders, uncaring. "I figured that if the new teacher ran me over, they would let me return home sooner and then I wouldn't have to continue living a boring ass life at this rich people school."
"That's right." Logan recalled as though he had forgotten that she was from the other end of the country. "You're not from around here. Then why are you here?"
Louise didn't want to go too far into details. "A little incident involving Mr. Frond's office and some fire."
He remembered having heard about that on the news. Someone had burned down a guidance counselor's office back in his home town, and a sixteen year old girl had been taken in as a suspect. He always knew Louise had it in her to do something like that, but he was still rather surprised. His eyes widened as he asked, "That was you?"
The girl with the bunny ears gave a nod of her head. "What are you doing here, Logan? Shouldn't you be skateboarding with your stupid friends somewhere?" Louise remembered that he had been really into skateboarding when he was seventeen. He had probably already gotten over it, since he was twenty five now, but the last time she saw him, he was eighteen and loved to skateboard.
"My aunt is the mother superior and principal of this prestigious little school, and I needed a job as far away from home as possible. I honestly just wanted to get away from my mother's nagging. I'm twenty-five years old for fucks sake, and she treats me like I'm still a kid." He explained, but then paused when he realized he didn't have to give a seventeen year old any explanations. He looked down at his car, where the football was, and said to her, "Hurry up and take your stupid ball, four ears." Four ears. The teasing nickname he had given her the first day they met. He had been a cocky seventeen year old, and she a pesky little nine year old. They both had hated each other from that very first day.
Louise scoffed at him, repeating the very same line of response she had for that nickname when she was nine. "With four ears I can ignore you twice as hard." She crossed her arms over her chest defiantly.
Now that he had made it a challenge for her, she refused to get the football from under the car. No one back at practice had even taken notice that she was gone. They were all focused on their practicing because they were going to have their first game of the semester that weekend, and they wanted to be prepared.
Logan sighed in frustration.
"Fine, I'll do it." He went over to the driver's side, where his car was set to park, and shut the engine off. Without saying anything to her, he pushed her out of the way and rolled the sleeves of his dress shirt up his arms. He then got down on his hands and knees next to Louise. Logan looked under the back end of his car and saw her football. He reached for it, but it was caught between the asphalt below, and a metal part of his car. Louise watched him trying to get the football out for her with amusement on her face.
It took him a couple of minutes, and a bit of a struggle, but he finally managed to get the football from underneath his car. Instead of handing it to her like any polite instructor would, he childishly kicked it back towards the football field, where it happened to hit Aimee Arriola in the head. He waved in apology to her, while Aimee smiled back with an idiotic smile and a hand rubbing the sore spot on her head where the ball hit her. Louise shot him one final glare before she returned to her football practice, carefully walking on the gravel in a walk that resembled a penguin. Logan laughed at her before getting back into his car and driving away.
As a professor at the catholic school for rich girls, his aunt had welcomed him to stay there. She had a small house on the property just for him. But he wanted to be able to come and go as he pleased. He was an adult after all. And he got a nice house, with his parents' money, a few blocks away from his new work place.

Over dinner that afternoon, Louise was changed out of her sweaty football clothes, and met up with the twins in the dining hall. She had showered and changed into ripped skinny jeans and a band t-shirt, while Annie and Aimee had dressed into girly dresses, as they always did in the afternoons. But Louise had enough of dresses during school hours. Their uniform was a dark green dress with a white rounded collar and knee high dark green socks. Green was her favorite color, but the uniform dress had killed it for her.
In the afternoons, the girls were allowed to have dinner wherever they wanted. Louise, Annie, and Aimee had gone out to the senior pavilions. They were having pasta that night, and salad to go along with it. But Louise could only think of her new teacher.
What were the odds that she and Logan would meet again, in an entirely different part of the country?
Taking a forkful of pasta into her mouth, Annie spoke in her cheerful tone. She was trying to make some casual conversation to get the other two girls at the table to talk. "I saw the new teacher helping Louise get her football out from underneath his car." She said.
"I know." Aimee cooed with excitement. "Isn't he just the sweetest?"
"Totally sweet." Louise said sarcastically, stabbing her bread stick with her fork--a bit too violently.
"And did you see how he waved at me?" Aimee grinned, remembering the events that had transpired during their football practice.
Her twin sister nodded her head happily. "He's so into you!"
"He was apologizing for hitting you in the head with a football. I don't know how you came to the conclusion that he's into you based on that." Louise pointed out rather bluntly. She didn't want her friend getting her hopes up when it was obvious that Logan clearly wasn't interested in her. Louise was even willing to bet that with his education and money, among other things, he probably already had a girlfriend.
Aimee quickly shook her head, willing the negative thoughts away. "Louise! Stop being such a negative nelly. Professor Logan is into me. Annie noticed."
Annie will say anything to please you, Louise thought.
"Whatever. You guys can think whatever you want. I honestly couldn't care less." Louise finally scoffed after a moment. "Can we just talk about something else now? I'm so done talking about Logan Barry Bush."
She was done talking about him. But more importantly, she needed a way to get her friend Aimee to stop talking about him, and forget about dating Logan as well.
