Aimee sulked all through dinner after the news that Louise had given her. The brunette with ombre dyed blonde tips pushed the food around on her plate miserably as she propped her head on her hand. With an overly loud sigh, she told the two girls, "I can't believe professor Bush has a girlfriend. Where does that leave me? Where does that leave us?" The seventeen year old asked dramatically.
Louise snorted, but said nothing.
There was no you and him, she almost wanted to tell her friend. But she had done enough by informing her that Logan had a girlfriend, and that the girlfriend was a beautiful former Miss Universe.
"It was obvious considering how handsome he is." Annie was the one who spoke up next.
"I know." Aimee whined. "But I still hoped."
In an attempt to continue burying Aimee's chances, or hopes with Logan, Louise informed them, "She's a former Miss Universe." She repeated what she had already told them before. "Apparently she's going to be a celebrity judge at the Miss America pageant that will happen in town some time soon. She'll be gone as soon as it's over to go host the Miss Mexico pageant."
"Oh!" Annie suddenly recognized the model based on the information Louise had given them. "She must be the famous Mexican super model Maria Valentina Orizaba." Of the two twins, Louise knew she could trust Annie to know about super models. Annie Arriola Hendricks had always been into fashion and modeling her whole life. Her father was an affluent man who often helped her land modeling gigs for important brands and commercials, though she couldn't always do them because it was difficult getting permission from the school to let her attend those gigs. Aimee had tried to do modeling as well, but she immediately left it when she realized it wasn't something she enjoyed. Aimee Arriola was more interested in dance.
"Yes!" Louise snapped her fingers together, the name triggering memories of their earlier encounter in her mind. "Logan kept calling her Maria, so that must be her."
Now Aimee was the one who snorted. "Miss Universe 2010? I remember she was in a Mexican novela with that hunk William Levy. Her acting was terrible, but they only gave her the starring role because she was beautiful. Her acting always made Paul and I laugh. We would watch her novela just to make fun of her." For the moment, it seemed like she had forgotten about sulking ans was instead giggling in amusement.
"She more commonly just goes by Maria Valentina, without the surname." Annie continued with the information she was giving them. "She became Miss Universe at age eighteen, one of the youngest Miss Universe pageant winners to this day. She's twenty three years old now."
Louise said in a very nonchalant way, "No one can really compete with that."
Annie agreed. "Maria Valentina is young and highly accomplished."
"But I really like professor Bush." Aimee cried out in a tantrum as she let her head fall onto the lunch table with a light thud. "I want him for myself."
"Just get over it." Louise suggested.
"No." The twin refused. Lifting her head as an idea came to her, she grinned at her sister and Louise. "You guys have to help me. Help me get his attention during class so that I can talk to him."
Annie quickly agreed, but Louise wasn't so sure that she wanted to see Aimee flirting with Logan.
-
That night in their dorm room, Louise was laid on her bed, facing the ceiling with her phone in her hands. She had her internet page open to wikipedia, where she was reading the biography of none other than Maria Valentina Orizaba, the woman who had arrived from Mexico that day to visit Logan.
A few feet from her were the twins laid out on Aimee's bed, talking loudly and laughing at something on their computer. Louise didn't care much, but they were probably talking to their brother. The twins were very fond and very close with their older brother Paul. They had been together most of their lives until the twins were sent off to boarding school and Paul was sent abroad to special soccer camps where he would hone his skills. It was their weekly ritual when they would video message with him, their voices booming and loud as they told him everything about their week. He was the only one in their family who actually paid attention to them. Their father was always busy at work and their mother was always out travelling or shopping.
"Will you please keep it down?" Louise groaned loudly, setting her phone down on the pillow beside her. "I'm trying to read." For all they knew, she could have been reading a lesson from her text book for class and there they were yammering away.
"Sorry." Annie called from the bed they were laid on. "We were just wishing Paul good luck. He's going to play his first home game of the season this Friday."
From the computer, Louise heard a muffled glitchy voice asking, "Is Louise in the room?"
"Yes." Annie and Aimee said in unison.
"Tell her I said hi., and that I send her a big hug from here in Tijuana. I hope you girls get to watch my game this weekend." He said to his sisters and Louise could almost hear the smile in his tone. Louise and Paul hadn't actually met yet, at least not in person. But the twins had convinced him that Louise was into him. They only knew each other through pictures, well Paul knew Louise through pictures. Louise knew Paul through the live streams of his football games that the twins would force her to watch. The both of them were adamant about getting Paul and Louise to start dating.
Both twins opened their mouths to pass on the message, but they were interrupted by the seventeen year old with jet black hair.
"I can hear him." She informed her friends with a playful roll of her green eyes. "Hey Paul."
Aimee wiggled her eyebrows at Louise. "You can talk to my brother alone if you want to."
"Or you can just give him your phone number." Annie suggested with a wide grin on her lips.
"I think I'll pass." Louise replied with a smug smile playing on her lips. She had now given up her plans or reading Maria Valentina's wikipedia page for a confirmation that she was dating Logan Bush. Pushing herself off her bed, she headed for the exit, informing her room mates, "I'll see you two later, I have a lot of homework to do."
-
Louise Belcher left her dorm room to go to the library, but it wasn't for any homework she had due. She was there to make a second attempt at reading Maria Valentina's wikipedia page. The library was very quiet at that time of day, and wouldn't be closing for several more hours. Louise didn't like the library computers too much. Since her school was a boarding school for rich girls, they had the most advanced computers, which were donated by people who had either attended the school or had daughters who went there.
But as advanced as those computers were, they took too long to load up the desktop after a student typed in their information. Louise tapped her fingers on the cool surface of the desk where the computer was propped.
When the computer took several minutes to even start up and she got an incoming face time call, Louise hurried out of her chair in the enormous library, and half-ran outside to answer it. It was a call from back home, her green eyes reading Andy & Ollie Pesto on her home screen. It was her other friends, who also happened to be twins.
She was outside of the main building, in the rose garden by one of the back walls before she hit the answer button. Her running out to the garden had her out of breath as she greeted the twins from the rival restaurant across the street. "Hey Andy, hey Ollie." She waved her hand in front of the phone screen. From what she could see on her screen, they were face timing her from their laptop in their bedroom. Both of them were very glad to see her.
"Hey Louise!" They said in unison.
Louise had always been surprised how many of the things they did or said were in perfect unison. Annie and Aimee were similar to them in that sense.
"How's everything back home?" She asked them with a small smile.
"Everything's great." Andy informed her. "Though a little uneventful since you left. Ollie and I have no one to cause mischief with."
"None of our ideas are good." Ollie added. But he quickly corrected himself, "Well, Andy's ideas are great."
"No, yours are better." Andy argued.
"No, yours." Ollie insisted.
Louise decided to cut them off before they could start again. "Guys. Focus." She knew they could go on four hours praising each other in front of her, if she wouldn't dare to stop them. They had always been that way.
"So, when are you coming back?" Ollie asked her cheerfully.
The girl with jet black hair sighed, adjusting the pink bunny ears hat on her head, which she had just noticed had gone askew when she rushed out of the library.
"December." She said. That was nearly five long months away.
Both boys frowned, but Andy was the one who spoke. "You should hurry up and return because Ollie and I have a surprise for you."
At the mention of a surprise, Louise's green eyes brightened with excitement.
"A surprise?" She eyed them.
The twins nodded. Ollie opened his mouth to speak, but was interrupted by the loud booming voice of Jimmy Pesto coming from out in the hallway.
"Andy! Ollie!" He called, knocking on the door to their bedroom before opening it. There he was, standing out in the hallway with his white button down, black slacks, and a tie with the Italian flag design on it. His thick brown hair had showing signs of greying and on his face was that permanent sour look he seemed to carry on at all hours. The twins turned in acknowledgement to him and the older man continued, "I need you to help me at the restaurant. The dinner rush is big today."
"Okay dad." Ollie said.
They turned their attention back to Louise, and Andy informed her, "Gotta go, Louise."
"Louise?" Jimmy Pesto raised an eyebrow. "Bob's kid?"
The boys nodded.
The older man entered the room, cutting the distance between himself and the computer. Coming into its view, he said with an arrogant smirk. "How are your parents doing, Louise?" Before she could answer, he answered his own question. "Shitty as always. They have even less customers than ever." He had even laughed at his own words, which made Louise's eye twitch in annoyance.
Louise rolled her eyes and the twins groaned in embarrassment.
"Bye Louise." Andy and Ollie said in unison and ended the video call.
Louise didn't know what the deal with that whole rivalry of her dad with Jimmy Pesto was. But she had always found it ironic how Jimmy Jr. had ended up dating Tina, and how Andy and Ollie were two of her best friends despite the intense rivalry between their dads.
It was nice getting a call from home, even if Jimmy Pesto tried to ruin it once in a while.
