*Am I the only one who loves mullets on certain guys?*
_______________________________
You were sitting down on the ground, staring at your three month old daughter who was on the baby bouncer. She was babbling away while looking at her toys.
"I love you and all but you need to sleep", you told her, poking her foot.
She giggled and continued to look around.
A smile formed on your face. After all the painful months of carrying her around in your stomach, the lack of sleep before and after she was born, you still managed to smile because you love her that much.
You turned your head once you heard a knock on the door. Making sure your daughter is occupied, you stood up and headed for the door. When you opened it, you froze as Minghao stood in front of you.
"Hey", he softly smiled while holding a bouquet of flowers.
Without saying anything, you wrapped your arms around him and hugged him. You hadn't seen him since you were six months pregnant.
"What are you doing here? I thought-"
"I wanted to see you. I've actually been wanting to see you for a while now", he said.
You let him in the house, placing the bouquet of flowers in a vase. Minghao walked towards the living room to find your daughter babbling to herself. He smiled and bent down to get a closer look.
"What's her name?", he asked.
"Gyuri", you said, sitting down on the couch.
He carefully carried her and sat down on the ground, leaning against the couch that you were on. He placed his finger on her little hand, feeling how it wraps around.
"Her skin is so soft", he said.
"Yeah", you softly chuckled, resting your head on the pillow.
Minghao sighed and slightly turned his head to look at you.
"I'm surprised you're actually talking to me", he said.
"Why wouldn't I? You're my best friend", you said.
"Right....It's just the last time we saw each other was-"
"Please don't bring it up. I moved on from that. I know you didn't mean it", you said.
"It's not right what I said though. I was just angry. You turned out to be an amazing mother. Obviously from how perfect Gyuri turned out. You don't know how badly I wanted to be there. Not in the room while you were giving birth but like waiting outside, cheering you on", he said.
You rolled your eyes and chuckled. Minghao turned back to look at Gyuri who was curiously looking back at him.
"Does she let you sleep?", he asked.
"She was very colicky for the first two months but she's doing fine now. I mean I still don't get a lot of sleep but I don't care. As long as she's still getting sleep, I don't care if I don't get any", you said.
He smiled, knowing what he said back then was incredibly wrong. He felt really bad the second he saw tears in your eyes. He wishes he can go back to that day and do it differently.
"I'm really glad you didn't put her up for adoption. I mean, I would've supported you either way. I know that was your first choice but you've grown tremendously. I'm really proud of you", he said.
He was waiting for you to say something but all he heard was heavy breathing. He turned around and tried not to make noise as he saw you sleeping while hugging the pillow.
"Looks like mommy fell asleep. She must be very tired", he whispered to the baby.
Minghao carried Gyuri to her room and admired the small toys and decorations that complimented the paint on the walls. He walked over towards the pictures on the small dresser and smiled. There were a bunch of you and Gyuri.
"Mommy loves you so much, hm", he looked at Gyuri.
He stopped on the last picture which was of you and him under an Apple tree that you planted when you were eight. You promised each other under that tree that you'd be there for each other no matter what, even times when you're mad at each other.
Just by looking at that picture, he got an idea.
"What do you think Gyuri? Should I take you and your mom on a trip? She deserves a break. Are you willing to help me?", he asked her.
Gyuri grabbed a hold of his nose, causing him to chuckle.
"I'll take that as a yes."
~~~
You slept for a good three hours. When you woke up, you quickly sat up and noticed Minghao sitting in front of Gyuri who was sleeping on the baby bouncer.
"Hey, got enough rest?", he asked.
"Yeah...she fell asleep", you said, sitting down next to him.
"Oh yeah I actually noticed the feeding timer on the fridge and I fed her an hour ago. I just followed the instructions that you have next to the timer. She fell asleep quickly", he said.
"Really? It takes me two hours to get her to sleep. She must really like you", you said, smiling down at your sleeping baby.
You grabbed her empty bottle and placed it in the sink, washing it so it won't smell like milk that has gone bad.
"So.."
Minghao leaned against the counter and scratched his head. You were curious to what he was gonna say so you turned around and faced him.
"How long has it been since you've gotten out of the house?", he asked.
"Like I have time for that. I have to work from home because I can't get anyone to take care of Gyuri. The neighbor sometimes helps me but she's 78 years old. She gets tired easily. So maybe five months? The only time I go out is when I have to get groceries", you said.
"Remember the apple tree where we used hang out? How about we go back and visit? We can take Gyuri with us. Maybe show her around where we grew up", he said.
"..I don't know Minghao. I mean, usually when I take her out she gets grumpy really fast. And I always try to calm her down but she gets more fussy", you said.
"(Y/n), maybe the reason why she gets like that is because you're always worrying. You need time to relax and calm yourself. We can go and if you need time to yourself, I have no problem taking care of Gyuri. I wanna help you (y/n)", he said, placing his hand on your arm.
The same feeling returned. Back then you thought it was just because you were sad and he was comforting you. But after that kiss, you knew it wasn't a good idea to get too close to him. You were five months pregnant at the time of the kiss but a month later the two of you got into an argument because you had mentioned you were gonna give the baby up for adoption. He didn't really like that idea and yelled at you saying maybe the baby is better off without you and that you will never be a good mother. You couldn't handle it so you left. Sure you were upset but as time passed you forgave him.
"Okay. When?", you asked.
"Whenever you want", he smiled.
~~~
The next day, the three of you drove up for about five hours until you arrived at his parents' house. They welcomed you and your baby, telling Minghao to put your bags into the guest room. His mom was carrying Gyuri, kissing her cheeks and talking to her in a baby voice. They were surprised that you ended up with a baby that wasn't their son's because they would always say you two would end up married. You were a bit embarrassed but you missed her humor.
You walked out onto the backyard and noticed the apple tree that had grown huge. The apples looked so delicious. You stood under the tree and closed your eyes, remembering all the fun you had with Minghao.
His mom came out and smiled. She stood next to you with Gyuri in her arms.
"My son told me about what he said to you when you were pregnant. He regretted it, you know. He called me crying, saying that he was really stupid for saying that to you. I corrected him though. I feel like that anger he expressed came from how much he cares about you. This goes on from years. He expressed a bit of anger when you went out with your first boyfriend, and when you introduced him to Minghao, and more anger when you told him you were pregnant by 'that low-life soul-sucking scum'. That's what he called him. Anyways, I tried explaining everything to him but he didn't want to admit it himself", she said.
"Admit What?", you asked.
"Sweetie, he loves you. And not in a best friend way", she chuckled.
You raised an eyebrow and was about to speak but you had no idea what to say. But she did.
"Oh and if you haven't figured it out yet, you love him too. I know it's weird because you two have known each other for years but that's what makes it even easier. You love each other for who you are but you two don't realize what kind of love it is. You're still young so I understand. I've known my husband since we were in high school and we didn't realize were in love with each other until we've seen one another with someone else. The reason why my son hasn't been with anyone is because he already knows who he wants to be with. Now, you can't say that I'm wrong because he did tell me about the kiss. Yes he tells me everything. I'm not forcing you to feel anything. I just don't want you guys to miss an opportunity that'll make the both of you happy", she said.
You didn't even have time to process everything she said as Minghao walked out and towards you two. His mom looked at you for a few seconds before going back inside with Gyuri. Minghao smiled as he stood in front of you, looking up at the tree.
"The tree got more beautiful", you said.
"Yeah, my mom took care of it. My dad just likes picking the apples", he said.
You laughed, turning your head to glance at the swing that was attached to a branch. You carefully sat down and slowly swung your legs. Minghao got behind you and helped.
"Can I ask you something?", you asked.
"Sure", he said.
"So...Remember that night when you had that barbecue with your friends at your house? You invited me last minute and I wore the sweater that you left behind. We were out in the front yard on the porch looking at the stars. Then you said you wanted your sweater back. Honestly I thought you were being serious. Then you pulled me closer to you. Did you feel anything when we kissed?", you asked.
He stopped pushing you and kneeled down in front of you, making sure he was looking into your eyes. Obviously you were blushing so you decided to ask something else.
"Actually...why did you get mad when I told you I was gonna give the baby up for adoption?", you asked.
"Which one do you want me to answer?", he asked.
"..both", you said.
He lightly nodded and placed his hands over yours.
"I don't really know how to explain it. Even though I really hate your ex boyfriend, I was actually happy that you were having a baby. Then when you told me you were gonna give it up for adoption, I felt like I was losing a part of you. I know it sounds stupid. But even when I yelled at you those horrible things, I lost all of you. I felt like crap because I made you cry. I've never done that before. I really thought you weren't gonna talk to me anymore", he said.
"We made a promise, remember? We'll forgive each other even when we're mad", you said.
"We were kids. You have a right to be mad at me-"
"I'm not mad at you. Are you mad at me for even thinking about giving Gyuri away?", you asked.
"No-"
"Good. Then we're both not angry. Can we talk about something else?", you asked.
"Nope. I still haven't answered your first question yet. About the kiss, I admit I don't regret it. You're my best friend and I don't wanna keep lying to you. There are these feelings that are hard for me to control. These past couple of months that I haven't seen you have been hard for me. I couldn't focus on work. All I kept thinking about is how you were doing. I missed you like crazy. You can even ask my friends. I would always talk about you. I even talk about you when I'm by myself. I have dreams about you. It's just some things that happen without me even realizing it. I had a talk with someone-"
"Your mom?", you asked, surprising him.
"How'd you know?", he asked.
"She told me everything", you chuckled.
"Ahh she did..of course she did", Minghao scratched the back of his neck while awkwardly laughing.
"You seriously cried?", you asked, trying not to smile.
"Yeah go ahead. Make fun", he poked your stomach.
"Well, it's only fair to tell you that I don't regret the kiss either", you said.
He smiled widely and fixed his shirt, feeling a bit cocky.
"Really?", he asked.
"If you don't wipe that smirk off your face, I will smack you", you said.
He laughed and stood up, placing both hands on the rope. He looked down at you and noticed you were avoiding his eyes.
"You're cute when you're embarrassed", he said.
"And you're cute wh-"
"I'm cute? Thanks", he smirked.
You rolled your eyes and tried punching him on the chest but he was quick enough to grab your wrist
"You're still so slow", he chuckled.
He pulled you up on your feet and held your hand, keeping a smile on his face.
"You know, I would kiss you right now but your mom is watching us through the window", you said.
He quickly glanced over and noticed his mom quickly move so she wouldn't be seen. He smirked and placed a hand on your lower back, pulling you in for a kiss. Obviously he didn't care that his mom was watching you.
His mom came out with Gyuri and held her hands to clap. You quickly pulled away and dug your face onto his chest.
"Finally. It took you guys long enough", she said.
"Remind me to never tell you any more secrets", he said to her.
"Yeah but then this wouldn't have happened, right Gyuri?", she asked your daughter who was playing with one of her toys.
Minghao held onto you so you wouldn't pull back. He kept his eyes on you, enjoying the moment.
"So when's the wedding?", she asked.
"W-Wedding? You were serious?", you asked, baffled.
"Would that be such a bad thing?", he asked you.
You didn't realize he was joking until you saw him fail to hide his smile. Lightly pushing him away, you went over to grab Gyuri to give her a bottle.
"I mean really? Under the apple tree wedding? No?", her mother kept asking as she followed you into the house, making Minghao even more happy.
