Joshua (Pt. 2)

Joshua and I were in his car, driving back from our date. I enjoyed it and hopefully he did too. We spent around five minutes talking in his car before I had to go inside my house.

"I had fun. Hopefully we can do that again", he said.

"Sure. I'd love that. And I had fun too", I said.

He glanced over at the front door and then back at me. I didn't want today to end. It was the best first day at school and the best first date.

"Do you want me to walk you to your door?", he asked.

"Umm...yeah", I said, slightly blushing.

We got out of the car and my heart was racing as we walked towards the front door while holding hands. To think I might have my first kiss with him.

We awkwardly stood in front of each other, nervous about what would happen next. Our eyes going down to our hands that were still intertwined.

"You're shaking", he chuckled, noticing my arm moving.

"I'm just...cold", I said.

He pulled away from me and took off his jacket to put it around me. His hands rubbed up and down on my arms and kept them a few inches above my elbows. He stared into my eyes while I did the same. I noticed he was leaning forward so I did the same. Our lips were so close to touching until the front door opened, revealing my father who had his arms crossed over his chest, causing both of us to pull away.

"Dad..eh..I didn't know you were home already", I said, awkwardly laughing.

He kept his arms crossed while he looked at Joshua. He does this every time I come home from a date. This is why I never had my first kiss because he's always scaring them away.

"Uh..I'm Joshua sir, (y/n)'s friend", he said as he lent his hand forward only to have it in the air for a few seconds.

"Friend huh? What are your intentions with my daughter? It better not be for sex", my father said.

"Daddy!", I raised my voice at him, hoping that he wouldn't say anything else.

Joshua's face was flushed and his ears were turning red. I mentally groaned, knowing Joshua wouldn't wanna go out on another date.

"Those aren't my intentions at all sir. I respect your daughter and just met her today at school. I really like her but I'm not the type of person to pressure someone into something they don't like. If she wishes to not continue on improving our friendship, I'll leave her alone. But if one day she wishes to turn our friendship into something more, I will get your permission first to see if you approve of me. I don't want to disrespect your authority on how to raise your daughter", Joshua said as he lightly bowed his head.

My eyes were widened a bit, shocked by the words that came out of his mouth. No one has ever said anything like that to my father. I looked over at my dad and noticed his tense posture loosened a bit and placed his arms on his sides.

"I appreciate that but I think my daughter is too young to be dating or having boyfriends", my dad said.

"But dad-"

"I understand sir", Joshua said.

I looked back at Joshua and noticed he was staring at the floor as he kept a calm and steady voice.

"So you have no problem with my decision about you and my daughter?", my dad asked.

"It's a bit upsetting that I can't find out more about your daughter because she has caught my full interest in her after today and not because I want something consisting of sexual attraction but because she truly is an amazing person. But I have to respect your decision", Joshua said.

"Hmm..the other guys she brought home were not worthy of my daughter's time but after listening to what you said, I'm giving you a chance to be with her. But I do promise you that if you hurt her, I will end up hurting you more. Understood?", my dad said.

"Yes sir. Thank you sir", Joshua smiled and bowed his head again.

I squealed excitedly and hugged my dad, thanking him. I looked back at Joshua and had a feeling of need to kiss him. But then I remembered my father was still there.

"Dad...can you give us a minute?", I asked him.

"No. I already gave you permission to go out with this boy so don't push it. Now go to your room and get ready for bed because you have school tomorrow", my dad said, crossing his arms over his chest again.

I slightly pouted and waved good bye to Joshua which he returned. I passed by my dad and realized he was still standing at the door, looking down at Joshua.

"Shouldn't you be going boy?", my dad said.

"Daddy! Don't be rude", I whined to my dad as I pulled him by the arm.

"Goodnight (y/n). And goodnight sir", Joshua smiled and headed back to his car, driving away.

"Why do you have to be such a dad?", I pouted.

"Because that's what I am. Now go to bed before I change my mind about you dating that boy", he said.

I groaned and headed towards my room. While I laid on my bed, I wondered what Joshua thought of my dad. I kept thinking the worst things until he sent me a text, sending a smile towards my face and fell asleep happy and excited to see him again tomorrow.
