First Year
"Come on Lils, everyone's playing," Marlene McKinnon said.
Lily Evans shook her head violently. "Truth or dare with those boys couldn't possibly end well."
When Lily said 'those boys' she was referring to the marauders, the bane of her existence.
Individually, they were all fine people, with the exception of James Potter, but when put together, the four of them were a nightmare.
The marauders were always pranking someone, planning to prank someone, or celebrating the successful prank they had just played on someone.
Because of that, Lily was a little wary of playing truth or dare with them. Odds are, it was all a set up for some sort of extravagant prank of theirs.
"What, scared to play a little game with us Evans?" James Potter asked, smirking slightly as he did.
Lily Evans stood up from her chair in the Common Room, and walked over to the boy.
"Let me make something clear," she said, standing mere inches away from him. "You don't scare me."
"Well then it's all settled," Sirius Black said, grinning. "You're not scared of us, so there's no reason for you not to play."
Lily admitted defeat, and sat down in their little circle of fellow first years who were waiting to begin the game.
"Just so you know, I'm only doing this because it's closer to the fireplace than my chair," she said.
It was true that this December weather was making her shiver, and they were sitting right next to the fireplace, but that wasn't why she joined the game, and everyone knew it. Lily Evans refused to back down from a challenge from James Potter, which was the reason she managed to get so many detentions in the mere months that she had been in Hogwarts.
James had the same attitude. Anything Lily could do, he has sure he could do better. A day didn't pass when you couldn't see them arguing over something ridiculous.
The two didn't fight over who got better grades, or who was better on the Quidditch pitch. Those were obvious. They bickered about things like who could drink more glasses of pumpkin juice in one sitting, or who could step on Proffesor McGonagall's feet more times without getting in trouble.
It didn't matter how crazy the challenge was. A challenge was a challenge, and Lily Evans never backed down, so she was going to play truth or dare with the boys, despite her intuition telling her to run.
"I'll go first," Marlene announced. "Remus, truth or dare?"
Remus hesitated. "Truth," he said, finally.
"Wimp," Sirius said while pretending to cough, and then laughed.
"If you had to date a Slytherin, who would it be?"
Remus revealed that Nora Zabini was quite attractive in his opinion, and then the game moved on.
It continued for a while, and after Sirius got back from stealing a pair of socks from Dumbledore's office, he turned to Lily.
"Evans, truth or dare?"
"Dare," she said. Lily loved a good dare.
A mischievous grin appeared on Sirius's face, and Lily started to regret picking dare.
Sirius grinned. "I dare you to kiss James."
"What? That's not how this game works! You can't involve someone else when it's not their turn. It's not James's turn, so he doesn't have to kiss me, so this dare doesn't make sense."
"Who said anything about him kissing you? He doesn't have to do anything, but you have to find a way to get your lips on his," Sirius said.
"But-but-," Lily stuttered.
"I suppose we could give you a different dare, but we'd never forget that you backed down."
Lily glared at him. She could understand how he was best friends with Potter. They both knew just how to push her buttons.
"Come here Potter," she muttered.
"Oh no," the boy responded. "I'm quite comfortable where I am. If you want me, come get me."
Lily's face currently matched her flaming red hair, but she ignored that, and walked over to where James was sitting.
She sat down on her knees right in front of him, and gently laid her lips on his.
They stayed like that for about five seconds, neither of them grabbing the other one, or even touching each other with anything other than their lips, until Lily stood up silently, AMD went back to her seat.
The remainder of the marauders wolf whistled, and James glared at them. He was mortified that he had had to kiss his arch enemy, and in front of everyone.
He quickly stood up, walked to the garbage can, and kneeled over, making fake vomiting noises.
Remus chuckled, and turned to Lily. "I'm going to assume that's not the reaction you were hoping to get after your first kiss."
Lily smirked. "Oh how cute, you guys think that was my first kiss. Please, like I'd ever let my first kiss be with Potter."
