part twenty eight

It was an ordinary morning when Rosie decided to check the mail. The sun was shining, birds were chirping, and the boys were scattered around the house, enjoying their usual activities. The dragons, Namjoon and Jungkook, were lounging in the backyard, their scales glinting in the sunlight. Rosie stepped outside to retrieve the mail, enjoying the fresh air and the peacefulness of the morning.

As she approached the mailbox, the mailman pulled up in his truck. Rosie gave him a friendly wave, a smile on her face. The mailman, a middle-aged gentleman with a cheerful demeanor, waved back and approached her with the mail.

"Good morning!" the mailman greeted. "How are you today?"

"Good morning!" Rosie replied, taking the mail from him. "I'm doing well, thank you."

The mailman seemed to linger a bit longer than usual, making small talk as he handed over the mail. Rosie, while polite, was a bit uncomfortable with how close he was standing. She could sense the dragons' presence nearby and hoped they would remain relaxed.

Unfortunately, the dragons had other ideas.

Namjoon, who had been casually lounging near the house, noticed the mailman’s extended conversation with Rosie. His dragon instincts were immediately on high alert. His eyes narrowed, and he let out a low growl. Jungkook, noticing Namjoon's reaction, also tensed up, his protective instincts kicking in.

As the mailman leaned in a bit too close, Namjoon’s growl grew louder, and Jungkook's eyes began to flicker with a dangerous glint. Rosie caught the change in their demeanor and felt a wave of panic wash over her.

“Uh, guys, I think you should—” Rosie began, but it was too late. The dragons were already making their move.

Namjoon, with his imposing dragon form, took a few steps closer, his massive wings unfurling slightly. The air around him crackled with a subtle heat, and he let out a threatening rumble. Jungkook, not to be outdone, began to heat up his breath, small flames flickering at the edges of his mouth.

The mailman, oblivious to the dragons' growing agitation, continued to chat. “So, what’s new with you? I haven’t seen you around much.”

Rosie’s eyes widened as she realized the danger. She quickly stepped between the dragons and the mailman, her hands up in a calming gesture. “Hey, Namjoon, Jungkook, let’s not get too carried away.”

Namjoon’s eyes locked onto the mailman, and he let out a low, rumbling growl. “He’s too close. We don’t like it.”

Jungkook, with flames beginning to dance at the corners of his mouth, added, “Yeah, he’s invading your space. We might need to teach him a lesson.”

Rosie’s heart raced, and she grabbed both dragons by their collars, pulling them back inside the house with all her strength. “No, no! It’s okay, it’s okay! We don’t need to roast the mailman!”

The mailman looked on, confused and a bit alarmed, as Rosie dragged the dragons into the house. “Is everything alright?” he asked, his tone slightly worried.

Rosie, now inside, tried to calm the dragons down. “It’s fine, really. You just need to stay inside for a bit.”

Namjoon’s eyes were still glowing with a hint of heat, but he looked at Rosie with a mix of concern and frustration. “He was too close. We were just protecting you.”

Jungkook, now with his flames under control, looked remorseful. “We didn’t mean to scare him. We just wanted to make sure you were safe.”

Rosie took a deep breath, trying to steady her nerves. “I appreciate the concern, but maybe let’s try not to roast anyone, okay? We can’t scare everyone who comes by.”

Namjoon and Jungkook exchanged sheepish looks, their protective instincts still simmering beneath the surface. “Alright,” Namjoon said with a sigh. “We’ll be more careful.”

Jungkook nodded in agreement. “We just want to make sure you’re safe. We’ll try to control our reactions better.”

After a few moments, Rosie felt the tension ease. She looked out the window to see the mailman giving her a puzzled glance before getting back into his truck. Rosie gave a small wave, apologizing silently for the dragons' behavior.

Once the mailman was gone, Rosie turned back to the dragons, who were now calming down. “You guys really don’t need to go to extremes to protect me. I appreciate the gesture, but let’s keep things a bit more low-key.”

Namjoon nodded, his dragon form beginning to shift back to his human shape. “Understood. We’ll do our best.”

Jungkook, still in his dragon form, gave a final puff of smoke and then followed suit, shifting back to human as well. “Sorry about that. We just got a bit carried away.”

Rosie smiled, feeling a mix of relief and affection for the dragons. “It’s okay. I know you care about me. Just maybe no more fire-breathing near the mailman, alright?”

Namjoon and Jungkook both nodded, their expressions softening. “Got it,” they said in unison.

With the mail situation resolved, Rosie and the dragons went back to their morning routine. Rosie couldn’t help but laugh a little at the whole ordeal, shaking her head at the overprotective instincts of her dragon companions. She knew that their behavior came from a place of love and care, even if it meant the occasional fiery misadventure.

The rest of the day went smoothly, with the dragons keeping their fiery tendencies in check and Rosie appreciating their dedication to her well-being. As she went about her tasks, she felt grateful for their loyalty and knew that, despite the occasional mishap, they were a wonderful and unique part of her life.

Later that night, after dinner, Rosie was relaxing in the living room when Jungkook wandered in with a mischievous glint in his eyes. He was holding a pizza box, his expression a mix of excitement and nervousness.

“Hey, Rosie!” Jungkook called out. “I thought you might like a late-night snack. I made sure to toast the pizza with a bit of my fire.”

Rosie raised an eyebrow, curious. “Toasted with fire? That sounds interesting.”

Jungkook grinned and set the pizza box down on the coffee table. He carefully opened it to reveal a pizza with a slightly charred crust and an extra crispy top. The aroma of melted cheese and baked toppings wafted through the air.

“I thought it would add a unique flavor,” Jungkook said proudly. “Want to give it a try?”

Rosie couldn’t help but giggle at the idea. “Sure, I’m game. Let’s see how it tastes.”

Jungkook handed her a slice of the pizza, which was indeed extra crispy but still surprisingly delicious. Rosie took a bite and smiled, giving Jungkook a thumbs-up. “It’s actually really good! You’ve got a knack for this.”

Jungkook’s face lit up with a mix of pride and relief. “I’m glad you like it! I was worried it might be too burnt.”

As Rosie enjoyed her fire-toasted pizza, Yoongi, who had been lounging nearby, looked over with a curious expression. “What’s this? Fire pizza?”

“Yep,” Rosie said, taking another bite. “Jungkook decided to toast the pizza with his fire.”

Yoongi chuckled, shaking his head. “Only Jungkook would think of that. But it’s nice to see you enjoying it.”

As the evening continued, the boys gathered around, joining Rosie in eating the pizza and sharing laughs. The atmosphere was warm and relaxed, and Rosie felt grateful for the unique and caring family she had come to love.

Later that night, when Rosie was getting ready for bed, she found herself reflecting on the day’s events. Despite the occasional chaotic moment, she felt deeply connected to the boys and appreciated their presence in her life. Their unique personalities and quirks made every day an adventure, and she couldn’t imagine her life without them.

As she drifted off to sleep, she thought about the protective instincts of the dragons, the playful antics of the wolves, and the warm affection of the panther and tiger. With a contented sigh, she closed her eyes, looking forward to the next day and whatever new experiences awaited her.
