Chapter 24
The sun rose over Zhera after a long night. Rephana had been in incomprehensible pain, but she managed to deal with it without much physical response. Hazel brewed her some of the tea she'd had when her third eye emerged, and that quite obviously helped her a lot. The muscles she kept tight in that moment relaxed and she fell asleep almost immediately.
Morning brought about a calmness and an excitement at the same time. Hazel and Anatoly slept in her father's old SuperNova, and Rephana crashed on the couch in the living room. It was the first day of calmness in their lives, the first day they could relax and just enjoy the gift of life in its fullness. That night, Hazel tried to reach her mother, but it must have been day when she slept. It was no matter, she could find another time soon enough. There would have to be some point when their day and night aligned. It happened somewhat often already, so this strange occurrence of them not aligning so well made no real difference.
Hazel stumbled into the living room through the front door, completely exhausted. She hadn't had a moment of normal rest in a long time, and it was both refreshing and slightly disorienting. In the den, Rephana was checking her reflection in a mirror, touching her face and neck in awe. Her skin was still blue and her eyes still golden, but she finally was able to see herself as "normal" in comparison to Hazel and the others.
"You know, I'd really like to just go take a casual trip around the multiverse, to see the place I helped to create, do you get where I'm going with this?" Rephana said, looking at Hazel through the mirror and running her fingers through her silver and black waves.
"That could be fun, as long as we don't get another crazy person against us," Hazel replied jokingly.
Nredoza came out into the kitchen to get herself something to eat, wearing an earth-like sweatshirt and beanie. She listened to their conversation, hoping to find something to jump in on. After the mention of seeing the multiverse, she piped up.
"We could go to the Fourth Universe, where there are so many different humanoid species, it's hard to keep track! And maybe we could go to my home planet and see my family?" she said excitedly.
Hazel nodded in agreement, looking to Rephana for another hopefully positive opinion. She got what she wanted, giving Nredoza a big thumbs up. In light of this, Hazel went back to the SuperNova to wake up Anatoly. What she expected to be an easy process turned out to be quite the chore, seeing as waking up was the last thing he seemed to want to do.
She tried again and again, but he just groaned and turned over with every tap, shake, or shout. Eventually, she just gave up, dragging his lazy self by the arm all the way down the ramp and into the house. Nredoza, who had received the exact same treatment when they were on that desolate planet in the late Seventh Universe, couldn't continue holding in her giggles. She had been dragged from the outskirts of the city to the interior. Hazel may not have looked like much, but her Exan ancestry made her much stronger and more powerful than she appeared.
After some conversing and arguing about how they'd go about their trip, they decided to take what was now Hazel's SuperNova; the Pleiadesian DeLux 14. Hazel could manually drive it just as well as she could work the navigation system based on the layout and the way it was built. It was one of the few ships designed for Ex-Pians specifically, something more simplistic that they could learn to understand just as fast as a young Vasioner with a Lumen HyperNova.
Without hesitation, they gathered together some food and drink, which was mostly for Nredoza, and boarded the luxurious spacecraft. The Fourth Universe was the largest universe in existence, with the most diverse humanoid life. The Seventh had previously been the most diverse, but only had a few native humanoid species.
Hazel, as she had done before, took control of the ship, proudly and more confidently sitting in the pilot's seat. She knew the basics of what she could, and should, do in many different situations and environments. It was the first time in a long while that she really felt at home. That ship had brought her to Zhera, and every centimeter of its insides was coated in a solid layer of memories her father had taken from his time on Earth.
Taking a deep breath and mentally bidding her father's home a temporary farewell, she began the taxi along the desert, building speed until it was safe to lift off the ground. Hazel was alone in the cockpit, taking full control of the ship, uninterrupted. Meanwhile, in the cabin, Rephana, Nredoza, and Anatoly were telling stories, playing three-way chess with the hologram projector, and overall having a good time. Through the different things they were doing, all four found entertainment and happiness. They weren't there on some sort of mission, to try to save a multiverse from a collapsing mess, or anything serious. Their only goal was to make memories together and perhaps attempt to reunite Nredoza with her family. Dymo and his wife would be safely put away from the sedative and the shackles, so that wasn't an issue to dwell on.
As they broke through the atmosphere, Hazel put the barrier of the Fourth Universe into the navigation system.
"There are approximately seventy-three hours until your destination is reached. Enjoy your flight on the Pleiadesian DeLux 14. In addition, there are only about eighty-one hours of travel remaining until the fuel tank is empty. Please consider refueling as soon as possible," the computer spoke.
"Hey, Nredoza, what's the information on your family's planet and town?" Hazel asked, exiting the cockpit.
"Oh, sorry about that. It's the city of Retansha, on the planet Kotimyad, Pia Galaxy, in the Qinasan Supercluster," she said dully, thinking deep into her memories.
Hazel mumbled the information to herself, counting off the words on her fingers. She gave Nredoza a thumbs up and returned to the cockpit to override the current destination.
"Target overridden. There are approximately seventy-eight hours until your destination is reached..."
Once again, Hazel returned to the cabin, joining in on their conversations excitedly. There was so much to talk about without the fear of being killed, caught, or destroyed. The ship was now going at a few Axelisto, so there was no worry about colliding with other stars, ships, or planets. Hazel, noticing that she had somehow left the hologram projector in the SuperNova, smiled widely. She missed it on Vasion, even though she had only been away for a couple days at most. Holding it in her hands, she slowly made her way to one of the backmost chaise lounges. She took a closer look at all of the details and tried to understand how it might work.
As she called up the hologram, she noticed a bluish haze from the interior, letting itself out from the almost microscopic design carved into its outer layer. Hazel grabbed her Halo from above her head, comparing the hues. To Hazel's dismay, they were different. Thinking about it more, she realized that this would be the only logical conclusion. Nredoza was able to use it, and she was not Exan at all. She couldn't operate a Halo or even spark the tiniest amount of change in the Halo sphere.
The only thing she could come up with was that it was much like the Halos, a mystery from Vasion itself. Vasion... Hazel gasped. She could just ask Rephana, seeing as she was directly from Vasion.
"How on earth does this thing function?" Hazel asked, tossing it to Rephana.
She leaned to the side to catch it, but didn't move her arms at all. Her pale blue face blushed bright purple in embarassment. Rephana was used to doing most things with her other pairs of arms since she used to have eyes on the arms that were left. She held the hologram projector, which glowed again at her touch.
"I designed these myself, you know. Something for the inhabitants. Aphos wasn't happy with it, but I told him that if he loved me he would let me do something for his descendants. That made him let me send them out on HyperNovas. There are quintillions of these throughout the multiverse. They're quite simple, really," she rambled, "it's just an artificial intelligence program on a small circuit board that's powered by Halonium, the liquid that's found in Halo spheres."
"Halonium?"
"One of the many elements that you Firsters don't have. It's an almost infinite power source and is found in the cores of most planets in the Fifth and Sixth Universe."
"There's so much I don't understand here..."
Nredoza grimaced, and cut in, "You've only been here for a little more than a week! Do you expect to know everything?"
Hazel rolled her eyes at Nredoza and began to annoyedly cuss her out under her breath, not nearly loud enough for Oza to hear. She knew the answer was no, but didn't want to admit it. Snatching the hologram projector out of Rephana's hands, she stormed back to the cockpit and slamming the door behind her. Hazel told the computer to play some calming music in the cockpit, and it instantly obeyed her command. She leaned back as it started, already ready for the trip to end.
Again fiddling with her hologram, Hazel brought up a table of all of the elements. Multiple tables displayed themselves. There were more kinds of quarks to make different particles. It wasn't antimatter, obviously, but it was some other kind of substance. The "protons," or as their equivalent was called, Hedrantons, were surrounded by netral quarks. Those hedrantons were not charged, which made sense. However, on the list with hedrantons, halonium was not found. There was a Vasion's antimatter list as well, which involved halonium. The antimatter list was incredibly small, likely because they were unstable in a world that was all built up with positively or neutrally charged nuclei.
Halonium, made up of one Vasiotron and one V-positron. Can change color based on the DNA of the Exan or Vasioner that touches it. Found in the cores of many planets in the Fifth and Sixth Universes.
Vasionum, made up of two Vasiotrons and two V-positrons. Highly radioactive with an extremely short half-life of only a few minutes. However, it does not have such a short half-life when it is in the environment of a Vasioner's body. Only found inside the blood of Vasioners. When exposed to anything that is not their bodies, it forms golden threads.
Elsnibalt, made up of six Vasiotrons and six V-positrons. Used in many engines and reacts extremely with any element with a proton nucleus. Breaks the laws of physics entirely. The most important discovery of any time. Found in the mantles of some planets (excluding those in the First) and in supermassive stars.
Quinum, made up of forty Vasiotrons and V-positrons. It makes Exans be able to hold onto their abilities with concrete solidity. Similar to Vasionium, it has a very short half life and only is stable in Exans. Only naturally found in Exans. When exposed to anything not in their bodies, it forms black threads. These threads only form during a transfer of power from a Vasioner to an Exan and vice versa.
Ununquadium, made up of one hundred and fourteen Vasiotrons and V-positrons. Discovered by Randall "Ununquadius" Farnehln in the year 10224, it is crucial to the heightened reactivity of elsnibalt. It is found in the cores of black holes. Ununquadium takes the title of most dangerous to mine, since the ship cannot stop moving and must always move at a higher speed than light, otherwise it will be stuck in its depths. It will be crushed within minutes if it is going slower than a half Axelisto. If the ship is going past an Axelisto, it is unable to be mined.
Kilogen, made up of one thousand Vasiotrons and one thousand V-positrons. It is one of the most unstable gaseous elements and can destroy matter itself. It has only been discovered in the year 10478 and can be found in the "lightning" in the storms of the multiverse's barrier.
Hazel read over the descriptions of the six antimatter elements of Vasion over and over again. She couldn't believe how complex everything was outside of Earth. It was the one reason why she would want to return to the First Universe to live. Though she felt very confused by everything going on and all of the information she just had forced down her throat, she knew that in the end it would all improve and it would help her in the long run.
For the time being, the best thing she could do for herself would be to put her head down and her worries beside her and watch the galaxies fly by in their heavenly display of light and color.
