prologue: play a game with me
"Choi Youngjae!" Youngjae heard a familiar voice call out. A familiar yet annoying voice. The brunette turned around to find Jaebum, the annoying guy in his class running up to him. Youngjae knew he was a nice person, but he knew about Jaebum's crush on him. It was unfortunate but his feelings were unrequited and because of this, Jaebum was determined to make Youngjae fall in love with him, however it only annoyed him.
Youngjae plastered a fake smile and looked up at the slightly taller male. "What do you want Jaebum?" Youngjae asked, cutting to the chase.
"Play a game with me." Jaebum stared him in the eye.
"What? Why?" Youngjae raised his eyebrow quizzically.
"Let's play a game. Whoever wins gets a wish granted from the other." Youngjae frowned at the answer.
"What game is it?" He inquired.
"You'll see what it is when you agree." Youngjae thought about the proposition. If he lost what could he lose? There wasn't much he could give Jaebum if he lost and if he asked for something obscene, well Youngjae hoped he was above that. But if he won, he'd be able to tell Jaebum to quit annoying him.
"Fine. Tell me about the games then." Youngjae agreed which caused a smile to curl onto Jaebum's lips.
"We'll play three rounds. The one who wins two of the three rounds wins." Jaebum explained, taking Youngjae's hand and pulling him along behind him. Youngjae frowned at the intertwined hands, but followed Jaebum regardless.
"The first round, is a game of Chess." Jaebum announced as they stood in front of the library. Youngjae felt happy they would play Chess. He felt like he might win the game.
They sat down at the chess table at the back of the library. Youngjae started as he would be playing with the white pieces. The game lasted three quarters of an hour, but Youngjae finally caught Jaebum's King in checkmate.
Youngjae smirked as he won the first round. Jaebum returned a tongue in cheek smile as though he expected that he'd lose himself.
Jaebum quickly fixed the Chess pieces back into their original positions and they left the library, Youngjae following Jaebum again. They soon arrived at the back of the school where one of Jaebum's friends, Jinyoung, was hanging out.
Jinyoung shot Youngjae a smile as he passed Jaebum a small black rectangle, but Youngjae's view was at an obscure angle.
"Here." Jaebum passed it to Youngjae. Youngjae took the black parcel and held it carefully in his hands.
"What is this?" He asked. Jaebum smiled and flipped the lid open, turning it on.
"It's a Nintendo DS, silly." Youngjae's mouth made an 'o' shape as he followed Jaebum's instructions. Youngjae thoroughly enjoyed video games, however he didn't have much experience with Nintendo. Once Jaebum showed him, he pressed the 'A' Button to select the game inside and soon a game loading screen appeared. Mario Kart.
"The second round is a game of Mario Kart?" Youngjae questioned and Jaebum nodded. They set it up so they could play versus each other.
Youngjae chose Toad because he was cute and small, but Jaebum chose what appeared to Youngjae as a green dinosaur.
"Are you playing with a green Barney?" Youngjae questioned, to which Jaebum took offense.
"Yoshi is not a green Barney." Jaebum glared.
"Yoshi is a dinosaur from your imagination." Youngjae sang his own parody.
"I swear Youngjae-" however Jaebum was cut off by the 'turtle in the cloud' telling them to go. The game didn't last long, Youngjae kept getting fixed by the turtle in a cloud and in the time of him bumping into walls, Jaebum had finished in first place.
"Okay you've won with your green barney-"
"Yoshi." He heard Jaebum mumble.
"So what's the final round?" Youngjae finished.
Jaebum's sour expression turned into a smile.
"Rock, paper, scissors!" He announced.
"So in other words luck?" Youngjae raised an eyebrow to which Jaebum shrugged.
"It's fair."
They stood opposite each other and held their fists in their hands before saying in unison,
"Rock."
"Paper."
"Scissors." And they both held out their hands in their desired positions.
Youngjae looked at their hands and felt his heart sink. Paper beats rock. Jaebum won. Youngjae watched as a smile broke onto Jaebum's face.
"Okay so what is your wish?" Youngjae asked him and Jaebum looked to the sky, appearing deep in thought and tapping his chin. Youngjae grew impatient.
"Jaebum, you must have had a wish before you made up this game otherwise you wouldn't have done it." Youngjae interrupted his thoughts. But Jaebum smiled cheekily.
"You know me so well. Okay then it's really simple," Jaebum explained, Youngjae was invested in what he had to say, "Give me seven days to make you fall in love with me."
Youngjae looked at him puzzled, taken aback.
"You just want seven days to annoy me? What's new about that?"
Jaebum shook his head, "No, for these seven days you can't complain or avoid me. If I want to take you somewhere or be with you, you can't say no. If you don't like me by the end of the seven days, I won't annoy you ever again."
Youngjae thought about it although he didn't have much choice since he lost. He would have to put up with Jaebum for a week and then he'd never annoy him again? It sounded too good to be true.
"That's it?"
"That's it."
"Nothing weird?"
"Nothing weird.
"Nothing obscene?"
"Nothing obscene. Are you done now?" Jaebum questioned. Youngjae nodded in response.
"Great, see you tomorrow morning." Jaebum smiled and left.
Youngjae was still satisfied even though he lost. He would still get rid of Jaebum. All he'd have to do is last seven days, how hard could that be?
