Tracking
Play it cool, relax. Calm down and think.
I try to steady my nerves, but the monitor attached to me devices my feelings. The nurse looks at it in worry, then back to me. It was beeping rapidly, showing my heart rate increasing. She places her hand on my arm, and tries to comfort me. "Everything will be fine. I'm sure they are okay. Try to calm do-"
"I-I don't l-live in J-Jasper, ma'am."
Her eyes widen, and she tilts her head. "Where do you live, sweetheart?"
I think quickly, however what comes out ends up the truth. "I-I live in T-Texas, Nurse June."
Her eyes widen, and she squeezes my arm. "I am sorry, sweetie. I will see what I can do to get you home soon." She gives me a soft smile before leaving the room. I watch her leave, then gaze at the table next to me. I spot my phone and I slightly reach for it. Grunts escape me, and I release a victorious sigh when my hand wraps around it.
Laying back against the bed, I place my finger against the back button and smirk as the screen comes to life. A few cracks liter its once perfect screen, but otherwise it was fully functional. I take a deep breath, and shutter in pain as my ribs ache. Multiple texts were waiting for me to answer, and I growl.
Most were from my mother, a few from my father, brother, and many of them from my friends.
All dating back to nearly three days ago.
I can hear the heart monitor pick up speed again, and I desperately try to steady my breathing. I open the first one, from my mother, and read them all. She was worried, and truth be told, even that was an understatement. The last one confirms my suspicions.
:Honey, I got with the police, and they said you were found in Jasper, Nevada! We are on our way there now. Please tell me you are okay. I just want to know you are okay.:
I try to steady myself again, wiping away a few tears before huffing in pain. The text was sent four hours ago, and if they took a plane, that would mean they would be here soon. I quickly read through the other texts, then I close my messaging and switch over to another app. It looked similar to a compass, however that was simply a ruse I created to cover a tracker app I was creating.
I press my thumb on it, and it opens up a log for the past week. I tap on Tuesday, the day, according to my messages, that the.... well, the explosions happened.
College,
Dillon,
Explosions
Red Optics
Shifting jets
Bulkhead-
I nearly drop my phone, and my other hand flies to my head. Pain radiates from the wound, and I try not to cry out. It hurt so bad, but I will myself to focus. However, I hear the door creak open, and quickly I press the button on my phone to lock it, then I drop it.
Arm wrap around me, and I cry into the shoulder of the person holding me. Her hair was brushing against my face, and I hold back a pained shout as another pair of arms snake around me. The whiskers of his mustache tickle my cheek.
"(Y/N), we're here. It's okay, now. We're here, everything's fine. You're going to be okay." The soft motherly tone eases my nerves, and the warmth from my father's arms soothes my body.
I would figure out this craziness, but for now...
I was going to rest and heal with my family.
---------------------
*Three months later*
After I was discharged from the hospital, I was stuck at home for another month with a mother that wouldn't stop worrying about me. It was always "(Y/N), do you need this?" or "(Y/N), are you hungry?". I didn't mind, at first, but when she continued to neglect her job, I told her I was fine and she needed to start going back to work.
It took a week of convincing from myself and my father before she finally went to work. I was still stuck at home until the school was reopened after the 'gas explosion'. It had destroyed multiple buildings and 90% of parking lots. They had a very convincing story, however...
Anyone with half a brain knows a gas explosion on one end of a college campus would not effect nearly every building.
And anyone with at least three-fourths of a brain know how to look up schematics of the college to see there were no gas pipes near the explosion site.
However, using my entire knowledge, I also used the tracker on my phone to show my movement on that day. The first day I was home alone, I plugged my cell into my laptop and got to work. I decoded each set of coordinates the tracker received every five minutes and learned something astounding.
At exactly 2:55 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon...
I seemingly vanished...
Then re-appeared in Jasper Nevada at 3:35 p.m. that same night.
I have been trying to figure out where I seemed to disappear to, but the first coordinate that my phone was able to receive from the satellite was in the small town of Jasper, on a road that lead out of the city. It was just outside the city limits, and seemingly in the middle of the road, in the middle of nowhere.
I try not the think about it too much, as it makes my head throb in pain. I haven't passed out from it, yet, however it has caused me to stumble and fall. This amnesia is brutal and refuses to let me even try to remember. The only way, so far, I have remembered anything is through my dreams.
When I wake up after these 'visions', I journal them quickly because, a short time later, I can't even recall a single detail. Even with my notes, all I can remember is something large and green shadowing me, jets firing at it, and a large swirling mass.
Currently, I am sitting on my couch, computer on my lap and feet up on the coffee table, staring at the data on my screen for the umpteenth time. Something just wasn't adding up, and there was only one way for me to find out. Lowering my feet, I remove the computer from my lap and place it on the coffee table. Swiftly, I unplug it and begin to pack it into my large, hunting-grade camo backpack, the only one that can hold all of my college textbooks and not rip.
I shove my phone charger, mouse, mouse pad and other essentials into the pack, making sure my school work was there as well so, when I take a break, I can work on it. Once that is done, I make my way over to my room. I waste no time in packing a small suitcase with clothes for a two day trip, adding an extra set of everything in case something goes wrong.
Last, I pack food for the drive. I don't want to stop and buy food unless I have to. Also, if I get stranded, I don't want to starve to death.
After all, Nevada has a lot of deserts.
I have been planning this drive for a while. It was easy to get my parents to allow me to go, especially when I said it was 'to personally thank the nurse that saved my life'. It was eight o'clock in the morning, and I needed to leave soon if I wanted to make to my first stop before midnight. First stop is a hotel I booked a room at in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I wasn't about to drive twenty-seven hours non-stop, and my mother wouldn't allow me to go if I wanted to anyways.
I quickly pack up everything I have prepped into my royal blue 2018 Toyota Camry Hybrid, courtesy of the fools that think I believed their 'gas explosion' destroyed my 2016 Hybrid.
I may not remember the truth...
But you can be damn sure I won't sit on my hands when I know the first place to look.
I slide into the passenger seat and press the brake down. Pushing the 'start' button, I smirk as the car quietly rumbles to life. My name pops up on the dash, and the AI I have been working on softly echoes in the speakers, "Welcome back, (Y/N)." Her voice was hushed, as it was still quite early. "Where would you like to go today?"
I whip out my phone and plug it into the port below the radio. "I wish to get to this hotel without any tolls or construction, if at all possible." As it calculates, I slowly begin to drive out of the driveway and onto the road. The radio screen fizzles away, then a map appears. A blue line snakes across the states, indicating the best route. "This is the best route, housing only one construction site. Would you like me to place all known coffee shops and barbecue joints on the route as well, miss (Y/N)?"
I stifle a laugh as I turn onto the highway. "You know me too well, Nebula." Multiple icons appear on the map, showing the detours to each. I tap the nearest one, a familiar green icon with a woman on it. Nebula charts the course, and I relax a bit. The school was still closed for another two weeks, giving me plenty of time. However...
I couldn't shake the feeling that something or someone was following me.....
