Focusing
"Alright, so you're telling me that.... Starscream.... was searching out an energon deposit that was located directly under my college, however digging it up would cause the land to cave in and completely destroy the facility and kill anyone on site..... And you were trying to stop him?" I gaze up at the group before me, my eyes locking optics with Bulkhead, who nods sheepishly. "Y-Yeah. Sorry about getting you all caught up in this... I didn't know you were there!"
I smile. That had been the point.... I think. I feel my headache slightly throb, but it was nothing compared to my leg pain. It had began to ebb, but due to the lack of proper... 'human' medicine, I had to deal with the pain for now. It seems after the first incident with me, Ratchet took it upon himself to learn more about human anatomy. The numbing cream wore off a while ago, but I was too focused on these.... cybertronians, right?.... to care about that. Nearly everyone I know would love to be in my shoes right now, living out what seems to be an amazing television show, and yet it was me...
All because I was worried about Dillon's backpack.
A small smile forms on my lips, and I gaze up as I feel someone looking at me. Ratchet was watching me from his station, a side glance and nothing more. When I meet his optics, he turns away with a huff. "I still advise you allowing me to contact Agent Fowler for proper medical supplies.... and expertise." He adds the last part on as I start to protest, and I grumble, knowing he was right. "(Y/N)," I hear above me, and I gaze up as my sitting area shifts. Optimus, who was still holding me, speaks with the very slightest amount of concern. "As much as we have tried to learn about your species while living here on your planet, Agent Fowler is your only option for a full recovery."
I huff but nod my head. "Alright, but I'm not going anywhere. Not yet, at least." My gaze turns back up, a pleading look in my eyes. "Please?" Optimus nods his head, and I let out a sigh. I hear Ratchet begin typing on his alien console before a very loud beeping rings out. "Agent Fowler? We need your immediate assistance." He had urgency in his tone, maybe to make this 'Fowler' guy move faster, as I felt fine after Ratchet stitched me up and applied a wrap he found in an old locker. However, I hear something click, then Ratchet speaks up. "He's on his way now, thirty minutes out."
As everyone grows quiet once more, I allow my gaze to wander around. Spotting a large hole in the wall, with some sort of coiling inside of it, I find a way to break the silence. "Is that a portal of some sort?" I ask, pointing my hand at it. I feel Optimus Prime shift to look towards it, and he nods as I gaze up at him. "It is a ground bridge that allows us to travel anywhere on this planet in a matter of moments." I gaze back down at the ground bridge, then over to Ratchet. Millions of questions flew through my mind, and I turn my eyes upward once more to Optimus. He wasn't looking at me anymore, so I tap on the palm of his servo lightly. This makes him look towards me again, and I gesture to the platform near Ratchet.
"My other leg is going numb from sitting so long..... I won't put much pressure on my left leg, I promise." I add the last part as I see his optics start to form some sort of protest, which ends up leading to him nodding his head. Carefully, he walks over and lowers his hands at an angle, allowing me to slightly slide forward and grab a hold of the railing. Gently, I hoist myself up and slightly stagger until I gain my footing. I lower my left leg down slightly, hissing as the pain returns and makes me regret this decision. I shake it off and wave towards Optimus Prime, who was watching me carefully. "I'm fine, just sore." My gaze turns to Ratchet, and I gaze at his screens.
However, I couldn't understand a thing.
It was all written in what I believed to be their language, but it spiked my curiosity. Not only that, but I wished to know more about the ground bridge, and I wanted to know more about these creatures that saved my life, and my friends. "Ratchet?" I ask cautiously, earning a huff and side glance. "Yes?" He barely pauses in his typing, so I continue. "How does your ground bridge work?" He seems to hold in an exasperated sigh, then turns to face me. "It is a scaled down form of space bridge technology, powered by energon and allowing us to travel anywhere on this planet, and this planet alone." He gazes at me, as if waiting for me to say something. I scratch my chin and think, remembering something from one of my theorized science classes.
However, I apparently took too long, as he turns back to his computers. I still decided to respond anyways. "So, it's like a "short-cut" through the extradimensional realm of transwarp space, like a warp bubble in Star Trek?" His helm snaps towards me so fast, I swear I heard some sort of gear pop in his neck. His wide optics display his shock, but he shakes it off and sputters out, "W-Well, I don't know about the last part, but yes. It creates a doorway through transwarp space and allows access to any area within the gravitational pull of the planet holding it steady." I nod my head, and gaze towards the portal area, noticing the other robots- Autobots if I remember correctly- had mostly left. Bumblebee was now speaking to Optimus about something, and I was doing my best not to listen. Eavesdropping is rude, you know.
"So, to have a space bridge, you would need some sort of device that would create a false gravitational pull on the other end of the portal to keep it open while in space? Or to keep it steady when travelling long distances?" Ratchet's expression of shock quickly turns into that of interest. "Yes! The calibrations have to be astronomically precise, or a meltdown will occur, snapping the bridge in half and possible causing a massive explosion on each end." I quickly snap back, a smile on my face. "It would have to be pretty large, so it will have the capability to change it's pull depending on the length you would travel...." I shake my head, causing the medic to tilt his in confusion. "I don't think we have anything that could even begin to create something like that. There's an experimental piece of equipment the government has been attempting to create for better space travel, but it's fairly new and unfinished...."
I raise my gaze to see Ratchet suddenly holding somewhat of a knowing, and grateful, expression. "I already knew of the fusion drive, but your willingness to try and help is greatly appreciated." I smile back, and nod my head. "Well, you guys saved myself and my friends, so it's the least I could do." An alert suddenly begins to sound off, and I cringe at the noise. My headache returns and I barely hear them say that Agent guy's name before the elevator in front of Ratchet opens up. At first, the man walks slowly until my eyes meet his. Then, his pace quickens and he walks over to me. "Just what is she doing here?" He asks, gazing up at Ratchet just as he gets directly in front of me.
The medic goes to answer, but I hold up a hand. "Agent Fowler, correct?" Is all I say, until he turns to me. "Special Agent William Fowler, (Y/N) (L/N)." I stand straighter, despite the wound on my leg giving me trouble. "Well, for one, I am here because someone tried to serve me a load of crap after I was released from the hospital, that anyone with half a brain could see through." He starts to speak, and I raise a hand to him. "I'm not finished. Secondly, I'm here because I wanted to thank those that saved my life during the attack on my college. Also, I mean no disrespect when I say this, sir, but after you completely vanished from my life after bringing me to the hospital here in Jasper, I think the last person who should have such an accusatory tone here is you."
I can feel the tension in the air as I finish and cross my arms. I lean back against the rail behind me, trying desperately to hide my pain from my leg. He seems to notice this and glances down. His face grows grim again, and he walks over to me carefully. "And yet every time you seem to be here, you are wounded in one way or another." His face, stern and authoritative, suddenly changes slightly. It becomes concerned as he offers an arm out to slip around under my shoulders. I accept it and lean forward off the railing. "I'm only here because I wanted the truth. I could care less about the minor injuries sustained." I hiss as we walk forward, slightly putting more pressure on my leg. "I've had worse.... You know that already."
He only grunts as we slowly make it to the lift. A voice speaks up from behind us, well buzzing and whirs to be exact. I quickly translate as Agent Fowler gazes behind him slightly in confusion. "He wants to know that you will actually keep them in touch this time." His eyes widen, and I make that 'explain later' face, which he nods to. "I will, you have my word." Silence follows, and we continue into the lift. As we turn to face the entrance, I spot Optimus, Ratchet and Bumblebee gazing at me with concern, and I smile. I give them a small wave as the doors shut, and I see Bumblebee do the same.
As the lift begins to rise, we are quiet for a while. However, I couldn't take it anymore. "Agent Fowler?" I lift my gaze up, and he only moves his eyes towards me. "How long?" I was hoping I wouldn't have to add more to it, and I mentally sigh as he huffs. "Too long.... a few years, give or take." His face scrunches up. "I just wish it would have been some other planet they landed on. Bot sitting isn't exactly the job I signed up for...." I hold back a retort as the lift stops, making me hiss in pain. I feel his gaze fall on me again. I don't meet his eyes, for fear of them rolling on their own. He held up this stern exterior to hide the fact he was simply tired of this war and worried about his own planet.
I huff as we begin to move towards a chopper, military grade and very nice. He helps me up into it, and I strap myself in the passenger side. He gets in the driver's side, and the engine roars to life soon after. Before I know it, we are in the air, flying away from the massive building that hid their base. "Agent Fowler?" I ask again, but I get no response this time. However, I decide to ask anyways. "I don't see you as the type of person to just up and leave someone that's hurting at a hospital.... especially if I was sick." His face softens again, and his eyes dart over to me before returning to the skies before us.
"Listen, (Y/N), I.... I brought you to our emergency care center at the military base here in Jasper. After they got you stabilized, I had you transferred to the Jasper Hospital in case the fever and concussion caused amnesia, allowing us to use our cover story completely and.... keep you in the dark about the Autobots." I nod my head in understanding. "Standard military procedure to keep anyone except the government in the dark of immediate threats to our world as to not cause mass panic?" Agent Fowler nods, his face still set before him and not a lick of surprise. It's expected, as probably knew more about me and I knew of myself. However, I make one statement that makes him slightly glare at me through his peripheral vision.
"When I'm fixed up, you will take me back there."

Sass queen ain't dealing with Fowler right now. Anyways, I feel more motivated for this story, so it may get a few more updates. However, life just got even more busy, so just prepare for a few months of me off the grid. Sorry guys!
As always,
