(An idea based on the MANY death flags raised by Amaya in episode four of season five brought up by someone in Discord (I am so sorry Amaya, I love you)

Amaya knew there wasn't any hope left for her, as she pushed Callum and Rayla into the book drop to protect them from the shadowbeasts. She knew she made the right choice as she closed the hatch.

The beasts circled her as she dispatched each one after the other, but that was until her hand holding her sword felt like worms were squirming up it. The woman looked at her hand and noticed a small scratch on the surface. She felt tears threatening to fall, but she kept fighting for her family for Janai. Janai, her heart hurt that she wouldn't be able to marry the love of her life, the one who made her feel whole for the first time in years.

She fought off the corruption for a while, but as the sun finally rose again, she lost the battle. She dragged herself into the furthest corner of the library before the corruption took complete control of her.

She felt a presence sitting next to her as she finally succumbed. It was warm, comforting, and strong, and it waited for her with open arms.

As Callum and Rayla got out of the bookdrop in the morning, they looked for Amaya. What they found was a husk of the general's former self. Her once kind and pure heart is now vile and cruel. Callum's heart shattered into multiple pieces as he saw his aunt draw her sword and charge toward them with a growl. The teens dodged out of the way. They ran to the entrance of the library

"We have to help her." Callum said as they left the library. Rayla held Callum by his shoulders, making sure he was looking at her. "No, she's too far gone, Callum. She tried to kill us." Callum knew Rayla was right. The blood-red glow of his aunt's eyes and the animalistic growl burned themselves into his mind.

Guilt ate at Callum's heart. He risked what was left of his family so he could save the world. And now that guilt will eat at him for eternity.
