Writing Fluff
Fluff is actually more complicated than you may think.
While it seems easy to input into your stories, it's hard to write it without having it be cringe or seem out of place.
I'll dive into how I write fluff differently for royal and high school AU's, but first the two go hand in hand in something I like to call the Puppy-Love Daydreams.
Puppy-Love Daydreams is basically those short little crushes you get on someone. You know it probably will never happen but you like to imagine a little scenario whenever you see them or they smile at you.
We just can't help but let our mind wander with daydreams. The reason why this is called puppy-love though is because it's just a small crush, something we know would probably go nowhere but like to imagine.
Understanding this feeling is important when writing fluff so then you don't make it too cringe.
Fluff is mostly light conversation, maybe some flirts, and in a comfortable environment with not too much tension.
Here's an example from my story My Love Deep Down:
Sidon unwrapped it carefully and he gasped as he saw a little crochet shark plushie.
"Awww! It's like a little dumpling!" He chuckled and kissed it gently before setting it down on his Blahaj's head.
When Link arrived, he showed him the little shark.
Link chuckled, "Glad you like them."
"It's very cute, thank you."
"Have you named it?" Link asked, tilting his head.
Sidon hummed.
"How about...Omelet?"
"Omelet?" Link giggled and Sidon smiles.
"I think it's fitting."
"How?"
"...yes." Sidon smirked and Link rolled his eyes, laughing.

We see the light conversation with some jokes between the two characters and it's not too cringy.
Fluff in high school AU's tend to be date scenes and coming up with different dates is very complicated. If you'd like some ideas for dates I would suggest looking it up or checking out my old one-shot book from 2023. [please note you do not have to credit me if you use an idea, it would be the same as me trying to make everyone believe I was the first to write a Flower Husbands cafe story]
There's quite a few stemming from a picnic to go-karting, so take your pick!
Writing fluff for a royal AU, however, is a bit more complicated.
Not only do these have a bit more detail and lore, but they also tend to have the same fluff each time.
I, actually, don't mind this fact.
Personally, I love starting a royal AU and knowing that I'm going to have that ballroom scene, or having the love letter scene, or Romeo & Juliet styled enemies to lovers.
Of course, I'm sure there are way more ways to write fluff in a royal story, but I appreciate the simplicity yet complexity of a ballroom dance.
While the idea is simple, the way to get there can be tricky, and if done well then that's a round of applause from me.
