Coming up with names for characters is pretty tricky especially cause you may want something really interesting and different.

Most of my OC's have pretty basic names. There's Adam, Sarah, James, Liam, Noah, and then there's just Celeste randomly.

And this either happens with me staring off into space for a long time or me on those random name generator websites clicking until I find something I like.

With a lot of my characters, though (especially side characters) I just steal someone's name.

I've used my dad's name, my teacher's name, my cousin's name, heck I think I even used my own name in there once.

And of course, if a name doesn't feel right you can always change it later on.

It all just depends on what you're going for.

I don't know if this is an everyone thing but ever since I was little and had my stuffed animals, I always felt like there was a specific name for them that just...fit them.

Like I had a cheetah blanket and I named it Daniel but kept calling it Jasper because I realized I just liked that name more and it looked like it would be more of a Jasper than a Daniel.

You could also make nicknames too if you'd like.

The nicknames don't necessarily have to make sense, like my sister calls me June and everyone thinks it's cause it means my birthday's in June but no it's just a cuter way of saying Jr.

I've had people call me what my name means in Russian, I've had people call me sushi, or just a shorter version of what my name is.

It's just a matter of the right feel, in my opinion, and whether or not you think it fits the character.

And know that there is never any wrong answer.

I think having a name after someone you know could go really far, but it's up to you.

I have the teacher in Memories With You be Mr. Raymond and he's based off of my dad who used to teach at a community college.

Coach Hanlon is based off of my 8th grade English teacher, and another character, named The Old Goat, is based off of my uncle.

But if you're ever feeling stuck on naming a pretty big character, I would say random name generator. And if people get on your case well that's their problem.

I had my friend say the thought I was writing down every name in the Bible once cause I chose the whitest names known to man and I thought about changing them before deciding not to.

I like their names, I like the characters; if they got a problem with it then they don't have to read the stories with them.
