Scribble: A World They Don't Know
Sarah's Perspective-
Sarah sighed as she stared at the Word document, her eyes trailing through their story so far.
She grumbled, having no inspiration to write anything. Their story was on pause right now but she still wanted to get ahead of it.
She looked over at James, who was drawing in his sketchbook.
"You okay?" James asked, looking up.
"Yeah, just tired." Sarah shut her laptop.
She took out her phone, trying to find where Venus was.
"Does V have a club today?" Sarah asked.
"Ohhh, yeah I think she does." James said and Sarah nodded.
Sarah opened up Webtoons and her eyes widened as she saw their story on the front page.
"What? What's wrong?" James asked, concerned at why Sarah looked so shocked.
Sarah showed James her phone and he gasped.
"No way!!" He smiled and Sarah pumped up her fist, excited for their achievement.
She took a screenshot and sent it to Venus, knowing she'd be really happy.
"This is great! I can't wait to tell Noah." James smiled and Sarah giggled before her smile faded.
"You okay?" James asked, noticing how Sarah's smile faltered.
"Are you gonna...tell your parents?" Sarah asked, looking up at him.
James hesitated and he looked down.
"I- I mean...I don't normally."
"How come?"
James shrugged.
"They know about Webtoons but they don't bother asking about it. Liam does but my parents don't care. I think if they heard I'm on Tumblr they'd freak because their minds go to the bad stuff immediately. And they'd probably kill me if they heard about Noah..."
Sarah frowned and James sighed.
"But that's just how it is I guess."
Sarah hummed and James put a hand on her shoulder.
"What about you?" He asked.
"My parents know about us working on a comic but they've never asked more about it. And they never knew I posted stuff on ao3. I mean, it wasn't that popular or good anyway..."
"But it's still an achievement, you know?"
"Yeah..." Sarah sighed and ran her hands through her hair, starting to braid it and fidget.
"Don't you get mad?" Sarah asked.
"Mad?"
"Mad that you can't tell them?" Her voice was shaking in fear.
James took a deep breath.
"I mean...yeah of course I am. I had my first call with my boyfriend last weekend and I don't know when I can do that again because of my parents."
"I just wish I could tell them this without them freaking out."
James chuckled.
"Tell me about it." he sighed. "It's kinda like a ticking time bomb. You have no idea when it'll set off, what wires to cut and which ones you shouldn't mess with. And it's only a matter of time before it blows up and by then, will you be too late?"
"And it's just gonna be worse if they find out on their own..."
"Exactly."
James wrapped an arm around his friend and Sarah smiled.
"But you know, you still got me and V to share these achievements with." James said.
Sarah smiled, "Yeah...that's true."
"Try not to worry too much about it. I'm sure when the time is right you're gonna wanna tell them."
"When will you do it?" Sarah asked.
"I...don't know." James whispered.
"The other night I was about to. I looked up at my dad and it was right there. I was going to tell him how many followers I have, how many people seem to like my art, maybe even about Noah but......I froze." James sighed.
"I felt so stupid. I want them to know so I don't have to keep tip toeing around them. I want them to know so we can celebrate these things together. I want them to know so I don't have to always hide Noah. But..." He took a deep breath, tears forming in his eyes.
"But it just feels like it'll be easier to hide it all." Sarah finished and James nodded.
"Yeah...exactly."
