Chapter 10

Neji threw his palms towards the chakra points in Akane's body but just like the countless times before she dodged them all with impossible speed. Then she threw her counter attack. She launched herself up in the air and began to do hand signs so quickly that Neji couldn't make out what handsigns they even were.

"Wind style: great breakthrough." She called as she channelled her wind chakra into her throat, brought her hands to her mouth and blew a large gust of wind. Neji was ready for the attack though and he prepared his counter attack. He waited until the blast had almost hit him and then he did it. The jutsu he had made himself.

"Rotation." He called and span around in a circle, his arms extended out to his sides. A ball of blue chakra spun around him. Akane's eyes watched as the trees and ground around Neji cracked and broke under the force of the wind she had made. She lost sight of Neji through all the dust. She landed and waited to see if her attack had reached its mark. As the dust settled Akane saw Neji stood up straight, dirt covering his whole body, he was frowning and panting hard but otherwise untouched.

"Who would have guessed you'd have a jutsu powerful enough to cancel out my wind. You just seem to get even more impressive." She told him. Destruction was all around them and yet neither one of them had yet landed a single hit on the other. When it came to power they were both equally matched. As of now it came down to wits, who could outsmart the other person and manage to land a hit. Of course not only that but they would have to be quick enough to pull it off as well. "I'm guessing that jutsu of yours is the measure you've taken to conceal your blind spot. The fact you used it could mean two things. One is that I nearly had it or that it was the only jutsu you had that could cancel out my wind. The fact that it was a wide ranged attack and not aimed at a certain spot suggests that it was the latter, plus I highly doubt that you're blind spot would be on you front."

"You're very smart but that attack you just pulled has given me an idea." Akane's eyes widened as he came towards her, his movements were slow to her eyes and she dodged them easily. What was he planning, she thought to herself. Neji spun around and lifted his leg up high to kick her in the face but Akane just leant back a little and it went straight passed her. Neji spun back around and brought his fist towards her except this one was different. His fist was actually clenched like he planned to punch her but it was clear to Akane that that was not the way the Hyuga's fought. They always kept their hands flat and attacked with the palm of their hands. It didn't matter though she could just dodge it like any other attack. At the last moment Neji's hand opened and dirt flew out of his palm right into her eyes. Akane shut her eyes and stepped back instinctively and instantly she knew she had made a mistake. She had shut her eyes, she couldn't see which meant Neji was in the perfect place to attack.

"Gentle fist: eight trigrams 64 palms." After he called this the onslaught began. "2 palms, 4 palms, 8 palms, 16 palms, 32 palms, 64 palms." Akane coughed up blood and flew backwards landing on the ground with a thud. Her body was trembling all over but very slowly she began to push herself up again.

"The dirt on the ground...very clever. Of course I would have been able to dodge your fist but I can't dodge every grain of dirt, some of it was bound to go in my eye which of course was your plan all along." She said rubbing her eyes. They were bloodshot and saw but she could open them again.

"How is it your still able to move?" He asked her. "That attack should have wiped you out completely." Akane was up on her feet now, her legs were shaking but she was standing. She smiled weakly at him.

"I think I might have found your weak spot." She told him ignoring his comment.

"Impossible. There's no possible way you could know that."

"True, I don't know for sure. At this point it's just a theory of where it is but I've been thinking about it. You never let your opponent get behind you, so it's on your back somewhere. That rotation jutsu is actually meant to be used to detect small objects coming at you from all angles, that way it prevents the enemy from finding your weak spot. Wide range attacks don't work on you, especially not my wind style because you'll just use that jutsu to cancel it out."

"How does any of that information tell you were my weak spot is?" He asked her with a scowl.

"It doesn't really but you see I've been thinking about it and I believe that it's at the back of you neck between the third and fourth vertebrae I would say." Neji's frown deepened. "I'll take that as a sign that I'm right."

"How could you possibly guess the secret of my clan?" He asked.

"Simple really. I just used my brain. Watching you and putting together my own information I came up with that solution. If I think about it someone like me, someone without the Byakugan can turn my head to look at my back. Of course I don't have time to do that in battle but with your Byakugan you can see your back the same way I could if I turned my head far enough whilst you still look forward. That's the power of the Byakugan but just like everyone else you can't see that one spot, no one can even with the Byakugan. It's impossible, it means that you really don't have 360 degrees vision, you have 359. There's a one degree spot that even you can't see."

"I've never met anyone capable of such analytical skills. I never thought it possible for someone to just guess the secret of the Byakugan from a simple sparring match. It seems I underestimated you but that shall not happen again." Akane smiled weakly at him.

"I appreciate that although I think I'm done. I'm running low on chakra and that attack you just pulled really wiped me out. Just to be clear though I won't fall for the same trick twice which means of we face each other again you'll have to come up with a different strategies to blind me. For now though I think I'm..." Akane trailed off as her knees buckled and she fell to the floor. She made no move to stop herself but she was saved from face planting the floor when Neji lurched forward and caught her in his arms. Akane weakly looked up at him and smiled. "Thanks Neji..." Then she passed out.

"Neji what on earth had happened her?" Asked the voice of Lee as he, Tenten and Gai sensei appeared behind the two.

"Akane and I were training." He told them as he moved Akane's sleeping form and picked her up in a bridal style.

"Neji what did you do to Akane?" Tenten asked running to her only female comrade.

"Ha there's nothing like a bit of youthful competition early in the morning." Said Gai sensei with a smile.

"I am disappointed that you were bonding over a mighty meeting of fists and you did not invite me and Tenten. We are your comrades too and as such we must all bond together." Lee said with a determined face.

"Don't worry Lee I'm sure you'll get another shot at both Akane and Neji when the time comes." Gai sensei said placing a hand on the boys shoulder.

"Akane needs to get medical attention so if I could be excused I'll take her there now." Neji said ignoring Lee's comment.

"Yes of course. Take as much time as you need." Gai sensei replied.

"I'll go with you." Tenten said not wanting to be left alone with Lee and her sensei. Neji nodded at her and tightened his grip on Akane.

"Alright Lee is looks like it's just me and you today. Let's get to work." Gai sensei told his student.

"Yes of course Gai sensei." Lee replied and the two immediately turned and began running to who know where at full speed.

"Let's go." Neji said coldly as he turned and began to carry Akane to the hospital with Tenten following closely behind...
