Soaring Skyscrapers
When the bubbles cleared Nikita was in awe of what she saw. There was a huge tunnel leading through the water to the base if the island, lit be sea lanterns.
"Careful." Said Samantha, her voice sounding muffled underwater.
She then swam up to what looked like an office where two guards with tridents stood, watching the sea from the safe, dry room. Samantha quickly told them something and they nodded. One turned to a control panel and Nikita heard the sound of something being deactivated.
"What was that?" Asked Nikita.
"Pistons and redstone will activate a trap that spawns guardians in an intruder's path, trapping them. The guards here are the only ones who can deactivate the trap, which is triggered with this tripwire here," she said, gesturing to the just visible string. "Here and here." She said, pointing above and below the first string.
"Smart." Said Nikita as they swam on.
"Don't brush against the walls or floors, there are buttons and pressure plates that activate dispensers with tridents in them." She said.
"There are also Drowned Zombie spawner traps here, like the ones at the beginning." She said, swimming up to yet another office-like room and talking to the guards.
"It's safe now." She said, swimming forwards. Nikita followed close behind her, with Elijah to her right. As she looked at the walls closely she faintly saw the dispensers, which were hidden well in the stone walls.
"Swim over the tripwire here, or sand will be dropped in front of you, blocking your path and setting off the dispensers." Said Samantha, swimming over the tripwire.
"How did you make all this?" Asked Nikita.
"Years and years of work." Said Nikita.
"All if the people here worked on this place, and I know more about it than any other person besides the four Elders." She said.
"I'm Elder Azarias's daughter." She said, looking back at me.
"I was born when they were still building this place, when it was just a village on an island." She said.
She could be useful. Thought Nikita to herself.
"Here we are." Said Samantha, swimming up through a hole in the top of the tunnel. They emerged into a small stone room lit by glow stone with a door on one side and yet more guards on the other. Samantha helped Nikita up onto the stone floor and then did Elijah.
"Don't step on the raised stone tiles. They're pressure plates which will shoot arrows of weakness." She said.
They followed her out into a hallway and then into another room, this one wooden with carpet on the floor.
"Take off your diving gear and put it on the hooks behind you, then come meet me out in the hallway."
She then left, leaving Nikita and Elijah completely alone. Nikita slipped off her wetsuit and put her turtle shell back in her inventory.
Elijah did the same and they hung the soaking wet garments on the hooks. Nikita then took off her armor and put it in her inventory.
"What are you doing?" Asked Elijah.
"Taking off my armor and putting it away so I don't look hostile to the people here. Walking around in armor with a sword out makes you look like you're about to go into battle." She said.
"Which isn't a good thing."
Elijah nodded and took off his own armor, storing it in his inventory. He then pulled from his inventory a white hoodie, slipping it on over his black T-Shirt. Nikita found it odd to see him in casual clothing, for she had only seen him with his armor on. Nikita found it even weirder that he had on ripped jeans and white shoes.
"What?" Asked Elijah, looking at her, his green eyes sparkling, a smile tugging at his lips.
"I..." Nikita said, trailing off.
"Come on." He said, walking out of the room.
They found Samantha waiting for them by the door.
"Follow me." Said Samantha, leading them out a wooden door.
What Nikita saw amazed her. There were huge, towering buildings looming up above smaller office buildings and houses. Businesses lined the streets and people walked along the sidewalks, visiting the cafes and restaurants, or coming home from work for the day. Kids with backpacks were coming home from school, and parents walked with little kids by their sides.
What amazed her the most, however, was the giant stone wall that enclosed it all. It loomed at least 200 blocks tall, and had guards posted along the top. Nikita imagined all of the traps that must inside and on the wall itself.
"Wow." She said.
"It's a pretty amazing place, isn't it?" Samantha said, walking across the street and down a side street.
"These are all of the apartments that we have for travelers." She said, turning towards the buildings that lined either side of the road.
"You can pick any of these and settle yourselves in. I'll back at around 5:00 and give you a tour of the city." She said, waving to them as she walked off.
"I have a feeling that getting around this place is going to be a whole lot harder than I think." Said Elijah, gazing around at all of the buildings.
"Come on." Said Nikita, laughing.
They picked a house that was simple, a two-story building made of oak wood planks. It had windows on wither side and a pathway leading up to it. The house reminded Nikita of her home back in Brimstone.
When they walked in they found that it had a dining room with a table and chairs, a kitchen next to that and a living room with a couch and rocking chair. Upstairs were the two bedrooms and the bathroom along with closets of clean clothes. Nikita chose the bedroom with a purple bed, Elijah the one right across from it. When they were done checking out the house and setting up Nikita looked at the time.
It read 4:47.
"We have 13 minutes until she hets here." Said Nikita.
"What do you want to do?"
"First of all, get something to eat." Said Elijah.
"Then whatever you wish."
"Alright, then." Said Nikita, making her way downstairs to the kitchen.
She quickly made pork chops and carrots in the oven and brought them to the table. Just as they were finished eating the doorbell of their house was wrung.
Samantha was here.
