•off on the wrong foot•

You know,,,,,, I'm pretty stupid for a person who's supposed to be academically smart 🥴

Let's rewind to earlier this year in the spring. It's March, and it's time to pick out classes for the fall semester. I'm one of the lucky people who made my appointment with my counselor early so I get to pick out my classes first. I walk into my counselor's office and expect everything to go smoothly.

And, well, for the most part it did. I picked out my classes from a degree course outline and got them all finalized. It seemed like all was fine in the world.

Then let's cut to this week: the first week of the fall semester. I attend all my classes when I notice something wrong right away—when I went to my major's classes and we did class introductions, I was the only freshman. All the other students were juniors and seniors.

Today, I looked closely at my schedule.

I'm signed up for a 300- and 400-level course in the second semester of my freshman year.

For those of you who don't know, normally you take only 100-level courses your freshman year. And here I was taking junior/senior classes.

aaaaAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH—

It suddenly made perfect sense why my workload has been so monstrous. Not only are these high courses but one of them is accelerated. Condensed. Whatever you want to call it. It's the type of smushed, breakneck fast class where you go through 16 weeks worth of work in 8 weeks 🤡

I am so dumb. How did I not notice this earlier??? Am I really THAT blind? Why didn't I see this blunder sooner???

And then I think WHY did my counselor let me take these classes without ever pointing out they're higher level??? Ok. I know my counselor is new to her job but oh my god she should know better, right? Academic advisors are there to ADVISE. And she said nothing!!

But I can't blame her because at the end of the day it's my fault for not being observant and careful.

Hnnnngh.

I'm going to my counselor tomorrow to drop one of the high level courses. Thankfully my financial aid allows me to make blunders like this since its requirements aren't as strict as others'.

Want to hear something even stranger? I'm gonna drop the full-length 300-course bc I understand the 400 crunch course better. Like yeah the 400 one is a lot more work at a faster pace, but at least I can actually comprehend it.

This has not been my week.

Lesson of the day: pay close attention to what classes you're picking out!!

Thanks for putting up with my dumbass antics. Here's a meme—
