•grandma vs. fanfic•

The other day I was in the middle of working on a TIOG chapter when my grandparents decided to drop by and pay a visit. My grandma noticed I had a Google Doc full of writing up and asked me what I was doing.

"Oh, just writing a story," I said, grinning awkwardly and hoping she wouldn't ask any questions.

"What's it about?" she pressed.

My face:

"Oh,,, it's about this girl who runs away and becomes a pirate. She ends up stealing a magical creature and then the story follows her and the creature, uh, doing stuff."

Grandma smiled. "Who does she fall in love with?"

I blinked. "Uh, nobody? It's not that type of story."

"You should think about adding it in for romantics like me." She laughed. "Tell me when you've finished it! I want to read it."

Me, knowing perfectly well there's no way that's going to happen: "Oh, yeah, sure."

'Twas an interesting experience lol. It got me thinking, though.

I've actually thought about changing the Pokémon aspects of TIOG into original content and making the story a real book. It already has the foundations for an original work, so all I'd have to do is replace Pokémon with, like, dragons or something.

If I did that, then my family could actually read it and understand what's going on. My mom knows all about TIOG, but it was because I sat her down and had hours-long conversations about it with her going over the plot and characters. Googling pictures of Pokémon and telling her what they did helped, of course. Lowkey if she had the story her way, most of the main cast would end up six-feet-under lmao.

Do any of you guys have plans for venturing into original fiction? Yay? Nay? Please spill 🐼
