Chapter 4

Yay, another chapter :) This one is... eventful, to say the least :D I hope you like it!

--------------------------

The school had two pools on site: one was a large, indoor one that was situated inside a modern building with gleaming white tiles on the walls and a high glass ceiling. The second was round the back of the school grounds and was a slightly smaller open air pool surrounded by a brick wall, with shimmering blue water that sparkled as the sun’s rays were reflected off the liquid. The large iron gate prevented unauthorised access to the area, most likely to avoid any out of school parties, but which could be viewed as pointless as anyone who was determined enough to enter could climb over the wall without too much difficulty.

On that day, Olivia’s new gym class were being taught in the indoor pool, with its pristine appearance that was enough to give anyone a headache if they spent too much time in there. The group was stood at the edge of the pool, the boys dressed in regulation long blue trunks with the school logo emblazoned on the left leg, the girls dressed in an unflattering blue one piece swimsuit that clung awkwardly to their bodies. All except one girl.

She strode out from the direction of the changing rooms, diamond encrusted designer sunglasses over her eyes, lips freshly coated with another layer of her signature shade of lip gloss, wearing a brightly coloured floral bikini that showed off so much of her tanned body it was almost indecent. She strode over to the rest of the class, tossing her blonde hair behind her shoulders and standing by the side of the pool with Courtney and Kayla, one hand placed firmly on her hip in a supermodel pose.

The teacher, Ms. Damon, who also happened to be the strict coach of the football, basketball and swim team, was a large fierce woman with short dark hair and the hint of a moustache on her upper lip. A shining silver whistle hung by a string from her neck, which she lifted to her mouth and blew violently on, sending a shrill sound shooting through the room, bouncing off all of the polished walls.

"Into the pool now, and give me laps!"

No one moved from the side as they stood there, not wanting to brave the cold water that filled the giant swimming pool.

This angered the coach even more, causing her to blow her whistle even harder and scream at the class in a bellowing voice. "If you don’t get into that pool this INSTANT, I’ll throw you in there myself!’"

This triggered some of the more athletic types in the class to dive elegantly in the pool and begin swimming towards the opposite end, with the rest of the class jumping in awkwardly and setting off slowly behind them.

"Alyssa! What in God’s name are you wearing?" The coach said, suddenly noticing Alyssa’s unusual choice of swimwear as she stayed standing at the side of the pool, not making any attempt to join the rest of her classmates.

She rolled her eyes and sighed, as if she thought that she could not get any dumber. "Can’t you tell? This is a genuine new season Versace. Duh!"

"Oh dear…" Chelsie muttered to Olivia as they swum together companionably. "This is going to turn ugly."

"Don’t you dare take that tone with me! Into the pool, this instant!" Ms. Damon stepped up closer so her face was just above Alyssa’s, before blowing hard on the whistle once more, causing Alyssa to clasp her manicured hands over her ears in an attempt to block out the din that was ringing in her ears.

"No way. I’m not getting in there in this lifetime. Do you know how much this bikini cost me? It’s not made for getting wet, you know!"

There was a slight pause for a moment, in which silence consumed the atmosphere. The only sound that could be heard was the gentle splashing of the water as the rest of the class continued swimming, trying to pretend that they were not listening to the scenario that was going on at the edge of the pool.

Then suddenly, in an instant that went by so quickly that there was not time to process what was going on, the coach lunged forwards towards the blonde and shoved her forwards, sending her stumbling around before tumbling gracelessly into the cold water below. A wave of water leapt up immediately after the impact, sending ripples of water out in all directions.

The room tensed up as everyone waited for Alyssa to surface, as they knew that when she did there would be an uproar. A few seconds passed and a dark shape could be seen just underneath the surface of the water, which suddenly reared its head, gasping desperately for breath.

"You… BITCH!" she screamed, her wet hair fixed to the sides of her head and thick black mascara running down her cheeks. Her sunglasses had come off somewhere between hitting the water and surfacing, a fact that when she realised, it only angered her even more.

As she reached the edge of the pool and pulled herself out of the water, she approached the teacher with a look of fury fixed to her face.

"Do you know what you’ve just done?! DO YOU?" Alyssa screamed at her. "That was physical ASSAULT. I’ll have you fired! I’ll get my lawyers on you! I’ll… I’ll…" She broke off, breathless as she tried to think of more threats.

At this moment, Kayla and Courtney pulled themselves out of the pool too and hurried after Alyssa, as she turned on her heel and stormed back in the direction of the changing room, screaming as she left, "And you’re paying for those sunglasses!"

"Keep swimming!" Ms. Damon bellowed at the class who by now had reached their starting point. "I’m going to sort out that little brat." She turned in the direction that Alyssa had gone and exited through the glass door of the changing rooms.

As soon as the door swung shut again, the class broke out into excited chatter. Some of the guys mucked around, creeping up behind their friends and trying to dunk them. Dave, the class clown who they had seen earlier in the cafeteria being marched out by a couple of teachers, began splashing around, trying to annoy the girls and get a look down their swimsuits. A degree of chaos had broken out in a class that had been so well behaved only a few seconds ago when they were under the eagle eye of the fiercest teacher in the school.

Chelsie and Olivia pulled themselves out of the water to sit on the side of the pool, gently swinging their feet in the water.

"Does stuff like this happen every day or something?" Olivia asked, stunned by the amount of drama that was going on in the school in just one day.

"Uh… pretty much," Chelsie laughed. "And most of the time, Alyssa’s involved."

Olivia glanced over at Dave, who had now taken to jumping from the top of the lifeguard’s seat – a lifeguard who was so mysteriously absent, Olivia noticed – into the pool, sending a huge splash of water that drenched most of them. The guys were laughing, egging him on, and the girls were just sat there watching, giggling at his stupid stunts.

"You can guarantee Alyssa will come out of it unscathed though. Her Dad’s practically funding this school, like I said. Mr Delmar isn’t going to get rid of that in a hurry."

"But if it was one of us, we’d be chucked out."

"Faster than you could say… well, I don’t know. But pretty fast." She laughed. "Alyssa will have little sulk at home, a whine on the phone to her precious Dad and then it’ll all blow over. Honestly. I’ve seen this so many times before."

"Well, I’ll be looking forward to gym from now on," Olivia smiled. Then she looked over as she sensed someone strolling in from the changing rooms that definitely wasn’t Alyssa.

It was another guy, one that she hadn’t seen before. He was tall and heavily tanned, with gleaming muscles and spiky black hair that held perfectly. He was just as gorgeous as Carter and Ethan, but he had a more mysterious, sexy way about him that gave away the fact that he wasn’t a typical jock. He turned his attention to the girls in the pool, many of which were grinning up at him stupidly and squealing, "Hi Aaron!" He smiled sexily and gave them a mischievous wave as he passed. Then his attention turned to Olivia as his deep green eyes fixated on her at the side of the pool, mentally noting to himself that he had not seen her before.

He made his way over to her, half-smiling in a way that made Olivia’s legs feel like jelly. He took a seat next to her, as she searched for something to say, but no words came out of her stunned mouth.

"I do not believe that we have met before," he said, in a low, soothing voice that hinted a Spanish accent.

"Um…" Olivia was almost too astounded to get her words out properly. "Olivia. I’m new here."

"Indeed. Such a beautiful name," he said quietly, almost whispering. "Mine is Aaron. It is my greatest pleasure to meet you, my dear Olivia." He had a way of looking deep into her with his sparkling green eyes that made Olivia’s heart skip, and the way her name passed his lips made it sound exotic and exciting.

Olivia seemed oblivious to the fact that the rest of her class where still messing around in the pool, and that Chelsie was sat next to her, listening to every word that they was being spoken. "Thank you," she said shyly, smiling.

At that instant, their moment was shattered as the door slammed open and Ms. Damon entered once more, looking still as angry as she had when she had first left. "Get out of the pool and get changed," she bellowed at the class, who then hurriedly started pulling themselves out of the water.

"Maybe we could meet again later?" Aaron looked at Olivia with a warm smile. "I would like to see you again."

"Yes," Olivia answered, barely able to speak as they both stood up.

"After school, yes," Aaron said quietly. "Until then." He smiled and then turned round to make his way back to the changing rooms, even though he had been so late for class that he had not even been in the pool.

Olivia turned to Chelsie and squealed excitedly once he was at a safe distance away. "What just happened?" she asked, fanning herself with her hand in an attempt to cool down.

"Aaron Montero." Chelsie said matter-of-factly, as if the subject could not possibly be any more boring. "Probably hooked up with ninety nine percent of girls in this school."

"What?" Olivia frowned, suddenly not feeling so much on cloud nine. It was like she’d just come skydiving back down to earth, but without a parachute. Was this true, or was Chelsie just jealous of her romantic encounter with a gorgeous guy? Before, she’d felt like she could completely relate to her, and that she was warm and friendly. But now, she felt like she didn’t completely believe the words that were coming out of her mouth.

"The bad boy," Chelsie raised her eyebrows. "You know, rebellious, mysterious and the biggest flirt alive. It’s nothing special that he’s taken a shine to you."

"Right," said Olivia, suddenly feeling irritated. That couldn’t be true. He couldn’t be a player. Players were jerks, just mindlessly hitting on any girl they could lay their hands on - he had made her feel special. It was probably just Chelsie being jealous. She was kind of a nerd herself. Olivia wondered if she’d ever even had a boyfriend before.

She stepped under a shower in the allocated block in the changing rooms, turned the dial and let the warm water run over her body, her heart still hammering inside her chest with excitement. Then she grabbed a towel and entered a changing cubicle away from Chelsie, locking the door.
