3 YEARS LATER
PRESENT TIME
TOM FOCUS

Echo stares at Tom from across the table, a smile on her face. Thomas rambles on about the part he just auditioned for. His eyes sparkled as he talked, he really did love his job. So much so that his friend circle often joked about him being married to his work. Echo always laughed along to these jokes, but in reality it bothered her. She knew he had proposed to his last girlfriend in less than a year. Echo and Tom had been dating for over three, it made her anxious and feel unworthy thinking about this.

"I really hope I land this part. I think it would be a great experience." Tom takes another bite of steak, the flavors bursting on his tongue. He thinks about wanting to share this with a certain person for a moment, but quickly pushes the thought away. The thought vanishes into the dark abyss of Tom's mind like the millions before it.

"You will!" Echo, always supportive, always nice. She smiles at her boyfriend picking up her glass of wine and pointing it towards him, "I'm sure of it."

"Don't get my hopes up too much." Tom grins, pointing his wine glass toward his girlfriend too. Their glasses clank, the wine doing a dance before settling down and being sipped.

"I think they're already up there with the clouds." Echo smirks, downing the rest of the dark red liquid in her glass.

The two walk, hand in hand. The coolness of the London wind guiding them quickly toward Tom's apartment. They walk into the apartment laughing. Hearts full of joy... and love.

Echo places herself on the couch, grabbing the remote to turn on the TV and go to Netflix. Tom is in the kitchen, grabbing two wine glasses and setting them on the counter. He pops open a bottle of wine and pours it into the glasses. He puts the bottle away and brings the glasses into the living room, handing one to Echo before sitting down. The two cuddle up close, enjoying each other's presence.

They watch one movie after another, going through multiple glasses of wine. Echo's body goes limp on Tom's, light snores erupting from her body. He lets her sleep until the movie finishes, turning the TV off when it does. "Echo." He says, shaking her shoulder. The woman groans, picking her head up off of Tom's shoulder, hair covering her face.

"What?" She whines, just wanting to sleep.

"Let's go to bed." Tom stands up and looks into Echo's eyes.

"But the couch is so comfy." She pouts, looking down at the couch.

"Come on." Tom smiles, grabbing her hands and pulling her off the couch.

"Make me." She smirks. Tom smiles before bending down and throwing her over his shoulder. Echo gasps, licking her lips, "The view down here is impeccable."

"And it's all for you." Tom walks into the bedroom and lays her on to the bed.

"For me, you say?"

***

Echo sleeps on Tom's bare chest. His heart beat is slow and constant. His mind wanders over the future. He thinks about a future with Echo. He thinks about a proposal in a few years. Maybe in a park, Echo loves the park. A year or two later they'd get married, have a dog. They'd have date nights every Friday, go to restaurants, movies, maybe even amusement parks. At some point they'd have kids. Each a few years a part, but overall close in age. Tom's mind goes over his future children, what they'd do as a family. What they'd look like. The smile that had grown on Tom's face fades. A child. He has one somewhere.

A boy? A little girl maybe? He wonders what his ex would have named them. What they're like. God, how old would they be now? Three? A toddler that can walk, even talk maybe. He wonders if they enjoy sports, going to the park. Would they behave well? Of course they would, Y/N is raising them... Y/N.

What's she like now? Where is she now? Is she okay? His mind comes up with so many questions, his heart beating faster, a less consistent pattern. His mind races for what feels like hours before finally coming to a conclusion. It's Y/N, of course she's okay. She's strong, a fighter, there's no way she's not doing amazing, wherever she is. She's somewhere safe, doing an amazing job raising an amazing child. Tom wasn't so worried about his kid, they have an amazing mother to guide them through life. The child will be perfectly fine. Maybe it'll even excel at life. And hopefully, they'll never make the same mistake Tom did.

Thomas couldn't deny it, he regrets that night so much. If he could redo it, he would in a heart beat. He may not be in love with Y/N, but he still loves her. More than anyone else, probably. And as much as he knows that his child is okay, that they're perfectly fine, it doesn't stop him from wanting to meet them. Be there for them, be apart of their life. Be their father.

***

The sun peaks through the window, rays of light hitting the lumps on the bed. An iPhone alarm blares, waking up the two bodies.

"Turn it off..." Echo mumbles, lightly slapping Thomas' form.

"I am, I am." Tom's hands slaps around the bedside table, eventually finding the phone and picking it up. He turns off the alarm and once again cuddles close to Echo. His hand makes its way into Echo's hair, brushing it softly.

"I love you." Echo mumbles, a smile on her face.

Tom continues brushing through the woman's hair, hesitating for a few seconds. "I love you, too." Echo closes her eyes at this, content. The man, however, cant help but feel his heart skip a beat in agony, somehow knowing this is wrong, this isn't how it should be. His mind wanders back to the same place it was last night. He wants to meet his child. He will meet his child.
