The Sweets Baker and Jin
CHAPTER ONE: Frosting, Fondant, And Jin
You hurry from your apartment carrying the twins' cake. You close your door, step over the neighbor's dog, and don't trip on the cat sitting on the steps two floors down.
You made it out of your apartment building without incident, feeling rather proud of yourself.
Smiling, you start to turn the corner of your building, being very careful as you head to your bakery just a few doors down.
Suddenly, you collide with someone. The cake box is smashed against your chest, and the cake smears down the front of your dress as it falls. You're unaware that the cake got vengeance on the one who collided with you.
You watch the cake fall in what seems like slow motion. You start to tear up because making the cake with their favorite characters on it was such a lot of work.
The box and cake fell to the sidewalk just as your heart fell for the most handsome man you had ever seen standing before you, reaching to wipe off the front of your dress. Realizing where his hands would be going, you back away, startled.
"I'm sorry. Please forgive me," he says, pulling his hands away as he realizes what he almost did. "Let me buy you a replacement cake."
You look up into a pair of warm, melted chocolate and just as sweet, brown eyes. You can't speak. He took your breath away.
"Miss? Can I buy you another cake?"
Snapped back into reality, you respond with a sigh of resignation. "You can't buy a replacement cake. I made this myself. It's special. It's one of a kind."
Despite the situation, he smiles. "You like to cook?" he asks, pulling a handkerchief from his pocket.
You smile back as you take the handkerchief he held out to wipe your dress. "Yes, I love cooking, but my passion is baking."
He grins broadly, "I love to cook too. By the way, my name is Seokjin." He gives you a small bow.
"Hi Seokjin. You can call me Sugar. It's a nickname everyone around here knows me by." You blush, explaining, "Because I bake sweets."
You start to giggle as you notice he did not escape unscathed from the cake disaster, for there is frosting on the front of his pants, with one of the little characters stuck to it right where the zipper is. You blush and have to turn away as you start laughing. Of all places, it just had to get stuck there. You have to put your hand over your mouth to stifle your laughter.
He looks down and blushes a deep red. You hold out his handkerchief to him as he uses what little is not already covered in cake and frosting to wipe the front of his pants.
"You can come to my bakery—it's just around the corner—and use the restroom to clean up if you like."
He sighs, "Thanks. I appreciate that a lot."
You enter your shop, and you point him toward the restroom. He thanks you and heads that way.
Your best friend Sia, who works with you in the bakery, comes out of the back with cookies fresh from the oven. She sees the back of a man enter the restroom and sets the cookie tray down on the counter.
She then notices your dress and exclaims, "Oh my, what happened? " She grabs a kitchen towel and begins to help you wipe your dress. "What happened?" Then she suddenly grimaces, "Oh no, not the twins' cake!"
You frown and reply, "Yes, the twins' cake. It's a total loss, but with your help, I can make another just in time. But I need to run to my apartment to shower, change, and grab the extra little characters. You start the cake batter, and I will be back as soon as I can."
Not even two steps away, you stop and say, "Oh no, we don't have time to mix another batter, bake it, and let it cool, darn it!"
Your bestie says, "Let's use one of the other cakes we already have made and decorate that one instead?"
When she sees the man walk out from the restroom, she asks, "Is that a customer?" and begins primping and smiling.
"NO, that is the man who collided with me, smashing the cake."
She starts to glare at him. He is still looking down at his pants as he walks to the counter. He looks up and begins to apologize again.
"I'm sorry for ruining the cake. At least let me pay for it."
Your best friend is standing still as a statue, mouth gaping open. She recognized who was standing there. The man who collided with you was World Wide Handsome Jin, one of the most popular global idol groups.
CHAPTER TWO: Do You Know Who He Is?
She stands there speechless as you talk with Seokjin. "It's ok, you don't have to pay for it. I was just as much at fault for not paying attention."
You grab your purse to head back to your apartment to change, and he stops you at the door on the way out.
"Would you at least let me buy you dinner tonight? I feel so bad for what happened." He holds the door open, hoping you will say 'yes.'
You sigh. As much as you would like to, you need to change and rush back to make another cake for the twins' birthday party later that day.
"I really need to go home and change, and I have to remake the cake. I don't think I will have time for anything else."
He frowns, slightly disappointed. He holds the door for you to walk out. "May I come by later and see the finished cake?"
In a hurry, you quickly say, "Yeah, sure, that would be fine."
He smiles, and as you both walk out the door, he goes left, you go right, and your best friend goes down onto a stool, fan-struck, mindlessly grabbing a warm chocolate chip cookie and taking a bite. "Mmm," Sia murmurs as she watches Jin exit the shop.
By the time you shower and change at your apartment, Sia is in the kitchen at the shop, taking the freshly made cakes out of the quick freeze, a trick of the trade for rushing to cool down a cake.
You call, "I'm back!" as you tie an apron over your fresh dress.
After taking out the last cooled cake layer, she turns to you and says, "Surprise!" You hug her tightly after she puts the cake down.
"You are the best!!" Your smile is as bright as sunshine with relief.
She says, "I know," and you both laugh.
She turns the cakes out of the pans and says, "Do you know who that was today? The man who collided with you?"
You finish unboxing the extra little characters, lining them up in the order they will go on the cake. Half-paying attention to Sia, you respond with a "Hmm?" and get fondant out to make extra scenery pieces for the cake.
Sia giggles then asks again, "I asked, do you know who that was today? The man that you collided with?"
Focused on getting the airbrush out to paint a background scene on the cake, you answer, "He said his name was Seokjin."
With your hand reaching for edible paint, your friend grabs your arms and turns you toward her.
"Sia, what the...!?" You juggle the paints, keeping them from falling to the floor.
She says excitedly, "That was JIN! World Wide Handsome Jin!"
Stunned, you look at her. What she said was unbelievable. "What? Are you sure?"
"Yes. I'm sure I have his posters in my room, and I would recognize him anywhere." She sighs, "Kim Seokjin."
You drop onto the kitchen stool at the counter in shock. "It was Jin? I, I didn't recognize him. I was so embarrassed over the cake and upset for the twins that it didn't register. I never thought of running into him anywhere."
Later that day, once over the shock of someone famous coming into your bakery, with the help of your bestie, the twins' cake is ready for delivery. As you clean up, you are about to close the shop for the day.
You smile at Sia and say, "Thanks to your help, it turned out even better than when I first made it."
She grins and says, "And thanks to Jin."
You look at her, confused, "Thanks to him? How? He crushed it."
She laughs, "If it hadn't been for fate causing you two to run into each other, you wouldn't have needed to make another..." She uses air quotations, saying, "Even better cake."
You both laugh. "Yeah, I think you're right. I thought he would come back to see the cake. He said he wanted to."
Your best friend says, "Well, he is a very busy idol and probably won't be able to make it back."
You pick up the box with the cake and say, "Okay, here I go. Let's hope the cake and I both make it this time."
You both laugh and then hear the little bell over the door jingle. You both look, and there he is, smiling. "I see I made it just in time. May I see the cake?"
You slightly blush as your best friend grins at you. You set the box on the table and open it. He steps closer to look inside, and you softly close your eyes and gently inhale his cologne.
Without knowing it, you softly go, "MmmMMm."
He looks up at you. "Did you say something?"
Embarrassed, you blush and say, "Oh, um, the cake smells. . ." You lean close to the cake and say, "Yummy, it smells yummy."
Your best friend laughed so hard she headed back to the kitchen, the door swinging behind her.
CHAPTER THREE: Love Is . . . Cooking
After taking a closer look at the cake, he says, "That looks fantastic. Your artwork is beautiful."
You smile at him. "Thank you."
He smiles warmly before asking, "May I walk you to where you're taking the cake?"
You're surprised he would ask you, "You can if you want to. Do you have an extra change of clothes... just in case?"
He laughs, "I'm sure we will get there in one piece and the cake, too." Then you notice he has changed clothes, too. He must be staying nearby.
You wonder if the others are here, too. You didn't recall there being a concert. Sia would have constantly made sure you knew about it if they were. You softly smile, thinking about her love for the group.
You start to pick up the cake box, and he takes it from your hands. "Let me carry it for you."
You smile and head towards the door to hold it open for him. "Thank you. We don't have very far to walk."
Your best friend pops her head out of the kitchen doorway. "Take your time. I will close up tonight."
On your way, you and Jin started talking about cooking and baking. You told him why this cake was special.
The little twins were turning five and had always come to your shop on Saturday for a mini cupcake with their dad since they were two. They were the sweetest little boys, and they always kissed you on the cheek as a thank you. You smile as you tell him about the little twins.
You reach the restaurant that their dad owns and go in. A private section of the restaurant is set up for a birthday party.
You enter and see the twins. They come running forward, laughing and calling, "Uncle, Uncle," and head straight for Jin.
You stare, surprised to discover that he is their Uncle. They dance around him as he tries to dodge them without dropping the cake. "Stob, stob!" he laughs.
Their dad, your good friend, rushes forward to take the cake from him. You and Jin follow him into the decorated room. You keep glancing at Jin, 'This is his family?' He places the cake down and unboxes it.
Your friend beams with pleasure as he places the cake on the table set up for it. "This is exactly what they wanted." He turns to you, smiling. "Thank you. This is perfect."
You smile as his wife, Meena, comes up and looks at the cake with the boys. "Oh, Sugar, you outdid yourself. This is perfect, absolutely perfect. I love it." She hugs you and tells you again, "Thank you."
The twins are excited about the cake and want to play with the little characters. Their dad tells them, "Not now, my little men. We need everyone else to get here to see it, too." He smiles lovingly at his sons.
His wife looks at you, then at Jin. She noticed that Jin hadn't taken his eyes off you and said, "Oh, I'm sorry. Let me introduce you to my brother-in-law, Kim Seokjin."
You smile brightly at her, "We've met quite by accident." You start to laugh, and so does Jin.
"Yes, we did. Completely by accident." He says while smiling at you.
Sensing a good story, she grins and asks, "Oh, tell me, tell me." She notices the spark in Jin's eyes when he looks at you, and she can tell you are smitten with him.
She gushes, excited with the possibility of love blooming, "You must join us for dinner tonight."
You look undecided, and Jin takes your hand and says, "Please, I would like it very much if you did."
You smile at him, forming your answer, when Meena interrupts you. "Good, it's settled then."
She takes you by the arm and, smiling, whispers as she leads you away from the others, "So tell me."
You laugh and explain the cake accident and where one of the little characters ended up. She bursts out laughing, and you can't help but join in.
Smiling knowingly, she hopes the next special cake to be made will be a wedding cake. She knows you and Jin have a lot in common, and like her and her husband, cooking was the binding ingredient to their marriage.
Just then, the door opens, and you can't believe it—the others are here, soon followed by Namjoon, J Hope, and Yoongi. You think to yourself, Sia would faint dead of a heart attack if she were here.
You quickly texted her.
My baker boss - Remember the invitation you received for the twins' birthday party?
Sia - yeah, what about it? You know I don't like kiddie parties
My baker boss - well, you'll LOVE this one. They are ALL here!
Sia - OMG, no waaaa . . .
My baker boss - Sia?
My baker boss - Sia, are you there?
My baker boss - when you pick yourself up off the floor, get over here!! lol
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Love was sweet for the Sweets Baker and Jin; they were cutting a wedding cake two years later.
At their wedding, Sia was holding onto the arm of her new boyfriend, Namjoon, and with a gleam in her eye, she looked up at him, *'I will catch that bouquet!'
A/N * A bride tossing a bouquet over her shoulder to her bridesmaids is a tradition at some weddings. The belief is that the one who catches the bouquet will be the next to marry.
