Not a request but Dad! Cole is one of my favourite things in the world and I couldn't help myself-
Featuring Siena from Musically Me and their daughter Lilly.
Lyrics from Dear Theodosia by Lin Manuel Miranda from Hamilton The Musical
******
Siena was exhausted from her day at work. All she wanted to do was flop into the bed and bury herself under a mountain of pillows. Maybe even hibernate a bit.
The woman sighed, tucking her blonde hair behind her ear as she balanced her grocery bags in one hand and struggled to open the door. When she finally made it in her nose was hit with the distinct smell of something burning.
She smiled, but not because of the charcoal, but rather the laughter that danced through the air. Siena kicked off her shoes and entered the kitchen, her grin widening as she walked in on the scene.
Music played faintly in the background, it was jazzy and fun, Lilly's favourite music at the moment. The little girl clapped her hands excitedly as Cole danced around the kitchen, exaggerating his movements for his daughter's entertainment as he cleaned up the large explosion of food that covered the counter. His brown eyes twinkled as he looked at Lilly and lovingly wiped a stain off her cheek. He glanced up and caught sight of his wife hanging in the doorway, a huge smile brightening his face. He turned off the music and hastily tried to alleviate the mess.
Lilly twisted to see what her dad was looking at. A squeal erupted from her lips and she wiggled to get out of her high chair. "Mommy!"
"Hey, dove!" Siena immediately passed the bags to Cole making him grunt so she could pick up the little girl. "I am so happy to see you!"
Lilly giggled and Siena studied her. Lilly's dark locks were covered in some sort of substance and her nose was covered in flour, the white powder was bright in contrast to the little girl's dark complexion. Cole was constantly trying to cook and Siena didn't have the heart to tell him no. She just hoped that he had the sense to keep Lilly's thick hair and curious fingers away from the flames and food.
"What am I? Chopped liver?" Cole teased after he put the groceries away. Siena gave him a look but kissed him on the cheek, making a face when her lips hit something sticky.
"I think some of us need a bath." Siena looked fondly at Lilly.
The little girl nodded solemnly. "Mommy."
"What?" Siena gasped. "Are you saying a stink?"
"Yes!"
Cole snorted as Siena rolled her eyes, amused. "Nice try, sweet pea." She tapped the girl on the nose. "But I'm not the one covered head-to-toe in... this."
Cole shrugged sheepishly as Lilly pouted. She always put up a fuss for a bath but as soon as Lilly got in she was happy as a lark.
"I can take her." Cole offered.
Siena hesitated. "Are you sure? You've been with her all day, I can give her a good wash."
"I'm sure, you're probably tired." Cole smiled sweetly at her, already taking their daughter from her. "Besides you can fix my attempt at dinner while we clean up."
Siena laughed. "Well... alright." She reluctantly let them go.
Siena watched as they made their way to the bathroom. Lilly chattered excitedly the whole way and Cole nodded along at all the right intervals, acting like what she was saying was the most important thing in the world. A warm feeling spread through Siena's chest as she moved to wash off the counter of the remains of her husband's disaster.
Siena had been more than a little concerned when Cole offered to be a stay-at-home dad so she could work. Siena didn't want to put all the pressure of parenting on him and didn't want Cole to give up his job. Turns out Cole was more than happy to give up his job at the rock climbing facility to raise their little girl. He claimed there was nothing he'd rather do more.
Cole made sure she was okay with it of course since Siena would be the main source of their income (not like she wasn't before but now she was the only parent working) but Siena didn't mind as long as Cole was happy.
Boy, was Cole absolutely over the moon in love with Lilly. Siena loved Lilly just as much of course but Cole adored her with every fibre of his being. He would make sure her snacks were cut with the little cookie cutters so that they were in fun shapes, Cole took her on his jogs in the stroller and spent hours playing dress-up, whether he was a fearsome monster, comedic pirate, or a princess at a tea party.
Siena loved watching them together and her heart swelled every time Cole looked at Lilly. He had this certain expression in his eyes he only reserved for their daughter. A slight smile, eyes sparkling and warm, and a slight tilt to the head. Anyone who saw Cole look at her could see how much he loved that girl.
Siena made a quick meal. Chicken nuggets and deep-fried potatoes she could pop in the oven. It wasn't healthy in any way but they had done some generally healthy meals and deserved a little treat. It was quick and easy and the potatoes were shaped in little smiley faces.
No one can argue with smiley face potatoes.
"Not gonna lie, I am the best dad in all of Ninjago," Cole announced as he came into the room. Lilly was propped on his hip, already in her little pink bunny pyjamas.
Siena raised an eyebrow as she set the plates down. "Is that so?"
"Yup. So what if Jay does voices? My bath-time is far more superior to Uncle Jay's, isn't that right Lilly?"
Lilly nodded seriously. Siena was certain the girl had no idea what her dad was talking about but was agreeing anyway. She was a total daddy's girl.
"Alright, Super Dad, why don't you both sit down and eat?" Siena suggested.
She helped settle Lilly on her high chair and broke up her chicken nuggets in half so they weren't so big. Lilly loved her food with passion and had a habit of just stuffing it all in her mouth.
"So, how was your day?" Cole asked as he stabbed a smiley face in the eye and held it for Lilly to eat.
Siena hesitated. "It was good, very tiring."
Cole tilted his head in concern, his hand pausing before the fork got to Lilly. The girl kept her mouth open and tried to lean forward to get the food but it was too far away.
"You've been tired a lot lately," Cole said slowly. Lilly's feet kicked impatiently.
Excuse me, can I eat please? Her stink-eye said.
"I'm fine," Siena assured him, her eyes flicked to Lilly. "We'll talk about it later, okay?"
Cole's brow furrowed but he dropped the subject when Lilly complained. His job was to feed her not dangle the food in front of her nose!
Siena watched in amusement as Lilly chomped into the potato at last happily. She could eat the potatoes and nuggets by herself but Cole still wanted to feed Lilly while she didn't have the brain capacity to whine about it.
After dinner, they settled into the easy routine of the evening. Cole cleaned up while Siena played with Lilly before bed. Then Siena got her ready by helping the girl brush her teeth and comb out her wild hair before Cole came so they could all read a story together. Lilly would then insist on five. Cole would try and negotiate down to two. He would cave at four, Siena would give him a look and then they'd all read through the stories.
Siena stroked her daughter's hair, smiling as she drifted off to sleep. They spent the rest of the evening quietly, reading on the couch and cleaning up the toys lying around so Cole didn't have another clear lego incident.
Siena flipped the page of her book and looked up when Cole entered, a pink bear tucked under his arm and a bag of blocks in his hand. He put them in the little cubby before turning to look at his wife, face serious.
Siena set down the book as he sat down across from her so they could talk. "So..." Cole said awkwardly. "Are we going to talk about it?"
They both knew what he was talking about. Siena took a deep breath and moved forward so she could place her hand on his arm.
"Is it an ear infection or something? Did the doctor want to run tests? Is it too much stress? I can go back to work." Cole said worriedly.
"Cole," Siena said gently. "Remember when I was pregnant with Lilly and I kept feeling dizzy and tired all the time?"
He frowned. He looked confused as he recalled the fun, torturous stage of pre-child birth. "Yes but-" the words finally hit him and he stared at her open-mouthed. Siena blinked, eyes glistening as she smiled, nodding to confirm his suspicions.
"Oh, my first spinjitzu master." Cole fell back with a gasp, cupping his hands over his mouth. "We're having another baby."
"We are," Siena whispered back.
"We're having another baby!" Cole exclaimed standing up.
"We are!" Siena cried.
Cole laughed out loud, forgetting their need to be quiet as he picked her up and spun Siena around. "This is amazing!"
"Shh! Sh!" Siena tried to hush him but she couldn't hold back her own giggles. "Lilly's asleep!"
"Lilly can skip preschool tomorrow, it's not like she's learning anything important there. Sharing is for weaklings." Cole said, his eyes were bright with excitement. Siena knew she should probably give him one of those looks but she was too happy to lecture him.
He set her down, his nose brushing against hers as he pressed their foreheads together. His hand smoothed over her belly. "I can't believe it."
Siena chuckled. "Me neither." She murmured kissing him. "But you are such an amazing dad, Cole. Lilly and our next little one got really lucky."
"I think I was the one who got lucky," Cole said back, embracing her and putting his head on her shoulder. Siena tilted her head when she felt wetness on her shoulder.
"Honey, are you crying?"
"Maybe." Cole sniffed.
"Oh, Cole." Siena hugged him tighter. "That is so sweet."
Cole was struggling to hold in his sobs. "I'm just so happy. Lilly will have her own little brother."
Siena scrunched her brow. "Or sister."
"Of course, of course." Cole agreed but he didn't appear that interested.
"Cole," Siena said sternly, pulling back to give him the look.
"I'm joking." Cole laughed. He swiped at his eyes. "Gosh, I think all those sad Disney movies we watch have made me more emotional."
"Cole, you were always emotional." Siena laughed. "That's what I love about you."
"Why's Daddy sad?" A little voice asked.
They both whipped around to see Lilly looking up at them curiously. Her faded elephant stuffed animal flopped like a dead animal in her arms.
Siena and Cole glanced at each other. Siena crouched beside her and took Lilly's hand. "Dove," Siena smiled at her. "What would you say if I said you were going to be a big sister?"
Lilly's mouth shifted as she thought about it carefully. There was a pause before she finally answered, her tone firm and decided.
"Ew."
NOTE****
I love fluffy family moments!
The Mandalorian fanfics get me in a dad and baby mood 😂. Mando and Cole are very different though. While Mando is more awkward and blunt, Cole is more cuddly and bright. But they both love their little kiddos so much!!!!
I thought Siena having her own little nickname for Lilly would be so cute. I decided on Dove since the bird has such a pretty song.
I think Cole would be an amazing dad! I imagined him as a stay-at-home dad, taking care of the kids and attempting to make meals without burning down the house. 😂
As some of you may know I originally was going to have Cole and Siena have two daughters. But I really wanted Cole to have some cute father-son moments so I switched to a little boy. I think his name will be Cal. Short for Calypso. I'm sure my Percy Jackson fans will think of Leo's girlfriend but according to Fort Cry Parenting the name "is a music genre of West Indian music and was developed by Africans as a means of communication."
Well, I hope you liked it! I have a crossover planned that I'll try and finish! It's not exactly what any of you are expecting but I think you'll like it! (Hopefully)
