it seems like it's calling out to me | ninjago + lord of the rings crossover

Prompt: crossover from bruchstuecksammlerin

The crossover is Lord of the Rings and Ninjago

This probably wasn't what anyone had in mind when they requested a crossover but I came up with a very sad story idea and had to do it.

Title from the lyrics of How Far I'll Go from Disney's Moana.

Spoilers for Ninjago Seabound? It's subtle it spoilers nonetheless.

Also, I'm just throwing the Lord of the Rings characters in there. I'm getting most of my stuff from fan fiction and the movies rather than the book themselves.

The waves moved like they were dancing, the steady crash becoming drumbeats of the ocean's song. The water lapped at the rocks where the girl sat, her dark hair moving with the wind as she closed her eyes and soaked in the peace.

As calming as the rhythmic sound was it did little to soothe the turmoil that darkened the spirits of the young woman. The girl sighed, she had hoped that sitting by the water would help lessen the pull from the ocean. It had a little but now she wanted to go towards it more than ever.

The raven-haired girl stared at the hypnotic water. She wondered if she'd be able to pull herself away as she let it numb her senses. A hand reached towards the waves, feeling the pulse of its life in her fingertips. It whispered to her, drawing her in, she couldn't help the dreamy smile on her face as she moved closer and closer...

"Mae govannen, Lady Nya." A soft voice pulled her from her daze.

Nya jerked in surprise, she had risen the water subconsciously with her elemental powers, when her concentration snapped the water fell with a plop!

"Oh! Hi! Sorry, I didn't see you there." Nya said hastily to the newcomer.

He stood calmly, his piercing blue eyes watching her carefully. Nya suppressed a shiver. She didn't want to be rude to her companion but he was just as unnerving as he was mysterious. The leader has said he was an elf and though she was familiar with being around foreign species this one seemed to put her on edge almost as much as Garmadon.

Nya tilted her head as she looked over his fine features and pointed ears. She's never met an elf but she had always assumed they were like the geckles in Shintaro. The tall human-like being was nothing like the annoying purple creatures in the caves. In fact, he had been very opposed to camping out in the cavern. It had taken a lot of convincing and some teasing from the dwarf, Gimli, to get him to settle.

"I apologize, I did not mean to startle you." Legolas dipped his head.

"It's okay," Nya said quickly. There was an awkward silence that followed. The elf appeared unbothered, his gaze looking out to the sea.

"You feel it too." He whispered.

Nya's brow furrowed. "Excuse me?"

"The sea calling." Legolas turned his eyes to her, eyes gentle as he stood there, teetering on the edge of the cliff like it was nothing.

Nya felt like her heart was lodged in her throat. "I'm sorry, I don't know what you're saying." She said stiffly, moving to stand.

"You hide it from your loved ones." Legolas continued before she could walk away. "It scares you."

Scares her? It terrifies her. Nya wants more than anything to fight against this feeling but fate had its grip on her and she's grown tired of kicking and fighting against it. Nya's afraid one day that she will lose the battle and Jay will have to watch her fade away into the sea.

Nya pressed her lips together and glared at him. "What do you want?"

Legolas shrugged. "I only want to relate to you. I have heard the call of the gulls. It sings to my soul so beautifully, taking prey on my weakness and dampening the light. It's become a gilded cage around me that I fear I will never be able to be released from. I know the turmoil you face." A flicker of sadness went through his gaze.

Nya blinked. She didn't think that anyone would ever understand the feeling. Jay had noticed the change in her, the way she would look dreamily into space and was always restless. Nya had tried to talk to him but she couldn't bring herself to. She didn't want to leave him. Talking about it would only make Jay think she didn't want to be with him. Nya did want to stay! She really did. But it was a homesickness that never went away. It was always in her head, like an echo that went on forever.

"It's like a siren," Nya said, at last, letting her walls fall just a little bit. "It's song is constantly haunting me wherever I go."

Legolas was quiet, as usual, simply watching her carefully in the way that he did.

Nya's brow furrowed as she focused on him. "How do you feel the water?" He didn't have any hydrokinetic powers that she was aware of. The elf seemed more adept to the trees than the ocean.

"Elves are stronger than men physically," Legolas explained softly. "But our hearts are aged and tired. We've lived long and our spirits are wearied. When an elf can no longer find peace they will sail to the undying lands to heal but they cannot return. It is nice. It sounds like a good place to rest."

Nya waited patiently for him to continue.

"An elf never desires to go there, not at first. We do not wish to leave our people and companions behind. But hearts are broken so easily and innocence is taken too fast."

It's hard for an elf to look tired. They have this constant youthful look to them but as Nya watched him she could see the age in his eyes. The centuries of emotional scarring weighed on the elf's soul like a burden he could never shake.

"The gulls then call to us and after that, we can no longer rest the way we did before." Legolas sighed, his shoulders dropped in defeat but his hands were tightened into fists. "They have sung to me. Like you, my family tethers me here but sometimes I wonder how much longer I can resist without going mad."

What a happy thought. Nya internally grumbled but she could see the wild look in her eyes. While Nya had only been feeling this way for a couple weeks, Legolas could've for much longer.

Nya knew that ignoring the topic wouldn't make it any better so she decided to direct it slightly instead. "Do you have a lover?" Nya asked. She wasn't sure if elves used the terms "dating" or "girlfriend" etc.

Legolas shook his head. "My loved ones are my friends." He looked back fondly at the cave where the others chatted and dozed.

Nya smiled. "You seem close."

"Aragorn is my gwador, " Legolas replied easily in his soft language, the foreign words rolling gracefully off the tongue. "My bond brother. Family in all but blood."

Oh. Nya nodded in understanding. "They are my gwah-doors or whatever too." She flushed as she stumbled over the words.

Legolas laughed. He didn't laugh much, Nya had noticed, he was far too serious. He would quirk his lips in amusement and took joy in teasing his friends but she hadn't seen him laugh. Nya couldn't help but chuckle a little along with him.

"These bonds may seem like..." Legolas hesitated and tried to find the right word.

"Pressure?" Nya offered.

"Yes, like pressure. A weakness." Legolas agreed. "But really they are our greatest strengths. Truthfully I would've given up long before if it wasn't for Estel."

Nya smiled a little as she listened to the quiet laughter. "I'm not sure where I'd be without them."

Legolas returned the expression with a slight turn of the lips. "They care for you greatly."

"They do." Nya was quiet for a moment. The bittersweet tone slowly became suffocating so Nya forced a teasing grin. "Your friends love you too. Gimli is like an angry grandfather."

Legolas let out a long-suffering sigh. "Yes, he is quite stubborn about his opinions. He thinks he knows what's best for me." He grumbled. "And Aragorn is even worse. He mothers me more than the dwarf."

Nya laughed at the annoyance on the usually proper elf but there was joy in his eyes as he spoke about his companions. "We'll get you all back to your home," Nya assured him.

"Hannon le." When Nya looked at him quizzically he translated. "Thank you."

Nya made an 'o' with her mouth before saying, "No problem."

The two sat there in silence, the sounds of the waves pulling them both as they listened to the ocean's song. It reminded Nya that it was all temporary. The joy she felt with her family was already dwindling. Eventually, she would succumb to the sea's calls and let herself be at peace. It was a depressing thought but it was true.

All good things just come to an end. Nya thought. That's just how the cookie crumbles.

Legolas seemed to have noticed the sadness growing inside her because he began to sing softly. The lyrics seemed wordless, floating through the air like nature had become notes. It was beautiful and entrancing, Nya found the smile reappear much brighter than before as the elvish music drowned out the waves.

Just for a few minutes more was freed from the sea.

NOTE****

I love reading Lord of the Rings FanFiction's and I wanted to try some of my own but I just didn't have the time. It's hard to get reads when you write in a new fandom because a lot of your readers are looking for ninjago or whatever you previously wrote in. 😂

I have one though, a small little one-shot called Jests As Sharp As An Arrow. It's nothing much, not that good but it was fun to write.

Anyways, I hope you liked this one-shot. It was sort of sloppy, I'm not sure about it but I thought it was time I finished it. 😂

Legolas heard the call of the gulls in the books (I only know this from FanFiction and fanwiki so I'm not sure how accurate I am) and Nya's pull to the water reminded me of it.

So, an au where Nya stayed but is entranced by the ocean and meets a prissy elf was an interesting crossover idea. I know some of you were probably anticipating something more like Harry Potter or Percy Jackson but this was what inspired me I guess. 😂

I probably won't do more crossovers, it's hard to make good quality crossovers and I don't find myself interested in them. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Anyways, have a nice day!
