Dear diary,
It was three years ago when they met.. It was in my own café. I remember it like yesterday. Violet was visiting and so was Matthew. I'd bought him a plane ticket to come since.. he needed some comforting after.. Kenzie. As for Violet? She surprised me by coming. It.. It was honestly the best timing.
Kenzie and Matthew didn't work out. Jesus, their love story was nothing but attraction. They were together for a while, until Kenzie cheated. Matthew was devastated. I bought him a plane ticket so he could come over. God, I missed him so much back then. I still do.
He always helped out in any way he could and it was adorable how he'd gush over meeting his soulmate.
Anyways..
Violet and Matthew. Soulmates. They met in my café. This is that story.
-----------------------------------------------------------
A light breeze filled the streets. A breeze that was, oh, too familiar to Soya. It was November 22nd and Matthew had come to visit. Soya was turning 20 soon. It wasn't an exciting thing for her. Matthew had just been cheated on and Soya was still trying her best not to fall too deep into her depression. They were both secretly looking forward to it. Hey, who knew, maybe one of them would meet their soulmates.
Matthew secretly hoped that Soya would find hers, but there was one problem with that.
Soya didn't get her ring.
Matthew knew this, he was one of her closest friends.
But despite this, he still held hope.
Maybe, just maybe, it will be this year, Matthew thought, putting his hands onto his head. He quietly muttered, "I hope it's this year."
Just then, the door burst open and a loud screech was heard.
"I'm oNLY NINE-TEEN BUT MY MIND IS OLDER-"
Great. Soya had come back from work. Absolutely perfect.
"Jesus, you could've just knocked!" Matthew said, getting up and walking over to his 'roommate.'
Soya quietly chuckled, "Hey, this is my house, I get to scream if I want."
"Christ, Soya, your neighbors are trying to sleep!"
"And what if I told you I don't care?"
He inhaled deeply before walking away. Soya sat down next to him, plugging in her earbuds and blasting Hamilton at the highest volume level; it was one of her current obsessions. Soya had forced Matthew to listen to it yesterday. He had cried at It's Quiet Uptown and Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story.
Suddenly, he pulled out her earbuds.
"What the hell, Matthew?"
"I think you should turn down the volume. I could hear Burr telling Hamilton to fuck off."
Soya froze. She'd never heard Matthew swear before.
An idea suddenly came into her mind.
"Hey, Matt, come here, I wanna tell you something."
Matthew scooted closer to her, "Yeah?"
She leaned in..
And blew in his ear.
"What the f-"
"Matthew, I don't know who taught you to swear, but I don't like them," Soya said, cutting him off while getting up. "You should come with me to work tomorrow. It's so quiet there already and I think you'd like it," she suggested.
Matthew nodded. "Sure, it's boring here without you anyways."
"Welp, you have the rest of the house for yourself tonight, I promised a friend I'd come over," said Soya.
Matthew pouted, "Aww, really? I was really hoping we could do something."
"Kinky," Soya muttered.
The now flustered Matthew grabbed the nearest couch pillow and threw it at her.
-----------------------------------------------------------
By the time Soya came back home, it was around 3 AM. The house was quiet. Too quiet.
He probably went to sleep, she thought. Well, she'd have to check to find out.
She made her way down the hall, opening all the doors. Once she got to the guest room, there he was. She was correct. Matthew was lying there, sleeping while holding onto Simon Tabby.
"Weird, I thought he hated that thing," Soya whispered to herself as she closed the door.
She made her way to the kitchen and openedthe fridge. She took out a cupcake she'd made earlier.
Soya found a candle and a lighter and stuck on the candle. She then lit it and thought for a while about a wish.
"I wish Matthew would find his soulmate soon. He deserves someone who'll take care of him."
And that was that. She blew out the candle and took a bite. Before she could do anything else, the lights flicked on. Matthew was standing in the doorway, a look of disappointment on his face.
"Wow, come home late and then never tell me you're eating late night snacks. How rude, I thought we were friends," he said, dramatically clutching his heart.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Later that day, Matthew had come with Soya to her café.
She was right, it's so quiet, Matthew thought. Her café was small and there were very little people, yet it was relaxing and quiet. There were three bookshelves in one corner and the walls were painted a teal blue-green. It reminded him of Soya's eyes. They were a teal-ish blue-green, too. There were five tables for solo customers, three tables for small groups of friends, and about ten other tables that seated two people- preferably soulmates. The counters were a honey-brown-ish color with a few displays of cake and other small treats.
This place is so underrated, thought Matthew. He wasn't wrong, it was a perfect place to just relax with friends- or a spouse. Heck, you could even bring in your pets. There was a small glass box on the left hand side of the room where both dog, and cat, treats were displayed. These were homemade. And on top of the glass box was a small cabinet filled with dog bowls. There was another box next to the glass box full of water bottles. A small sign stood next to it that read, 'Take a free bottle.' It hurt to know how Soya still didn't have a soulmate and how there weren't enough people like her in the world.
A voice suddenly snapped Matthew out of his thoughts. "You can just sit at a table while I go to the back room. I need to set everything up before my employees get here," said Soya, already halfway to the back room.
Matthew did what was told 《Note From Tarrii: Good boy, Matthew. Good boy.》and he sat down on a table for solo customers.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Soya came back nearly two hours later.
"Jeez, what took you so long?" Matthew complained. The streets were slowly getting filled with people; soulmates occasionally walking past.
"I had to.. Fix some things," Soya said, trying her best to think of an excuse. She quickly changed the subject as a girl walked out of the back room, clutching a small bag. Soya waved over to her and she approached them.
"Matthew, this is Alaina- She's actually been employe of the month for two years straight," Soya happily exclaimed, Alaina waved at Matthew and gave him a small smile.
"Yeah, Soya, probably because I'm your only employe," Alaina said quietly. She surprisingly didn't have an accent. Alaina took out her hand for him to shake. Matthew, out of habit, glanced at her ring.《NFT: Damn, Matt, that's a bad habit.》 It was black. A small gasp escaped his lips as he glanced up at Alaina 《NFT: ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)》
"S-Sorry, I didn't mean t-"
Alaina cut him off. "Hey, it's okay, things happen and sometimes.. sometimes you just have to work with it." She said quietly. "Anyways, I'll head back to work now.." Said Alaina as she walked sadly back to the back room.
"Her ring turned black ealier this week.. She's only seventeen," Soya said, it was barely a whisper, "The poor thing, she's so sweet, I feel so bad.." Soya muttered as she made her way behind the counter.
Matthew was left there to wonder.
Was it his fault?
Was it his fault for thinking rushing things was okay?
Was it because he was an incubus?
Was it becau-
His thoughts were rudely interrupted by the bell, indicating that a customer had come in. Soya was walking out of the kitchen with two cups of coffee, that she nearly dropped, as she froze on the way to the counter.
"Violet?! My God, is that you?! Christ, it's been so long!" She exclaimed in surprise.
Matthew looked back at 'Violet.' He froze. She was very pretty, Matthew thought. Those thoughts were soon scratched as he thought again. No, she's absolutely gorgeous, the now lovesick Matthew thought. 《NFT: ♩And I was like, "wHAT THE HECK I GOTTA DOOOOOOO TO BE WITH YOU. (What da heck I gotta do)♩》
Suddenly, his ring began to heat up.
Violet sped up to Soya with open arms and a smile plastered on her face. Soya practically ran up to her and gave her a tight hug, "You didn't have to come!"
"Of course I did, it's your birthday and you're, like, the only person who can cook," she said.
"You're kidding."
"I'm being serious."
"Violet, you know I can't take you seriously."
"And I can't take you seriously. You're forgetting that time you lost your shit because of a spider that was two inches long!"
"Still bigger than you'll ever get," Soya replied smugly.
"You disgust me," Violet playfully shoved her.
"Ah, so you've discussed me."
Matthew was already thinking a million thoughts. "Okay, Hamiltrash, I get it." He suddenly said out loud.
"Wow, who's this?" Violet asked as she gestured over to Matthew.
"Oh fuck, I forgot to tell you, this is Matthew, he'll be staying over at my place for a bit."
"Well, nice to meet you, Matthew.." Violet quietly trailed off.
"And this is Violet. ThE INSANELY COOL VIOLET JACKSON!!"
"My God, you're musical trash, okay, I get it." Matthew wondered why he was being seen in public with Soya.
Soya shrugged.
Violet held out her hand for him to shake. Matthew's ring suddenly began to get extremely hot. He ignored the feeling and shook her hand. Then-
That was that. He let go of her hand and jumped back in shock. Matthew looked down at his hand. His ring was no longer golden, but a shiny silver. "Holy fuck," he muttered under his breath.
Soya immediately caught on. She let out a cough and said, "I'll just.. I'll just uhm..." And then there she goes. She left to the back room without a word.
"Uhm, I guess.. You're my soulmate?" Violet mentally face palmed at her question. It was obviou-
"I guess we are, Jackson." Matthew smiled to himself.
"So.. Wanna head back to my place..?" Vioelt asked. He couldn't believe his luck, Soya truely did not have enough appreciatio-
"Kinky." Soya said quite loudly as she poked her head out from the back room.
Soya caught a clump of Violet's flustered face while Matthew pulled out Simon Tabby and threw it at Soya.
