Chapter-4 Psycho Stalker and Serial Killer

Edited 05/08/2017
**************

I was standing by my locker to get my notebooks for English along with my assignment binder. From the corner of my eyes, I saw Samantha and Jessica standing with Anna as she was putting some things in the locker, not too far away from me. They were all laughing at something.

I saw Jessica say something to Anna to which she laughed. Her laughter was clear enough for me to hear. There was this melody in her laugh as if it had a soothing power to it. It was music to my ears. Something inside me moved and the strange thing is I felt myself smiling to her laughter. What I am even thinking???

Samantha saw me looking in their direction. She waved me and started walking towards me.

"Hey Adam.!!! Did you have fun walking home yesterday and building that player's body of yours?" she laughed. Jessica was laughing behind her. Oh! They were talking about my misery!!!!

"Shut up, Samantha. I am not in mood for that. I will get back you. You just wait and watch." I said walking away.

I entered the class and took a seat in the front near the window. Anna entered shortly after, with Ryder. Ryder took the seat behind me and gestured Anna to take the empty seat beside me. She looked hesitated for a moment. Her eyes kept flickering between the empty seat and me as if debating whether she should sit beside me or not.

"It is okay, Ryder. I will just sit somewhere else. Maybe try befriending some girls from class." She turned away. But stopped in mid-way.

Turning back, she smiled at Ryder and said, "But thanks for asking." As soon as her eyes shifted to me and caught me staring, her smile turned into a straight line. What is the problem with her? Is there something on my face? This girl sparks my curiosity. She took a seat next to a girl named Melissa who smiled at her, happy to be sharing a seat with her.

It seems Anna is comfortable talking with everybody else around in the school except me. She talks and laugh with Greg, Jessica, Samantha and even laughs at Ryder's stupid jokes. But as soon as she sees me, her whole body goes rigid. It has been two weeks since she moved here. There is something I can't clearly pinpoint for the reason of the sudden change in her attitude when she sees me.

"Hey, Anna. Wait up!" I called her before she could leave the classroom.

"Oh! Adam. Is there something, I can help you with?" She asked me avoiding my eyes. Every girl in this school loves my eyes and she avoids to look in them. That's a blow to my charming personality.

"Well, Greg is out of town with mom and dad. He usually helps me with physics. But since he is not here, I thought you could help me with some of my questions. Greg told me you are smarter than him." I said. Okay, maybe I am lying a little bit here. I can easily facetime him and ask him or wait for him to return tomorrow but I think if she agrees to this, maybe I can find out about her creepy behaviour towards me.

She was playing with the hem of her shirt. Clearly, hesitant about the idea. "Well, I don't know about it. You can call him and ask anything at home.. We don't have to submit this assignment like right now." She said adjusting the strap of the bag over her shoulder.

"Well, there is this party, I have to go to. So I thought completing the work in library." Another lie here, there is no party. Don't let her catch on that!

"On a school night, on Thursday. I assume, parties are always on Friday or Saturday." She said raising her eyebrow, clearly not buying my lie.

"Did I hear party? Where is party? Isn't it Thursday!" Samantha said, walking towards us. She couldn't have got a better timing.

"Ya Sam! It's Thursday. Apparently, Adam wants my help to finish his physics assignment in library since he has a party to attend to. And Greg is not here to help him." Anna told Samantha. Oh god!

"Which party ?" Samantha asked me.

"Well, it's not a high school party. It is a different kind of party." I told them. Wow, smooth move. I face palmed myself mentally. Different kind of party, I want to jump out of the window in front of me.

Samantha looked at me as if I have grown another head. "Another kind of party, I see." Anna said tapping on her chin.

"Are you into underground fighting or worse, into drugs!!!" Samantha shouted. Everybody turned their heads towards us.

"WHAT THE HELL!!! Couldn't be any louder! How do you come up with such things Samantha?" I face palmed myself but this time literally! I turned to people, who were looking at us.

"Don't you have something better to do. Nobody is on drugs here. Move on with your lives." I said angrily.

"Well, Adam I thought originally, you are some psycho stalker or serial killer when I saw you on that road looking at me, the first day I came in this city in morning." She said laughing.

"Seriously!!!" Samantha joined her too. This is pissing me off.

"Shut up, Sam. And thank you for sharing your precious thoughts about me Anna. So you want to help or not.??" I asked.

"Okay, after school. Meet me up at the library." She said loudly, walking away with Samantha.

As soon as my last class got over, I was outside Anna's art class. There were students coming out and then I spotted her. When she saw me, her eyebrows furrowed together. "I told you to wait in library, not outside my class." People were watching us and I really don't care about it.

"I thought, library isn't perfect place. Mrs. Finn doesn't really like when students are talking. And without talking, you wouldn't be able to explain me anything. So, why not head to some small café or restaurant." I shrugged while saying. Mrs. Finn was really strict about it. She was all sweet woman but when it comes to rules, the woman goes dead serious.

"Is it some indirect way of asking me out? Because if it is, you suck big time." She said raising her eyebrow. What is this girl.??? One time she seems all closed off, avoiding me and now she is comfortably talking with me, more like giving sarcastic comebacks.

"Earth to Adam!" She waved her hand infront of me.

"Sorry, zoned out. And no, it is no indirect way of asking you out. I am not really interested." Well, I wasn't asking her out. I just want to know if she is bipolar or something. No judging me people. It is she whose personality changes.

"Good! Because if you asked I would say no. Now, come on." She started walking away. I was seated in my car while Anna's driver was already waiting for her. I didn't know, she had a personal driver.

We parked infront of small café, called 'Granna's Café'. It was a small shop but the coffee and dessert here were phenomenal. Samantha once told me about it. And it wasn't far away from our locality.

The owner was an old lady who ran this café with her husband. After his husband's death, she took over the business with her daughter helping her. The bell rang as soon as we entered. We took a seat near the window. After placing our order for the coffee, Anna started to take out the books.

"So in which question, do you want my help?" She asked taking out the given assignment sheet from her bag.

I looked at the assignment sheet infront of me. "This ques." I pointed to the question in the paper. I explained her what I was doing but my answer was wrong everytime.

"Here, you should put the value of universal gas constant in calories. See." She started scribbling calculations in my notebook. She showed me her answer. And indeed, that was the correct. She explained me some more question.

"Okay! Let's take a break. You should try the cheese cake here." I placed our order for the cheesecake. "So Anna, do you think my face is disfigured." I asked her. Maybe that's the reason, she always looks away whenever she sees me.

"What are you talking about?" she took the sip of cold coffee infront of her.

"I mean, you are perfectly fine, when talking with others but as soon as you see me, you turn away as if an invisible magnet is repelling you." I said, propping my elbows on the table.

For a second, she turned rigid. Her breathing became erratic. But, she soon found her composure.

"Oh! I believe I told you that I thought you of as a psycho stalker." She said looking outside of the window.

"Oh! Really. Why not try saying the same thing looking in my eyes? I have seen you avoiding my eyes. You know, girls say they are my best feature." Her face was devoid of any expression.

"Well, I don't think that. I think your eyes are creepy shade of slimy green and I am not all those girls. Coming here was a mistake. I should go." She started putting her stuff in her bag.

"Wait, I didn't mean to hurt to you. I ..." words got caught up in my throat. Remind me what I was doing.!!

"I just saw how comfortable you are around others but why not me? And I wanted know" I said holding her wrist in time before she can leave the table. She looked down my hand holding hers.

"Leave me Adam.!!!" She said pinching the bridge of her nose. "Look, the world doesn't revolve around you or your freaking green eyes. There are other people and they have their reason, why poke your nose everywhere. It is not like I mean something to you that you should be caring." She jerked her hand removing it from my grip.

She placed a twenty dollar bill on the table and walked away. I just kept staring at her retreating back. No girl has ever said things like these to me. I know June's scares girl away, but what I know is girls like me. But what she said and the way she said, was what struck my strings.

I looked at the money on the table. I never said her to pay. What did she think!!! Let's go to return it.
