Chapter 2: The Video Message

The Video Message

It had been three days since the cooking disaster and the both of them spent their days cuddling on the couch while a movie rolled off in the background. They ate tons of junk food but worked out to balance it. And being on the beach felt like a daily routine for them now.

Harper sat on the couch in the living room, flipping through the different channels on TV, in hopes of finding something interesting to watch but nothing seemed to perk her interest.

She could use some company right now but sadly, Ethan had to go office for some urgent work. At times like these, she wished for him to be able to work from home all the time. But his law firm required him in the office too.

She threw the remote on the couch, and glanced around the living room, trying to find something useful to do.

The living room was spaciously designed. A three seater leather couch was placed right in the middle of the living room with single seater leather couches on either side of it. A huge plasma TV hung on the wall, opposite to it. On the wall behind the long couch, frames of all different sizes were hung up. Pictures of family and friends were showcased properly in each frame.

She then glanced at the coffee table and saw a camera placed there. She wondered how it got there but then shrugged and picked it up, anyway. That's when a bulb went off in her head.

"I'll make a video message for Ethan," she grinned down at the camera before getting off the couch and heading upstairs to their room.

She pushed open their bedroom door and admired it's interior. The king sized bed was placed in the middle of the room. A TV hung on the wall opposite to the bed. The doors to a closet and a bathroom were right adjacent to each other. A glass sliding door lead the way to a balcony, which faced their backyard. The walls were painted a light shade of purple with different textures on them.

She had personally designed this room, keeping in mind every tiny detail. Ethan did not know about this, and was super impressed upon seeing the room. It was his wedding gift from his beloved wife.

"What now?" she wondered before plopping down on the bed.

She placed the camera on a flat surface, before checking the angles. Straightening her hair with her hands, she looked into the camera lens and smile goofily.

"Hello, Ethan. I know you might be wondering as to what I'm doing right now. But honey, just watch this patiently and you will find out soon," she pulled a cushion from the bed and placed it on her lap, enjoying the feel of the soft fabric on her hand.

"Let me start with telling you a big thank you. Thank you for bumping into me that day, five years ago. Thank you for wanting to be my friend and lastly, thank you for falling in love with me. I know these thank you's aren't enough for what you've done for me but I need to start from somewhere, right?" Harper tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and looked at her hands, resting on the soft cushion.

"You know, our love story has been a total cliché. A new girl moving into town, catching the bad boy's interest and so on. But the only thing different in our case was that I wasn't a newbie, it was you. I wasn't the loner or the nerd, but you were the bad boy. I did not top our class, nor did you. We never had any partner projects assigned together, hell we were never in the same grade. I noticed you in the hallways and you noticed me but we never talked to each other. But somehow, we fell in love.

Thanks to our parents, we stumbled upon each other after years. Remember the day when you entered my Dad's law firm and we bumped into each other. I fell to the ground and so did you. I remember laughing like a retard after that because movies always show that the actor gets a hold of the actress before she can fall to the ground.

When I told you my theory, you laughed as well and we bid goodbye. After that day, we stumbled into each other again, but this time it was me entering your father's interior designing company. Luckily, we had no falls and both of us regained our balance. We smiled at each other before parting ways.

Finally, our parents met up for dinner because they realised that their children were working for each other's company. We met again and this time we talked. We went for a walk after dinner and from then on, our story started." A genuine smile graced her face as the said memory replayed in her head.

Harper shook her head before she would get too lost in her thoughts and spoke once again,
"From the day I met you, you were on my mind. You seemed to have resided in a part of my heart and mind. I couldn't stop thinking about you. I've had a fair share of boyfriends whom I really liked but none of them stood a chance against you.

I fell in love with you, I fell hard. I fell in love with your quirks, with your cooking, with every little thing that you do unknowingly. I love the way you make useless comments in the middle while reading a book. I love how long we can talk for without getting bored or running out of topics. I love the way your touch makes me forget all of my worries." A tear escaped her eye and soon enough, her beautiful face was stained with tears.

After being away from you for almost six months, I realised that you already had my heart, mind, body and soul. I couldn't stay away from you even if I wanted to. I'd die if I ever do that.
Stumbling upon you was fate, becoming your friend was a choice, but baby, falling in love with you was beyond my control."

Harper wiped the tears that stained her cheeks before saving the recording and placing the camera aside.

It felt good to let everything out. She wanted to see his reaction when he would watch it, but that was not going to be possible. She wanted him to see it when they were going to be miles apart. With the thought of Ethan, she laid down on the bed and closed her eyes.
