~The Encounter~
As I was walking back home, I ventured into the desolate streets.
I decided to take a shorter way home to make up for the time lost waiting for the rain to stop.
(I guess another liability of being broke) note the sarcasm.....
My co workers had offered me a ride but I didn't like the look of sympathy in their eyes. I don't know why everyone looks at me like that. I haven't told a single soul about my past or where I'm from. My life here is good but in front of people I still feel exposed, like they know about me.
This is the reason I don't talk to anyone in the office. I don't have any friends there, I spend my free time indulged in my work or some other activities.
I enjoy my alone time, but sometimes I just want someone to listen to me, to take care. Is it too much to ask??
My footsteps echoed in the empty alley, a haunting symphony of solitude. I had been through this alley a few times before as well, but today I had a gut feeling something was off about this place. Although the alley wasn't that long, it was completely enveloped in darkness. There was like a cemented sidewalk or maybe a place where you can sit along the edges, but I Couldn't quite make it in the dark.
The scent of rain-soaked earth hung in the air, creating a sense of enchantment. As I walked further into the alley, I started getting anxious. Holding my breath I kept chanting to myself that I had done this before and that I am a big grown-up girl now.
As I went further, there was a dim light coming from the other end, indicating that I had almost made it, but I could still see little.
While walking fast, my eyes caught something in the dark, something that made me stop in my tracks, I walked closer, It was then that I saw it, nestled in a corner between two brick walls.
A flicker of curiosity danced in my heart as I approached, my footsteps slow and cautious. There, amidst the scattered debris, was a forgotten, old leather-bound book, its pages damp and wrinkled from the rain, but un-harmed.
I knelt down to pick it up, the rough texture of the cover felt cold and clammy against my fingers. As I gingerly opened the pages, the dim light revealed handwritten notes, sketches, and a sense of history that was hidden within its aged parchment.
The book wasn't old, but the owner had made it appear that way, with pages roughened like the coffee-stained crafts kids learn in elementary school. Living with Diana and Daisy, I saw firsthand how they and their mother engaged in those creative activities, giving the book its deliberately aged look. Maybe someone used those tricks on this seemingly old book as well.
The book looked as if I had stumbled upon a forgotten piece of someone's life, their stories, and secrets it held waiting to be unveiled. As I was turning the pages, my fingers stopped on a specific page, a figure who was sketched very neatly, it was in the dark but his face was half covered in light and half in dark.
Beautifully done!
His eyes, a captivating shade of grey-black, held a universe of emotions within their depths. Reflecting both strength and vulnerability, they hinted at a quiet resilience that belied his youthful exterior. Like storm clouds meeting a silver lining, his gaze told stories of wisdom beyond his years, leaving an unforgettable mark on those who looked into the intriguing windows of his soul, very hypnotizing and attractive.
I couldn't seem to move my eyes away from him, he was indeed beautiful. Then I turned the pages some more. I couldn't quite comprehend what it said because of the dim light in the alley, but the line at the end was written in black ink crafted in Bold letters:
"Upon the passing of many a moon, their destinies entwined, and now no force hath power to sunder their connection."
I couldn't read or understand a word. I decided to take it with me, So I could get some more information of this mysterious figure.
I stood up clutching the book to my chest and cleaned it from the outside with some tissues I had in my purse.
As I was standing facing the place where I took the book from, I sensed a presence of someone or something behind me. I don't know why but I couldn't look back, I didn't want to. The hair at the back of my neck stood and my whole body stiffened at that moment. I had a thought of moving towards the next street and never looking back, pretending I didn't notice a thing but then, I found myself turning without my will, and it dawned upon me at that exact moment that it was all too familiar this feeling, the powerful source behind this, it was like a remnant of my dreams more precisely my nightmares and I couldn't run away even if I wanted to.
After many years, today there were flashes of past, and I couldn't comprehend what I felt, I felt numb at that moment. I was too eager to know about my past but was I ready? What if there was something so dark that could envelop my peaceful life?
And As Soon As I turned around there it was..........
