serenade | my 300 follower special
Here's a little shout out to Kirby Morrow! ❤ ️You may not have known it, Kirby, but you have a whole clan of Ninjago fans behind you.
This book is dedicated to Dee_Dee_Mclee . Dee, you don't know how much it means to me that you are such a supportive and amazing best friend. You've been with me for a lot of my WattPad career, cheering me on and going on a vote and comment spree on all the books no one has even read. You were so excited when I announced I was creating Musically Me, since Cole is your favourite :), and you've followed each of my characters through their arcs, redemptions, and stories. You're my biggest fan and I will always be yours.
Now I'm starting to tear up and you know how emotional I get so I gotta stop now.
Here we are. The big proposal. I think it's time to begin.
********
Cole had eaten a whole entire cake in one sitting.
He hadn't meant to! It just happened!
Now you might be thinking, "why is this a surprise?" No one can blame you, Cole does have a bad addiction to the baked treat, but due to his high school sweetheart, and girlfriend, Siena Quince's concern for his health, Cole had been trying to cut back on his cake consumption.
Unfortunately, the master of earth, the most physically strong of the the ninja, a warrior clad in black, has one teeny problem.
He stress eats.
Cole stared at the empty, chocolate-smeared plate with a hallow remorseful expression. He mourned the loss of the beautiful, dark chocolate, mocha cake Siena had stored in the monastery fridge to preserve for Jay's upcoming birthday. Cole sincerely hoped that the chatty brunette would forgive him. It was highly unlikely but he hoped anyways.
"Cole, wHaT hAvE yOu DoNe?!!!" Jay screeched, little feet pounding on the kitchen tile as he snatched the plate that once housed his birthday cake from Cole's chocolate covered fingers.
The rest of the ninja followed, the sound of horrible sobbing catching their attention. Lloyd hissed with a wince at the sight of the blank platter, his eyes dragging to the cold and empty shell of Cole, who sat slumped against the bar.
"Are you okay, Cole?" Lloyd asked tentatively.
"He appears to be having what is called an 'internal, mental break-down'." Zane observed. Kai waved a hand in front of the dark haired young man's face, only to get a blank eyed stare.
"I think Cole's broken." Kai reported with a shrug, stepping back and leaning back against the counter. "Guess we'll just have to buy a new one."
Nya shoved her brother with a dirty look. "Kai!"
"Wha-at?" Kai whined, rubbing his shoulder with a pout.
"I believe that fixing our friend is a better option." Zane told the master of fire with an arched eyebrow.
Kai sighed and spun one of the bar stools around, straddling it with an exaggerated huff. "Alright, Cole, tell us all your woes. Also if Siena kills you for eating her entire cake, can I have your laptop?"
"Siena." Cole sighed, turning in his seat, away from the counter, his shoulders falling sadly. "She's so beautiful."
Jay paused his effort at licking the leftover crumbs from the cake plate. "....should we call 9-1-1?"
"Cole..." Nya said gently, crouching in front of him like she was talking to a child. "Did something happen between you and Siena?"
"Yes." Cole nodded solemnly. They all waited expectantly. "We fell in love."
Kai groaned, turning back forwards with an eye roll. "This is ridiculous."
"Shut up, Kai!" Jay retorted, plate long forgotten as he tossed it carelessly to Lloyd who scrambled to catch it. "I think something serious wrong!" He came up beside his girlfriend and shook Cole's shoulder.
"SNAP OUT OF IT!" He screamed in the raven's ear.
Cole jerked from the noise, almost falling off the chair as one hand covered his ear and the other shoved the master of lightning back into Nya's arms. "OW! Jay! What the heck, you butt-head!"
"He's okay now." Jay levered himself out of the trust fall position and marched himself over to Cole. "Now what's going on?" He demanded.
Cole rubbed the space between his eyes, tiredly. "I was up all night thinking of ways to propose to Siena." He sighed, hand reaching in his pocket for the ring. Cole's eyes widened and he felt panic rise when he didn't feel anything.
"Oh my first Spinjitzu master." Cole began rapidly searching all his pockets frantically.
"Are you serious? You lost the ring?" Kai exclaimed at the same time that Jay said: "You're going to propose?"
"None of that's important unless I find the ring!" Cole's voice rose higher, cracking as he began to scramble around on his hands and knees.
The team immediately began to look around. "Okay, guys." Lloyd said in his green ninja voice. "Let's spread out and check all the places Cole could have lost it."
"What did Cole lose?"
"Fried French onions." Jay muttered under his breath as they all spun around to stare wide eyed at the person who entered through the doorway. Siena set her bag down, smiling innocently at the guilty looking ninja as she strolled inside.
"Everything okay?" She questioned.
Cole felt like he swallowed his tongue. She looked beautiful. Siena had dressed in semi-formal for their date night, a high-neck grey dress that hugged her figure beautifully. Her music note necklace that she always wore hanging over her neck. Her hair gorgeous blonde was done in a low messy at the base of her neck and she had on the bracelet Cole had given her for his birthday. Contacts in her eyes allowing her bright blue eyes to entrance him.
"Can I help look?" Siena brushed back her hair, bending down to peer under furniture.
"No!" Cole burst out, eyes panicked.
He coughed when Siena gave him a funny look. "I mean, no. It's...not important. I'm sure the others can look for it as quickly as they can." Cole sent them a pointed look over Siena's shoulder as he began to usher her away. "While Nya helps you with her very important thing."
Nya's eyebrows flew up. "My what?"
"Your very important thing." Cole hissed through clenched teeth.
Siena's brow furrowed as she tried to work out why her boyfriend was being weird. Nya's mouth formed an 'o' and she got to her feet, taking Siena by the shoulders and steering her away. "Yes, my very important and time consuming thing. This may take awhile but the boys better get on with it quickly."
Siena didn't have time to protest as Nya pushed her into the hallway, before shutting the door, mouthing "you owe me" to Cole. The ninja jumped as the door slammed shut.
They all waited, frozen, listening for the soft footsteps to fade away. When the click of Nya's door sounded they leaped into action.
Cole spun quickly on his heel, hands raking through his already messy black hair as he quickly paced the room. "Alright, we have to find the ring now!"
"Zane and Jay, you take the living room." Lloyd instructed. "Kai and I will search the hallway and, Cole, you look anywhere else it could be."
They all nodded seriously before quickly splitting up, making haste as Jay leaped onto the couch and began tearing at the cushions. Zane followed at a slower pace, letting out a very slow exhale as Jay got his foot stick in between the couches.
Lloyd dragged Kai away from the spoon he had raised to look at his reflection, pulling him as quietly as possible into the hall while Cole tried to retrace his steps.
-💍-
Nya puttered around the room, trying to figure out what "very important thing" she needed Siena to do while the boys located the ring. Siena followed, glancing with a perplexed expression back at the door.
"Is...Cole okay?" Siena asked carefully.
"Hm? Cole? Oh yeah, he's fine. Just a little crazy." Nya suppressed a snort.
Crazy in love with you.
Siena didn't appear convinced. "He was being really weird back there. Is he...mad at me?" She said the last few words tentatively.
Nya smiled, a gentle reassuring smile. The kind that made you feel calm and warm, like she was absolutely confident with her answer. Nya took the blonde by the hands and gently pulled her onto the bed. They both sat there facing each other.
"Cole is perfectly fine. Boys always have this weird phase where they act all kooky." Nya waved a hand flippantly. "And Cole isn't mad at you. In fact, he's the exact opposite. He is so stupid in love with you. The idiot is head over heels. I swear you changed that oaf somehow!"
Siena laughed. Shaking her head before she pulled away and stood. "Thanks Nya."
"No prob."
Siena brushed her hands off on her skirt and looked around. "Now what do you need?"
Nya blinked. "What?"
"That very important thing, what is it?" Siena elaborated.
Nya coughed. "Right. The very important..." She glanced around. "Pimple!"
Siena's eyebrows knit together. "I'm sorry?"
"Yes... I am having a bad pimple problem." Nya nodded a little too much. Standing and grabbing the skin care magazine she had on her bed. "And...I heard that your mom does skin stuff so I thought you could help."
Siena narrowed her eyes at Nya's forehead. "I don't see any pimples. In fact, you have very nice clear skin."
"Aw! Thank you." Nya smiled, feeling flattered. But it dropped when she pulled herself back to the plan. "I mean, no! They are there! I assure you, I have....invisible pimples."
Nya turned to her wall mirror, brushing back her hair in attempt to scavenge for acne around her hair line. She internally grumbled when she came up with none. Honestly, they pop up when she's going to Jay's parents for dinner but disappear when she makes a weird zit excuse.
"Alright." Siena couldn't hide the confusion in her voice as she took Nya's magazine. "So, what is your skin care routine currently?"
-💍-
"Jay..." Zane sighed as he walked over to where the short boy was struggling to get out of the garbage can. He took the brunette by the armpits and heaved him up. Jay sighed with relief a he was plopped on the ground.
"Thanks, Zane!" Jay brushed himself off. "Well, the rings not in there!"
Zane raised his eyebrows. "So, the ring isn't in the previously closed waste deposit."
"Come on, Zane, you gotta help me out here." Jay began to crawl under the table. Zane grimaced as Jay began to crash into chairs and table legs. The furniture moving as he yelped.
-💍-
"Kai, are you serious?" Lloyd said in exasperation as Kai simply lounged on the chair instead of helping.
"What?" Kai whined. "What am I doing?"
"You're supposed to be helping!" Lloyd peered into corners. The boy quickly drew back though and shuddered. Cole's old room was a dark and scary place.
"GUYS! I found it!" Cole came stampeding in, a crazy grin on his face as he held the tiny box in his hands.
Lloyd let out a phew as he stood. "Where was it?" Cole reddened, looking a little embarrassed.
"What?" Lloyd narrowed his eyes. "Cole..."
"Ew! Is it wet?!!" Kai shrieked.
"COLE!"
"The ring's still clean!"
-💍-
Siena suppressed an irritated exhale as she slumped in Nya's bean bag. The girl was droning on and on, something she didn't usually do, about unimportant things on skin care. Siena kicked her feet at the floor rug. All she had wanted was a nice date night. She glanced as discreetly as she could at the time. It had been twenty five minutes.
Nya was panicking. She could only talk about exfoliants for so long. Which was why she was so happy when Cole opened the door.
"Hey, Si." Cole gave a charismatic smile. "Ready to go on that date?"
-💍-
Siena felt giddy as she swung their clasped hands. They had a nice dinner after the lovely movie and she was in happy spirits. She had been feeling pretty stressed with her career and working out everything in her life. A nice night with Cole was exactly what she needed. She frowned slightly when Cole brought her to the side of the monastery. It was a quiet evening, everything serene and calm. Siena gazed at all the pretty flowers and greenery while her boyfriend guided her to the perfect spot. There in the clearing was a bench. Siena tilted her head, her eyes dragging to where Cole's guitar case was propped against the bench.
Cole guided her to the bench and she sat down. "Cole..."
"Just wait." Cole's cupped her chin, his thumb stroking her cheek, she couldn't help but lean into it and trust him. Her eyes getting lost in his.
Cole sat down beside her, turning so he faced Siena, and picking up the guitar case. He opened it up and pulled out his acoustic guitar. Siena's mouth opened slightly as he began to pluck a few notes. Hands positioning into chords.
"What is this?" Siena breathed, a smile growing.
"Can't I serenade to my girl?" Cole teased, her eyes widened with surprise as he began to sing.
"I never knew that my life could change, the ways of fate are so strange. Your voice like a song, your heart so strong, oh how could I have known that we would belong together?" Cole began to sing, his voice deep and soft. "Cupid's arrow struck me straight and true, couldn't help but fall for you. You're at the end of the winding path, the cure to life's haunted wrath."
Fingers picking at the strings, the pad of this thumb starting to strum as he launched into the chorus. "You're the sun on a cloudy day, the dream that will always stay, the hero in my fairytale, my beautiful, beautiful nightingale. The warm fire on a cold, cold night, the stars that make the darkness bright, the wind that helps my boat set sail, my beautiful, beautiful nightingale."
Siena felt wonder spread through her, like a wildfire in her soul as his words played for her heart, love in her eyes as she stared at him.
"I've been stuck in the dark before. But you came and opened the door. The light came pouring in. You're the goodness to my greatest sin." Cole's foot tapped on the ground, his eyes barely leaving hers for a second, even when he had to glance at the neck of the guitar to see where to place his fingers.
"You're my oxygen that helps me breath. The joy that makes me feel complete." Cole hummed softly, the sounds coming from his guitar, from his mouth, carrying in the breeze. "The very thing that I never want to fail, my beautiful, beautiful nightingale."
"The air that helps the bird take flight, the burn that makes the warriors fight. The beacon of hope that lights the way, the rising sun of a new day. My security, my safety rail. My beautiful, beautiful nightingale."
"And even in the darkest days, you're the one that always stays. You're voice is what guides me through the terrors that try to stop you." His eyes briefly closed as his voice raised higher. "You're the spark that lights the fire, my one and only desire. You're the solution to my biggest mistake! The muse to my serenade! You're the peace that calms the babies wail, my beautiful, beautiful nightingale."
The music seemed to stop.
"My beautiful, beautiful nightingale..." Cole sang softly.
Cole slowed his notes looking deep in her eyes. "You're what keeps me going. The river of love just keeps flowing. You're my love, my life. I love you, Siena, will you be my wife?" Siena's breath hitched.
Cole pulled the strings, the last few notes radiating out, Siena gasped as he pulled out a small piece of jewellery. "Siena...." He said so quietly, and so carefully. "Will you marry me?"
A hand flew to her mouth, her chest heaving as Siena choked on a sob. "Oh my god." She breathed as Cole set down the guitar and got down on one knee. Tears brimming in her eyes, a strangled noise releasing from her mouth. "Oh my god, yes! Yes, yes, yes!"
-💍-
"What's happening?" Jay whispered from his position on Kai's shoulders. They were all spying through the window, trying to figure out what they were saying from inside the building.
They watched as she nodded frantically, and tackled Cole around the neck.
"She said yes!" Lloyd cheered.
"YES!!!"
"WHOOHOO!"
The room erupted in hoots and howls of celebration. As the ninja leaped around like animals in excitement.
-💍-
"I love you so much." Siena whispered into her boyfriend- no, her fiancé's shoulder.
Cole closed his eyes and embraced her tighter. "I love you too." He nuzzled into her hair, turning to kiss the side of her head.
She pulled back, meeting his lips with hers. They kissed tenderly before Cole retracted, holding the ring to her.
"Don't worry I cleaned it." He murmured.
Siena gave him a funny look. "What?"
"Nothing." Cole focused on slipping the very well cleaned ring onto her finger.
"Me and you." Cole whispered.
Siena cupped his face. "Always." She closed the space between them once more, eyes fluttering closed as his arms pulled her into him.
"My beautiful, beautiful nightingale."
authors note*****
Good grief, this isn't natural. *wipes eyes.*
Oh my gosh, it finally happened. At 8:17 in the morning on December 30th. I have finished Siena and Cole's proposal.
These characters mean so much to me. Musically Me is a flawed and rough book but it was my first book on WattPad to start to get popular. Siena is that deepest insecurity in me and as I built her character my confidence strengthened as well. In some way each of my ninja OC's are apart of me. Reagan is my regrets, Siena is about overcoming doubt, Gwen is the crazy side of me, and Isla is my fierceness to protect, and all that sass I wish I had the courage to do.
Thank you readers for being so amazing, being by my side as I started this. Musically Me represents my entrance into the Ninjago fandom and it officially changed my life. Thank you to all those who've supported me, offered amazing encouragement, and been there for me.
I was going to do a thanks to my first commenter but it was Dee and she was commenting on a grammar mistake. XD. Thanks Dee. In her defence I asked in the part to tell me if there were any typos.
I'm both sad and excited about what this represents, though I plan on making Cole and Siena's wedding, this sort of marks the end of the story and the start of the next chapter. It's sort of a bitter-sweet feel that makes me both excited, nervous, and a little sad.
I'm very pleased with how Cole's song came out. I had no idea where it was going. I hope you all enjoyed it as well.
Thank you all, nightingales.
