Chapter 4

"Is that the new Alpha and Beta that are living with us for the time being?" my eleven-year-old cousin asked when I walked into the dining room with both Seraphina and Ginny behind me. Curiosity shone in his gray eyes, and for a moment, he reminded me more of my cousin when she was following her path as a TruthSeeker.

"No, they're just some random females that we picked up from the side of the street," Jayden said sarcastically. "Yes, they are. Who do you think they were?"

Bryson looked at Jayden with a serious expression that sent his six-year-old sister into a fit of giggles. He sent her an annoyed look before he looked back at Jayden, just as serious as he was. "I thought that you had picked them up from the street," he said in all seriousness that I couldn't help but smile. "I mean, it wouldn't be the first time you had done that." He gave Jayden a pointed look.

Jayden's eyes grew wide, and his face became paler than a ghost while Bryson smirked. "Oh no, Little Man," he said, shaking his head. He took a step back and held up his hands in surrender. "I had not done that, and you know it."

Bryson shrugged his shoulder and started to eat again. "I know," he replied after he finished another bite. "But it is fun to watch you squirm." He grinned innocently, earning a snort from Ginny and a scowl from my Beta.

"I think I like you, Little Man," Ginny said, grinning, and he looked at her. She was amused, I could tell, and I was sure that Bryson was amused as well. "My name's Ginny. What's yours?"

"Bryson," he replied, smiling. He gestured to his half-sister, who watched them with bright blue eyes filled with amusement. "That's my sister, Maya."

Maya waved her hand at the two new females while she took a bite of her food. She didn't say a word while she smiled, but that didn't seem to bother Ginny. Her mouth was full of food anyway, and I did not need to see "already been chewed" food before I had eaten.

"Awwww," Ginny squealed, and both Bryson and Maya raised an eyebrow at her. "You look like a miniature mixture of both your mother and your father. Do you know that?" She cocked her head and studied my sister. "I mean, you have the same eyes as your dad and the same hair as your mom."

"I know," Maya replied, grinning after she was finished with her mouthful. "And I have my mother's "'tude" as my uncles like to point out." She shrugged her shoulder and took another bite of her food. "I don't know what they are talking about," she said, talking with her mouth full of food. "I'm an angel."

I wrinkled my nose in disgust, earning a laugh from Ginny. "You are not an angel," I said, and Maya looked at me and grinned. I gave her a pointed look, and her grin became wider. "And you know it."

Maya shrugged her shoulder and finished the food in her mouth. She took a sip of her drink before she cleared her throat. "What is the saying that Mom had made up?" she asked while she cocked her head. "'I am the Devil turned Angel. Don't be afraid of me; be afraid of the hell that I bring?'"

"Yes," Cass said, walking into the dining room with Xavier behind her. Her hair was a mess, and so were her clothes, and I had a feeling that they had made out because Xavier looked as bad as she did. "That is what I had made up a long time ago. I am glad that you had picked it up from me, Maya."

"I'm not," I mumbled, teasingly, earning a glare from my cousin. "I mean, I have to deal with one, Cass; I don't know if I can deal with another one."

"Well, you have to," Cass and Maya said in unison. "So suck it up, Boy." They stuck their tongues at me, and I rolled my eyes before I looked at Xaver, jabbing my head towards Cass, wondering what he saw in her.

Xavier shrugged his shoulder and watched, amused. His hair was just as messed up as hers, and he made no move to fix it. "You'll get used to it," he replied, and Ginny covered a laugh with a cough. "I have."

I gave him a weird look, and Cass laughed because I knew how she acted because I was a family member to her. I had known her since I was in diapers, as she liked to point out every other time. "You know that I've spent more time with her, right?" I asked.

"Well, I knew her first, so..." He shrugged. "She was just like this when we were younger. I don't know how many times she ran by my cell, laughing because she had pranked either her siblings or the other Guardsmen."

"A lot," Cass replied. She smiled and tucked herself next to her second chance mate. Her eyes were filled with love and pure adoration, and Xavier looked at her the same way. "Who knew that the boy in the cell would become the love of my life," she mumbled while she placed a kiss on his lips.

Bryson and Maya gagged, and they pulled away and looked at their children, amused. "You don't need to do that in front of us," they said. They had their eyes covered and disgusted looks on their faces.

"We don't need to, but we want to," Cass replied. She stuck her tongue at her kids, and they stuck their tongues back at her.

"We're going to go take Seraphina and Ginny to where their pack is," Jayden said, "before you two can start making out further. I don't think that they don't need to see that yet, especially since they are visiting guests."

Cass rolled her eyes at Jayden. "Go ahead and go. Afterward, get something to eat, both of you, before your training." She gave me a pointed look, and I smiled innocently. "You especially, Tobias Jones."

I shrugged. "I know," I replied. I bit back a groan of dread because I knew that I would have a rough day today. I glanced at the two females and saw that Seraphina was already looking at me before she looked away when she saw that I was staring. "Come on," I said, ignoring the feeling of annoyance. "It won't take long to get you settled."

Ginny smiled and nodded. "Yes, Alpha," she said. "Thank you. I really appreciate the help that we have been given during this hard time."

I nodded my head in response and started to walk outside with them, following me.

"Bye, kids," Ginny yelled, and I had a feeling that they had gotten a friend for life.

"Bye!" they exclaimed. "See you soon!"

"Oh, you can count on that."

At least someone was going to enjoy their time here. I just hoped my mate would slowly learn to accept the help that we had offered her and prayed that she would let me in.

However, I knew that was going to be a lot to ask, especially to a female that didn't have that good experience with Alphas and those abusing their powers.
