Chapter 18
As soon as Charlie finished taking some of my blood, he leaned back on his heels and bowed his head before he looked at me with a small smile on his face. "I will go ahead and take this to Sergio," he said and cleared his throat, shifting on his feet. "He will give this to Dr. Trent and we will get you some meds for you to help control your Vengeance."
I breathed a small sigh of relief and slowly nodded, feeling grateful that they would be able to help me. "Ok," I said. "Thank you, Charlie."
Charlie smiled and nodded. "Of course," he said and cleared his throat, growing serious. "Will you need something else from me?" he asked and raised an eyebrow in question, and I shook my head no. "Good, then go ahead and eat before you find your cousin. I will give this to Sergio and eat myself. Are you going to watch me and Cass fight?"
I nodded in confirmation and bit the inside of my lip. "She said that we can fight, too, but I don't want her to get too tired and sore."
My cousin bit back a small laugh, amused, and mentally shook her head. 'I will be fine,' she said with another laugh in her voice. 'You don't need to worry about me, TJ. I will be fine if you need to fight as soon as I am done fighting Charlie. Ok?' She mentally raised an eyebrow in question.
I breathed a small sigh of relief. 'Ok,' I said, my voice barely above a whisper and mentally nodded, grateful that she would do that for me, even though I knew that she would have done it anyway. 'Thank you, Cass. I do appreciate it.'
'Of course,' she said and mentally nodded with a small chuckle. 'I will do anything for you, and you should know that by now.' She mentally winked with a small smirk on her face. 'Us children of Vengeance have to stay close together and keep an eye on each other to make sure we don't succumb to the darkness of it.'
I bit back a small smile and mentally nodded. 'Thank you, Cass,' I said softly. 'I hope that I will be able to repay you one of these days, a-'
'And you already have,' Cass said, interrupting me while she shook her head. 'You and your sister are still the reasons why I am still alive and had the confidence to leave the pack.' She cleared her throat and grew serious. 'There... are some things that I have been hiding from you and your sister that had to deal with Camen, and ya...' She trailed off and became uncomfortable.
I frowned and worry and curiosity filled my whole body, and the hair on the back of my neck while I silently wondered what happened and what she was talking about. I could tell that she felt guilty about what happened and that she wanted to tell me but didn't know how.
Charlie raised an eyebrow in question and cocked his head. "What is it?" he asked while he studied me with a small frown on his face. "What are you thinking about?"
I shrugged and grimaced, pressing my lips into a thin line. "Cass told me that she had been hiding something from Clara and me," I replied, "but she hasn't told me what it was."
Charlie nodded and set his jaw, pressing his lips into a thin line. He didn't say a word, and I could tell that he knew what had happened and what my cousin was hiding from us.
"You know," I said in a way that wasn't accusing but stating the obvious, and Charlie nodded in confirmation. "What is she hiding from me?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question.
Charlie bit back a small smile and shook his head. "That is something that I can not tell you," Charlie said and shook his head. He cleared his throat and shifted on his feet. "Now, come on and let's get you something to eat. Sergio is waiting in the dining room for us, and I think he is already eating something while May is doing something else."
I bit back a small chuckle and slowly nodded before I stood. "I hope that he has left stuff for me," I said with a small grumble in her voice. "I don't want Cosette to have to cook something else for me to eat."
'Or you can cook yourself and Charlie something,' my cousin teased, and I mentally rolled my eyes and pressed my lips into a thin line. My cousin snickered, amused. 'Or make Charlie cook for you. He wouldn't mind.'
The sad smile that was on Charlie's face fell a little and was replaced with a small scowl, and I had a feeling that she said something to him that I couldn't hear. "Come on, T, let's go ahead and make sure that there is food for you because I am not going to do what she suggested."
"And what is that?" I asked, biting back a small laugh. I stood and started to walk to the door with Charlie following me. "Did she tell you to cook him?" I asked while I raised an eyebrow in question and looked at him from the corner of my eye. "And feed him to me?"
Charlie smirked and tucked his head closer to his chest. Amusement filled his eyes, and he cleared his throat. "Something like that," he said with a small hum in his voice, and the smirk grew wider when Sergio said something to him. "Sergio did promise that he wasn't going to eat everything, so he doesn't have to be cooked to be fed to you. He's left enough food for both of us."
I nodded and bit back a small sigh of relief, even though I wasn't really that worried and knew that Cosette would have cooked us something that she would have made sure that Sergio wouldn't have taken just to make sure that we had eaten.
'And then we will fight,' Cass said and mentally nodded. 'We will fight before w-'
'No,' I said, interrupting her because I knew that she was going to say that both of us would fight before she fought Charlie with a small shake of my head. 'You will fight with Charlie before we have to fight. I know that you want to get more of your pent up frustration out on him, so you can go ahead and do that.' I paused and cleared my throat while I licked my lips. 'I will be fine if we have to wait a bit longer to fight so that you can do it.'
My cousin breathed a small sigh of relief and mentally nodded, and it felt as if I had taken some of the weight off of her shoulders because I was going to let her fight him first when she wanted to take care of me. 'Thank you, T,' she said, her voice barely above a whisper. 'I do appreciate it a lot, and I hope that you won't be feeling guilty after all of this because I will not be tired at all. You have my word.'
But why did it feel like that would be a lie..?
