Chapter Six

'You're a cheater,' Hermione said out loud in her bedroom.

The floor of the room was littered with both of their clothes, looking as though a couple actually lived here. A couple... All Fred and Hermione had been doing this entire time was fighting. Hermione refused to pick up his clothes of the floor and Fred refused to stop creating a mess. A mess with his clothes and a mess in their married lives.

Heaving herself onto the messy bed, Hermione groaned loudly. The window was open and the bloody birds were singing happily as though her marriage wasn't in jeopardy. Did she even care that her marriage was about to end? Did she care she wouldn't be married to a mean drunk? No, she did not. She did care, however, that she would be losing Fred Weasley; the love of her life.

Hermione drew her knees up to her chest and rested her chin on her knees. Now she really looked like a crazy person amidst the ruins of her marriage. The only thing to bring her out of her disappointed state was when her home phone started to ring.

Hermione thought about just letting it go to voicemail but couldn't stand the incessant ringing. She frowned and got up, answering the phone.

'Dad is here,' Amelia's voice stated, 'come over.'

'What? Fred is supposed to be at work,' Hermione murmured and then realised a bit too late that Amelia had hung up the phone.

She shook her head, thinking about how rude her daughter could be sometimes. Until she felt the pain of birth and carried a baby inside herself for nine months while everyone else was against her illegitimate child... No, Hermione wouldn't wish that on her daughter.

'Terrible cheating wife. Equally terrible mother,' Hermione told the phone before putting it down and apparating straight into her daughter's apartment.

The scene that unfolded in front of her was not as bad as she had thought it would be. Fred sat on the armchair, directly in front of a nervous looking Scorpius. Amelia stood, too anxious to sit down, and watched the two of them.

'Fred, love...' Hermione moved over to him, hoping that he wasn't drunk.

Fred glared at her, 'love? I think we're past that stage, Hermione.'

Mia, Hermione thought, desperately wanting to hear that nickname from his mouth.

'You didn't have to call her here,' Fred told his daughter.

'Well, you're just sitting there and staring at my fiancé,' Amelia stated, ignoring the fact that Fred cringed at the last word, 'and from previous events, this usually doesn't end very well.'

'I came here to tell you that... Amelia, you are the best thing to ever happen to me,' Fred said, standing up and moving to hug his daughter.

Hermione stood there, feeling redundant and developing an ache in her chest. She thought of the first time they had been together and how they had made Amelia and everything they had been through... He was the best thing to happen to her and she would never go back and be with Ron. She loved Fred.

'Then be happy for me,' Amelia said quietly, sounding like a child asking for a toy as she hugged her father.

'Are you sure about this? I just want you to think about it. Don't make my mistakes,' Fred told her.

Hermione stared at him, 'excuse me?'

'Shut up,' Fred stated, frowning back at her, 'I'm talking to my daughter, not you.'

'She's my daughter too,' Hermione shot back, feeling her temper start to rise. How dare he...

Amelia looked between them and sighed, 'please, stop fighting. You two are acting like children. Mum... just stop it. Dad, I am one hundred percent sure that I want to marry Scorpius. I am so in love with him and always will be. Please, please... just be happy for me.'

'If he hurts you, I'll hurt him double,' Fred told her, leaning down to kiss her forehead.

'Fair enough,' Scorpius nodded, 'but I won't hurt her.'

Amelia smiled and hugged Fred, finally feeling happy that she had both of her parents on her side now even if they were fighting.

'Well, I have a wedding to plan and I guess, I'm not needed here,' Hermione said quietly before closing her eyes and disapparating before they could stop her.

---

Hermione clenched her coat tighter around herself as she carried the folder with her plans for Amelia's wedding. She and Draco were planning on checking out venues before picking a few and letting Amelia decide.

'If you don't take my hand, we can't disapparate together,' Draco smirked at her and leaned forwards to tuck a strand of her hair into her winter hat.

Hermione sighed and grabbed his hand, closing her eyes. Draco looked at her for a second, thinking she wasn't as fun as she normally was. He sighed and apparated them to an outdoor venue. He opened his eyes and barely glanced at the beautiful sea side view and the ground that was covered in snow but would look amazing in the summer. He turned his attention to Hermione, letting her look at the venue instead.

'Is it your loser husband that put you in a bad mood this morning?' Draco asked, following her around as she checked the place out.

'He's not a loser. I love him,' Hermione said coldly.

'No, you don't. You love me,' Draco said arrogantly, narrowly avoiding walking into some piled up snow. He dodged to the side, getting closer to her.

Hermione didn't look at him as she took notes about the place, wondering if Amelia would like this venue, 'I've never told you I loved you.'

'You don't have to say it. I can read your mind,' Draco looked serious, putting his hand on her back.

Hermione finally glanced at him for a brief second and murmured, 'what do I want right now?'

'My lips.'

'Wow, you can read minds!' Hermione said sarcastically and pulled away when Draco leaned in for a kiss, 'sarcasm, Malfoy.'

'Hmm... one day you'll give in. It's just a shame we're getting old. We could have had a perfect, rich life together,' Draco told her, 'you, and me, no kids. Bed all day... food whenever we want it... no clothes... it would have been perfect.'

Hermione tried to ignore him, feeling her heart ache. If she hadn't been with Fred, her life would be incomplete but now... she did like Draco, she wanted him but she couldn't. Firstly, she was married which should be reason enough and secondly, her daughter was marrying his son!

'... and a bigger guy than Weasel and a pool that we could swim in, definitely,' Draco grinned, 'too bad you married the wrong guy.'

'A bigger...? Draco, shush. Focus,' Hermione blushed slightly and grabbed his hand, 'to the next venue.'

Draco donned his face with his legendary smirk and did as she told, apparating them to different venues. Hermione had to force him to concentrate and tell her his thoughts about all the places they were visiting but Draco didn't care. He was only here because this way he could spend time with her. He was thankful when the last venue had been seen and they could stop.

'This is exactly like going shoe shopping with women,' Draco stated, groaning as he slung his arm over Hermione's shoulder and looked at her lips rather than her eyes as she talked.

'Let's go to your place and sit down in a warm room,' Hermione murmured as she tried to warm herself, 'and you can tell me which venues you like as soon as you stop staring at my lips.'

'Oh, back to my place, eh, Granger?' Draco smirked and grabbed her hand, 'I won't say no to that!'

'Draco!' Hermione chuckled but was thankful when he apparated them into his living room. She opened her eyes and her mouth fell open too, 'wow...'

'Like, I said, we could be rich and happy,' Draco grinned as he used magic to light the fireplace.

Hermione was too busy staring at all the extravagance of his living room to answer back. The ceiling was a dark green with chandeliers illuminating the big room. The walls were black but had many very expensive looking paintings to decorate it. Hermione plopped down onto a sofa and groaned in pleasure since it was so comfy. Money really could buy everything luxurious.

Hermione jumped slightly when Draco sat down next to her. Next to her as in leaving no space between their bodies. She looked at all the sofa space beside him and then the arm of the sofa to her right, shaking her head, 'you're suffocating me.'

'Good,' Draco grinned, 'you said you were cold so I'm just warming you up. Be grateful for once.'

Hermione smiled at him, feeling her heart lift slightly. It must be his personality or attitude when he's with her, it seemed to always put her in a good mood but she guessed it did get annoying when he acted arrogant and said all those comments. Without those comments, he wouldn't be Draco Malfoy though.

'Thinking about kissing me?' Draco asked, looking down at her as he put his arm around her.

'Nope,' Hermione shook her head, 'I think I should take my coat off... The snow is getting on your gorgeous sofa.'

'Yeah, you should,' Draco said and watched her get up. Hermione shed her coat and Draco patted his sofa clean before she sat down again. Before she could help it, she hugged him, nuzzling her face in his chest as Draco chuckled, 'I knew you'd give in.'

'It has been a long time since I've had arms around me,' Hermione murmured into his chest, thinking he smelled the same as when he had walked past her in the corridor many moons ago in Hogwarts... minus the teenage boy sweat.

Who would have thought that she would be sitting on Draco Malfoy's extravagant sofa, cuddled up to him as she planned her daughter's wedding? Life was a rollercoaster and she wasn't sure if it was taking her the right way but she could only go ahead, right? If Fred wouldn't give her comfort and Draco would then... it was simple, wasn't it?

No, it really wasn't.

'Well, Weasel is missing out,' Draco shrugged and looked at her, 'I love you.'

'Shush, you can't say that,' Hermione pulled away.

Draco grabbed her hand, 'I know. It's so stupid, you're such a know-it-all but oh, I love you so much. You're all I thought about these past few years and you're right, I was lonely.'

Hermione entwined their fingers and looked at him, seeing how difficult it was for him to say all this and actually be serious for once, 'you never dated?'

'Pfft, no. Women are all crazy,' Draco rolled his eyes.

'I'm crazy too then. You don't want me,' Hermione murmured.

Draco just stared at her, 'I confessed my love to you. If this was a movie or a book, you'd be mine already. Girls can't resist this.'

Hermione kept her mouth shut and opened the folder, starting to sort through the different venue notes that she had taken. She bit her lip briefly when Draco put his hand on her thigh and leaned in closer to her as if he wanted to see the notes but Hermione knew better.

Draco looked at her, 'close it.'

Hermione obliged and put the folder on the table before pulling back and putting her hand on his shoulder, looking into those grey orbs, 'Draco...'

Draco leaned in and kissed her, all he wanted was a kiss since the start of the afternoon and he had been lonely. No amount of girls could make him less lonely, only Hermione could do that. He sighed when Hermione pulled away, 'predictable.'

'Why can't you understand that I'm married?' Hermione groaned and stood up, grabbing her folder, 'you can't just kiss me all the time!'

'You're the one who's hugging me and telling me you want my arms around you,' Draco stood up, frowning at her, 'and you want me. Sure, it's not the normal way of doing things. It's supposed to be the way it is for everyone else, right? Get married, have kids, live happily ever after-'

'Not cheat on my husband! Yes, that is the way it should be!' Hermione scowled at him and moved over to hit his chest, 'you keep getting in my way! I want my daughter to get married so I don't have to be around you all the time.'

'You're in love with me. You can't stay away from me,' Draco told her, grabbing her arm and pulling her closer, 'we could have had everything and we still can. Be with me.'

'I can't, Draco!'

'But you want to!' Draco yelled back at her and walked her backwards against the wall, grabbing her hands, 'you want me more than you want him! I won't hurt you. For years now, all I've thought about is being with you. I won't do anything to ruin that. Just... give me a chance.'

'Draco, please, try to understand,' Hermione looked up at him and then closed her eyes when Draco's hands trailed down her sides and to her hips.

'It's been so long... I need this to happen now, Hermione. I have been patient because I knew one day... you'd come to me,' Draco closed his eyes.

Hermione reluctantly pulled away from him and went to get her things, 'today isn't that day, Draco. Goodbye.'

'Hermione. You try to understand what I'm feeling! I've tried so hard to... to... Granger!' Draco yelled when she disapparated, 'damn it!'

Draco sat down heavily on his sofa, running both hands furiously through his hair. He would get her at the end, he knew it! He just hated waiting! Draco closed his eyes and tried to calm himself down, thinking that Hermione deserved a lot better than Fred.

And Draco Malfoy was a lot better.
