Chapter 14
"No!" You whispered, covering your mouth and sinking to your knees. "No."
"What caused this?" Hiro asked quietly, helping you to your feet. Aunt Cass just shook her head.
"It's all my fault!" You wailed, holding your head in your hands. "He's after me!"
"(Y/N), you don't know what you're talking about!" Hiro wrapped an arm around your shoulders, but you shoved him away.
"Yes, I do!" You spat.
Then, without a second thought, you took off towards the house, ignoring the protests of Cass and Hiro. You didn't know why, but you had to find out what had happened -- who had caused this. The nagging in the back of your head told you the cloaked man had something to do with it.
The house was blackened and crumbling, and you ducked under the front fence that was hanging by a hinge on its post. The door had fallen off completely, so you slipped through the empty doorway and into the house.
The smoke that lingered in the air made your eyes water, and you rubbed at them furiously. As you looked around, you spotted a smoking red box sitting in the middle of what used to be the living room, which you assumed was the cause of the explosion. Though you had no idea what you were looking for... You felt a pull to goo deeper inside.
"H-hello?" You yelled, then immediately feeling foolish. You doubted that the person who did this was even still hanging around.
"I didn't think you were stupid enough to run into a burning house little girl," a voice hissed, making you jump. Turning around, you saw a figure slumped on the windowsill at the top of the stairs. You were too scared to move.
"But..." he paused to let out a low, dark chuckle, "You proved me wrong." Your feet were frozen in place, and you could only look on as the figure shifted farther out the window. "I will warn you. You'd better stay out of my way, or you'll get yourself hurt. And if you go looking for trouble, I will find you... And I will kill you." With that, he pushed himself out of the window and let out a loud cackle. Finally coming to your senses, you dashed up to the spot he'd been the moment before, and looked out.
Nothing.
You let out a long sigh as you heard the door swing open, knowing who it would be.
"(Y/N)!" Hiro gasped.
"Hey," you mumbled, looking at the floor. You knew Hiro only wanted what was best for you, but he was also sometimes a little over-protective.
"W-what were you thinking?" He asked, exasperated. You opened your mouth to speak, only to close it again.
"I-I just... wanted to... see inside," you stuttered lamely. Hiro looked at you like you'd grown a second head.
"We should go." He took you hand, and you let him lead you down the stairs and out of the house.

"Hey (Y/N)." You turned around to see Hiro standing in the doorway. You were sitting at your desk, watching Netflix on your computer, and trying to get your mind off of the day's events.
"Hey Hiro," you greeted, closing your computer and turning to face him. "What's up?" He walked over sit on your bed behind you.
"Just wanted to check on you," he said. You moved to sit beside him.
"I'm fine Hiro."
"Why did you really go into that house (Y/N)?" He asked suddenly. You looked at the ground and said nothing. After a minute, Hiro just sighed, and tilted your chin up so you were staring into each other's eyes. "Just... be more careful next time okay? I don't want you to get hurt." You smiled a little and nodded.
Hiro closed his eyes and leaned down to plant a kiss on your lips, and your mind went fuzzy.
