Sam and Piper sat next to each other, quietly talking since they were finished with their vocab quiz.
"Do you think our dads are gonna go out again tonight?" Sam asked in a whisper, resting his head on his fist.
"I don't know," Piper whispered back, " maybe. They've been going out a lot lately."
Sam frowned as he heard a slight sadness in his friend's voice. The bell rang and Piper quickly gathered her things, walking out of the English class quickly as Sam followed slowly. Their next hour was both on the same floor, Piper having theater and Sam having art. Piper stopped outside of Jack's classroom and debated about whether to go inside or not, but she needed to or else she would be counted tardy. If she had one more tardy, she would have detention.
Screw it. Piper thought, walking past Jack's room and down the stairs to outside the high school building. She walked across the street to the Science and Math center, opening the door and attempting to avoid being crushed by all the seniors and juniors walking by her. She walked up the stairs and turned the corner and walked to the middle of the hallway, taking a deep breath and walking inside her dad's classroom.
All eyes were on Piper as she walked in. The whole class was full of kids who were all wearing their school ID's. Every single one of their lanyards said 'senior' on it in white letters. Piper felt smaller than usual as her lanyard read' freshmen' on it. Piper had forgotten Mark didn't have a class this hour and he had to cover for the senior English teacher since she was sick today.
"Piper?" Mark asked, looking at her from his desk as he stood in the doorway. "Why aren't you in class?" Piper didn't respond and only just set her backpack on the ground beside Mark's desk.
"What's wrong, Piper?" Mark asked gently.
"Can we talk?" Piper asked softly, her voice cracking as she looked at her dad with tear filled eyes. Mark's entire confused demeanor softened as he looked at his daughter. Mark watched sadly as Piper started to tremble.
"Yeah, yeah." Mark responded, placing a hand on Piper's shoulder. "Come out here." Mark gently gestured his daughter to go into the hallway, and she stepped out while Mark stayed in the classroom for a moment.
"I know you guys are from a different class," Mark began, "but, uh... just work on an extra work you guys have. If you don't have any, you can play on your phones." A few cheers were heard from the seniors as Mark walked outside, closing the door gently behind him as he stood in front of Piper.
"What's up?" Mark asked, concern laced in his voice. Piper looked up from the ground at Mark, tears flowing from her eyes and her face becoming slightly blotchy.
"I miss you..." Piper admitted, a sob escaping her lips. Mark felt his heart crack as she continued.
"I'm glad you're dating Jack. I-I r-really am glad that you have someone else now. I'm actually really h-happy that there's s-some that makes you happy other t-than me since m-mom d-died." Piper explained, her words becoming stuttered as she continued sobbing quietly. She had been talking with her hands, and Mark felt worried because she only did that when something serious was going on.
"But between meetings and-and d-dates and-and plan-planning..." Piper took in a shaky breath and let it out, starting to sob more heavy. "I never see you anymore."
That was it. Mark's heart had officially broken. He felt himself tear up a little as well, but he blinked back the tears and looked at his daughter sadly.
"I hate being home alone and not have anyone to-to do homework w-with." Piper admitted, still crying softly. "I h-hate how y-you're always back l-late from-from dates. I l-like J-Jack! I d-do, Dad! He's the-the first p-person you've d-dated in the l-last two years that-that I like. I'm n-not mad at-at him or any-anything!
"I just miss my dad."
Mark felt his heart scatter onto the floor.
"Piper, I'm sorry, baby girl." Mark said sadly, crouching down on one knee so he was eye level with Piper. He reached a hand up and wiped away Piper's tears, grabbing her shoulders and pulling her into a hug. Piper started crying into Mark's shoulder, neither of them caring that she was getting his shirt wet.
"I just want you home sometimes." Piper admitted sheepishly, her voice wavering as she tried to contain her tears. "We never spend time together anymore. I just miss you."
"God, Piper I miss you too." Mark responded, squeezing Piper tighter. "And to think, I was gonna go out with Jack tonight."
"Oh shoot, Dad, I don't w-want you to have to s-stay home." Piper said, pulling away from the hug and looking at her father. "You can g-go. I can m-manage, okay? J-just forget a-about it."
"Nope." Mark said. "You and me are gonna have lunch in my room today, okay? Just like we used to. " Piper smiled sheepishly and nodded hugging her dad again.
"I'm sorry..." Piper said, feeling Mark tense up.
"It's not your fault, baby girl." Mark whispered, giving Piper a squeeze and letting her go. "Do you wanna go to class?"
"Not really, no." Piper mumbled, looking at her dad as he stood up.
"Alright," Mark started, "you can stay in here. You have to sit at my desk though."
"Okay, Dad." Piper said, following Mark as he walked back into the classroom. All the seniors looked at her, and Piper was glad she didn't wear makeup today. Her face was still tear streaked and blotchy, and she scrubbed her palms across her eyes to try and erase evidence of her crying. Piper sat down in the chair at Mark's desk as he pulled up an extra chair on the other side, getting out a stack of papers and grading them as Piper got out her phone.

Jacky <3
Hey, is Piper in school today? I saw she was here but she wasn't in my class :(
m-swizzle
Yeah, she's here. She wanted to come talk to me and now she's sitting in my class for the rest of the hour.
Jacky <3
Oh, okay! I won't make her tardy or anything, I'll just count her present. Is she okay?
m-swizzle
She's fine, just wanted to talk about something that's been bothering her.
I'm gonna have to take a rain check on our date too :// I'm sorry..
Jacky <3
Ah, I gotcha. And don't worry about it, okay? In all honesty, your daughter is a lot more important than I am haha.
m-swizzle
Thanks for understanding, babe. She's just a little sad that I'm never home and don't get to see her anywhere besides school.
I think I'm gonna surprise her with a Harry Potter movie marathon.
Jacky <3
Good idea! I think she'll like spending time with her two favorite things :)
m-swizzle
I'm excited for it. I'll stop by before I leave to see you. Love you <3
Jacky <3
See you then. And I love you too <3

"Hey, baby girl?" Mark asked, looking at Piper from across the desk. She was eating a bowl of Ramen noodles from one of the packages that Mark kept in his desk.
"Hm?" Piper said, chewing the bite she had in her mouth and swallowing.
"Do you think you could ask Sam to drop you off today?" Mark asked, watching as Piper slightly frowned. "I have a meeting after school today with the other science teachers about the state tests. It'll only take, like, thirty minutes."
"Yeah, I'll ask." Piper replied, taking out her phone and texting her friend as she ate another bite of noodles. "But you better be home right when it's over."
"Don't worry." Mark chuckled. "I will. You better have popcorn ready and your sweatpants on, because we're about to binge watch so hard." Piper giggled and Mark smiled.
"Alrighty, Pop. I'll be ready."

"Hey." Piper said, grabbing Sam's attention as she walked up to him. He had been standing right in front of the front doors of the school, just like he said he would. Sam had agreed to take Piper home, and in return Piper had to tell Sam what was bothering her.
"Hey." Sam replied. "Now, hold up your end of the deal." Piper internally groaned as they began to walk to Sam's car, him brushing his green fringe out of his face.
"You're just gonna make fun of me." Piper groaned, walking beside her friend as they walked down the sidewalk toward where Sam was parked.
"No, I won't." Sam admitted, pulling up his backpack. "Promise."
"Okay..." Piper said, letting out a sigh she didn't know she was holding. "I miss my dad."
Piper glared at Sam as he let out a chuckle.
"You said you wouldn't laugh!" Piper scolded him, shoving him gently.
"It's just," Sam started, regaining his footing, "you see him everyday. How could you miss him?"
"Um," Piper said, sass dripping from her voice, "maybe it's because your dad stole him from me?"
"Oh, come on." Sam rolled his eyes. "My father did not steal Mark."
"Not literally..." Piper mumbled, watching as Sam pulled out his keys and unlocked his car. Piper hopped in the passenger seat as Sam stuck his keys in the ignition and started the car.
"It's just kinda been my dad and I the last four years, ya know?" Piper admitted sheepishly. "Jack is the first guy that I actually like. Your dad is awesome and all, and I'm not mad or anything, I just miss my dad."
"Yeah," Sam said, backing out of his parking spot, "that's how I felt when they first started dating." Sam pulled out of the parking lo and started the route to Piper's house. "I talked to him about it and he just agreed to make a little more time for me. He would start making his plans during class, put in grades at lunch, blah blah blah."
"Looks like we're both just a couple of messes, huh?" Piper laughed.
"Looks like it." Sam chuckled.

"Hey, babe." Mark said gently, walking into Jack's classroom. Jack looked away from his computer and opened his arms for Mark, smiling as Mark walked into them and hugged him. Mark pecked Jack's cheek and placed himself on Jack's lap, smiling as Jack looped one arm around his waist. Mark felt his heart flutter as Jack started to gently swivel his chair.
"Hey, Mark." Jack said, pressing his face into the crook of Mark's neck. Mark chuckled and ran a hand through Jack's brown and gray hair. "How was your meeting?"
"It was boring. I can't stay for long, I should probably be going." Mark said, lifting Jack's head up and pressing a kiss to his lips.
"Aw, but you just got here." Jack frowned, wrapping his other arm around Mark's waist.
"I know, but I told Piper I would come home. And plus, I told you I would stop by." Mark replied.
"Could we go out Saturday or something? Sam is gonna be with his friend that night so we can have the house to ourselves." Jack said, raising his eyebrows in a silly way. Mark smiled and kissed his cheek.
"Probably, but I should get home." Mark said, pressing another kiss to Jack's lips. It was slow and passionate, and it made Jack smile through it. Mark pulled away and nuzzled Jack's nose with his own.
"I'll see you later." Mark said, smiling and getting off of Jack's lap. Jack cheekily smacked Mark's bum as he got off of him, causing Mark to turn around and stare at him with fake anger in his features.
"I love you." Jack teased, dragging out the 'you'.
"I love you too, asshole."
-----
"Dad!" Piper cheered, jumping on Mark and hugging him as he walked through the front door. Mark's eyes went wide in surprise, but then he smiled as he wrapped his arms around Piper's waist. She had her's looped around his neck, her face buried in his shoulder.
"Hey, baby girl." Mark said, setting her down and kissing her forehead. "Are you ready for some Harry Potter?"
"Heck yeah I am! Harry Potter and you are my two favorite things!" Piper chirped.
"Aw, are you saying you put Harry Potter before me?" Mark asked, closing and locking the front door.
"Of course not!" Piper exclaimed. "You always come first, Pop."
After that night, everything turned out okay. Piper stopped feeling sad and ended up talking to Jack about what was going on. Mark had said he would make time for the both of them, but had told Jack that his daughter would always come first. Jack had said the same about his son to Mark, and Sam and Piper both agreed to put their parents first.
So, I guess you could say they all lived happily ever after.
