8.Fooling around
Hi! I know that today it's Friday and it should be an oneshot story here not an story chapter, but I have two chapters still in progress in oneshots, so it take still a while, but maybe on Monday I'll return.
But for now I hope you'll like this slightly shorter chapter, before the action takes a quicker run. I don't know how it will go, but I feel like it will be not too big gap between what I have planed to what I have written already. So see you soon:)
Next few shifts went smoothly. Ryan came back to Newtown, so Penny's mind let her worries fly away. Nothing unexpected happened for over few weeks.
"Pontypandy is calmer than ever" Elvis said as Penny and Sam came into the kitchen.
"Don't say it out loud, because it can be only calm before the storm" Sam warned, but a smile betrayed him.
"Like the accident on the cliffs" Penny joked, playfully nudgeing her elbow in Sam's side. Sam's attitude about his injury helped her see the world in colors again.
"Maybe not so dramatic, but still..." Sam rubbed the back of his neck in embarrassment. "It's windy today. Who knows what still awaits for us?"
That was a good question. Hopefully the day was passing by calmy and without any surprises. Except the ones at the fire station. Three firefighters from lack of work to do, decided to wash the trucks, even if the next washing day was three days away. Sam and Penny were busy, washing Jupiter and Venus, while Elvis went to change the water in a bucket. Just when he came back with a bucket full of cold water just poured inside of it, Elvis as Elvis had to stumble on a wet puddle on the floor behind Venus and as Elvis tried to stay on his feet, he dropped the bucket and the water poured out on Penny. She gasped in shock as cold water wettened her shirt and her face. Sam burst into laughter while Elvis tried to apologise.
"I'm sorry, Penny" he smiled innocently on her, which she returned before she turned back her head to face Sam.
"What?" Sam didn't understand, but a teasing twinkle in Penny's eyes assured him that she was only pretending.
"Nothing" she chuckled, pulling back a strand of wet hair from her forehead as she walked to her locker. "End it, I will be right back" she shouted as she disappeared on the stairs.
Sam and Elvis continued to wash the vehicles as their heard how Penny ran up the stairs.
"So tell me, what is that between you two?" Elvis whispered behind his sponge to Sam who bend down to wetten his sponge again. Sam hold his breath in surprise, before he got back up and tried with all his mind to keep his eyes fixed on Jupiter's window.
"What do you mean?" Sam asked embarrassed. Elvis was the last one Sam suspected would have noticed something. Charlie was already drying his head every single time the topic came to love. It wasn't a secret Sam spent so much time in job, because of two reason. Firstly, because he wanted to escape his brother. And secondly, because of certain someone who could always brighten up his days.
"You behave differently towards Penny" Elvis noticed, but Sam breathed a sigh of relief.
"She's a woman. I wouldn't treat her like I behave towards you" Sam joked. "Besides I..." he wanted to explain, but Penny had just came back and was leaning on Jupiter with a mischevious smile on her face.
"Nice that you noticed" she joked as she took a sponge from a bucket only to throw it on Sam's chest. "It would also be nice if you put at least a little attention to what you're doing. We don't want to have a black Jupiter" she teased as she showed a dark shades on red paint.
They laughed as they washed the rest of vehicle. Then it came a time for lunch, but when they sat down to eat, Station Officer Steele called them from below.
"Well, I hoped to see all of you, but that's fine. I'll send them a message later" Station Officer Steele started when Sam, followed close by Elvis who was discussing something with Penny, walked into the office. "We are invited to participate in exchange in workshops of First Aid. We will get a young team of cadets from the academy with one of team leader from Newtown. I need two of you to organise everything. Either in the station or in the park that depends on what you want to show" he exlained the details to them when Penny turned on her phone to record everything, with intention to send it to Arnold and Ellie later in case they would be interested.
When they were done, they walked back upstairs to eat their lunch in peace.
The same calm stayed on by the whole week in Pontypandy. Elvis, Arnold and Sam were on the shift and all they had to do was wash vehicles once again.
"What's that with Sam and Penny?" Arnold asked Elvis quietly when Sam went over to the faucet to exchange water in the bucket.
"Well, you know... they lack courage to tell what they feel for each other while everyone else around them goes crazy, because it is so visible" Elvis explained.
"That's why you fool around after they say they're just friends" Arnold realized the big mistake he just made when he faced Sam's narrow eyes, before he got splashed with freshly wet water.
