Tears Don't Fall
Jin-Jer observed from the distance as she watched the boys learn the fusion technique before Goku had to return to Other World. It was so much easier to stop caring entirely than stress herself by worrying about the fate of the universe.
She, along with everyone else dies by the hands of Majin Buu. The way she saw it, at least she got to reunite with her family in the afterlife. That was much better than being all alone on earth.
Jin-Jer dangled her legs on the edge of the lookout. She stretched her left arm out and focused on the white clouds. She turned them grey and watched as lightning sparked through them. The rain fell and was followed up by roars of thunder. With her right hand though, Jin-Jer parted the clouds and let there be a rainbow in the sky.
"I didn't know you can do that." a shy voice spoke up. Jin-Jer didn't bother to turn around. She just stayed focusing on the sky. "Why did you part the sky like that?"
Jin-Jer released the clouds and let everything go back to its normal state. "Why are you talking to me for, girl? Shouldn't you be with the others mourning about you loss?"
Videl looked down. "I know what Goku said. But I don't believe that Gohan is dead." Jin-Jer scoffed at her irritational beliefs. "You don't have to be so mean you know."
Jin-Jer stared off, taking a deep breath. "What do you want from me? Hm? Do you want me to pretend that I care about all the death going on around me? All the people who are going to eventually die? It's time you people start facing what's right in front of you and accept it. You're all fighting a losing battle. Vegeta and Kakarot were your last hope and they're both dead. If you really think those two younglings can save you, then you are all delusional."
"You're a Saiyan too. Why don't you join them then if you don't think Trunks and Goten can get the job done themselves?" Videl argued.
"Because I know I'm not strong enough. I don't need to be beaten to death to let it sink into my head that I won't be able to destroy that monster either."
The young girl clenched her fists. "Where's your hope? Maybe if you just put out some positive energy, somehow-someway we could get through this alive."
Jin-Jer stood up and finally looked Videl in the eyes. "My hope died on that battlefield. I know it's a tough pill to swallow, but everybody you love will die. It already happened to that boy."
"That boys name is Gohan!"
"You missed the point where I said I don't care!"
Videl felt her lip quiver but she wasn't going to let her walls down. "I know he's alive. I can feel it."
"Stop tricking yourself into believing such an absurd thing."
"What makes it absurd?!"
"Because you actually think that the people you love will stay with you forever! That they are immune from death itself! You don't know what it's like to actually feel that pain and accept it! That's why you hold on to this sliver of hope that Gohan is alive because you know you'll be miserable without him! New flash, Videl. He's dead, just like Vegeta. And we will all suffer the same fate. How's that for reality?"
Jin-Jer breathed heavily, not realizing that she didn't even give herself a chance to breath throughout her cold truth.
She looked at the girls face and saw that her harsh words didn't dim her light of hope. Instead, there was a much different expression than what Jin-Jer expected to see. "Are you acting like this because of Vegeta?"
Jin-Jer shook her head, "Just get away from me."
Videl followed her past Chi-Chi and Bulma. She grabbed ahold of Jin-Jer's wrist. "Wait!"
The Saiyan swung around and powered up, "You lay your hands on me one more time, I swear it'll be the last thing you ever do."
"You'll never feel better if you don't talk about it."
"The last thing I need is anybodies pity."
"You won't have to worry about that." Bulma shot, "If you don't care about us, then why don't you just leave?"
"That," she pointed, "Is something we both agree on."
Piccolo ran over to them, "What are you doing?"
"I'm obviously making friendship bracelets for everybody."
"You can't leave!" he shouted down at her.
"Oh yeah?" Jin-Jer floated up to his level and went Super Saiyan. "And who's going to stop me?"
"What about your promise to Vegeta? Does that mean nothing to you?" Piccolo knew that if Gotenks couldn't get the job done, he and Jin-Jer would have to at least try to take out Majin Buu themselves. But he couldn't do that if she left.
She shrugged uncaringly, "It means as much as a promise to a dead man. Worthless."
Bulma stood up, "What was the promise?" she demanded an answer with a stomp of the foot. Jin-Jer ignored the woman and continued to stare daggers into Piccolo's eyes. "Tell me!"
"That she would help you take care of Trunks." Piccolo answered, still not looking away from the Saiyan in front of him. "And help him grow up to be a strong warrior."
"I can't do that if those boys go out into a suicide mission!" Jin-Jer's aroura doubled in size and her blonde hair got longer. Videl, Bulma, and Chi-Chi flew back because of the strong energy radiating off of the Saiyans body. Piccolo stood his ground, trying his best to not fall over. "Why should I waste my time thinking about a child who's going to get himself killed? Answer me that, Namek!"
Videl finally found the strength to stand up, "Now I get it. You're afraid."
"Foolish girl. I'm not afraid of anything."
"You're also angry because there's nothing you can do to protect Trunks and Goten in their fight." Chi-Chi added.
"Is that what made you go Super Saiyan 2? Because you're angry and scared?" Piccolo asked.
Jin-Jer hadn't even realized that she ascended. She powered down. "What does it matter?"
"We're all scared." Bulma told her. "But we have hope that everything will turn out to be okay."
Jin-Jer shook her head and scoffed in disgust. "You all keep talking about hope. Sometimes, that's not enough to get you through the really brutal shit."
"What are you talking about?" Videl was so confused. There was something that this woman wasn't telling them. "Did something happen in your life and that's why you don't believe in us?"
"So what if something happened? It doesn't matter anymore."
"It's okay. You can tell us." Chi-Chi assured.
"I once had so much hope for the well being of my planet and the people who resided on it."
"Planet Vegeta?" Bulma guessed.
"No. I forced myself to forget the name of it and everybody else that I had come in contact with on my time there." Jin-Jer raked her hands through her messy hair, since her SSJ2 form had busted her rubber bands that held it in pigtails. "I wanted to believe that everything will be okay when things started to fall apart. But they only got worse."
Videl cautiously put her hand on Jin-Jer's shoulder. "Dragar was the king of that planet, who his people loved and trusted. He was a strong man who deserved everything good. I, on the other hand was a cold blooded killer who didn't care about anybody except myself. A ferocious beast who still doesn't regret harming people, if it meant getting my way... I don't know what a man like that saw in me. But we fell in love and had a son named Blayze."
Chi-Chi and Bulma had a stunned expression on their faces. Then immediately Bulma felt terrible about the cruel things she said to Jin-Jer the last time they encountered each other.
"I tried being a good person so that my son wouldn't grow up to have as much blood on his hands that I did." she squeezed her eyes shut and shook her head. "But that didn't matter. I tried to change for the better but there was too much evil in my soul that it was passed on to my son."
No matter how much Jin-Jer tried forgetting about her past. This was a tragic memory that was branded on her brain. "I hoped and prayed that he would be okay. And not turn out like his malicious mother. But I knew that bad people like myself never have a happy ending. I was just living in the eye of the storm and it was a matter of time until everything, everybody that I loved would get destroyed."
Nobody would have guessed that Jin-Jer was hurting so much on the inside. She either came off as emotionless or happy depending who she was around.
"I had hope once. No, twice." she stared Videl dead in the eyes, "Do you know what it's like to watch your husband get killed by your rouge son? Then watch him destroy half the planet? Even worse, having to kill your child because it's the only option you have?"
Videl wiped the tears from her eyes. All Piccolo could think about was Gohan and how he literally died to protect him when he was a little boy. And if he wouldn't have been turned into stone, he would have sacrificed himself to Majin Buu if it meant Gohan would get away and be safe.
"What does a person do after that? They move far away to another planet in hopes to start over. But misfortune follows me wherever I go, because not only did I have to lose my husband and son. But I come here to watch the first person I ever gave a damn about, sacrifice himself to save the people he loves. I guess Vegeta and I are more alike than I thought. Nothing goes as planned for us because that monster is still out there and he's going to kill again." they all backed up when the sorrow in Jin-Jer's voice turned to anger. "And you ask me why I don't have anymore hope. I can't get my hopes up for a 3rd time. Because I have no more hope to hold onto. Watching Trunks and Goten die along with the people that Vegeta and Kakarot love will only be the icing on the cake of tragedy that I had the misfortune of living through, right before I get killed too. So now do you all understand why I am trying to not give a damn about what happens anymore!"
Everybody was silent. Even Krillin, 18, Yamcha, Ox King, and Roshi who were all watching from a safe distance.
"Good. Now if you will all excuse me. I have somewhere I would like to be." Without saying anything else. Jin-Jer sped through the sky to be alone, which was all that she wanted when she first moved to Earth.
