Chapter 4 : Angry Yoongi
When he woke up the next day, Seokjin realized that his alarm had not yet sounded. More strangely, he noticed that he was not tired as usual, as if he had finally managed to sleep for an entire night. Finally, he did not remember having any particular difficulty falling asleep the night before. He felt surprisingly fit. It was such a delightful feeling that he smiled at his ceiling.
Without paying attention to Yoongi still lying in the dark, on the other side of the shelf, he got up to go prepare the breakfast of his dongsaengs. As he was the oldest of the group, their hyung to all, it was he who took care of them and always prepared the meals. Except for breakfast, he always received help from Jungkook, the youngest member of the band aged seventeen.
But in the morning, it was so difficult to get him out of bed that Seokjin would never have asked this still growing teenager to help him with the preparation, knowing that he himself was already experiencing all the difficulties of the world to wake up.
On that day, however, he would not do so in haste. He prepared a small feast with the few things left in the dormitory fridge and when, one by one, Namjoon, Hoseok, Taehyung and Jimin entered the small dining room where Seokjin had already set the table, they were very surprised.
"Hyung, you've already finished preparing breakfast," Namjoon, the group leader, said. "You got up early, it's unusual!"
"I slept very well," Seokjin said, the radiant mine, "settle in, we can take our time to eat today."
"Thank you for the meal!" Jimin said to him as he settled in.
"Thank you, Jin hyung!" Taehyung added.
"Personally," Hoseok said in a voice still hoarse from sleep, "what surprises me the most is that Yoongi hyung is still not out of bed. For Jungkook, it's normal, but for hyung, it's unusual, he's usually the first to get up."
"That old man? It's no surprise to me," Taehyung giggled.
"That old man is younger than me," Seokjin informed him.
"I never said you weren't old," Taehyung replied.
"Tae, you're so mean to Jin hyung!" Jimin exclaimed.
"Don't worry Jimin, it would be wrong for me to get offended if Taehyung said it, after all, you know Taehyung is the weirdest of us," Seokjin told him.
"Hey, don't say that, I was just joking!" Taehyung exclaimed.
Jimin and Seokjin burst out laughing while Hoseok and Namjoon, not being able to understand such energy so early in the morning, remained silentstarting to help himself to food.
"I know, me too," Seokjin reassured Taehyung who seemed to calm down.
He looked at the clock on the wall.
"I will wake Jungkook and Yoongi up," Seokjin decided.
"Good luck, hyung," Taehyung said.
It was always Seokjin who woke up the maknae and it was a role that no one envied. He always had it for long minutes because their youngest bandmate had heavy sleep. In the past, he also woke up his roomate Yoongi, but he had not done so for a long time because he woke up later than the rapper now.
The two awakenings promise to be two terrible trials for Seokjin . On the one hand, the maknae who never wanted to wake up, on the other, the grumpy rapper who hated to disturb his rest. He started with the youngest, thinking the task would be less dangerous.
Jungkook was sleeping in an unlikely and weird position when Seokjin entered his room. He wondered how anyone could sleep in this position and again envied people who could easily fall asleep no matter the context. He called him and shook him for several minutes until finally Jungkook growled to signify that he was awake, not without involuntarily kicking Seokjin when he had recovered to a normal position.
"Sorry hyung," the maknae mumbled, who was now sitting but whose eyes were still firmly closed.
"No big deal," Seokjin grumbled, rubbing his chest as he left the room, realizing that he had underestimated the danger posed by the muscular body of a sleeping Jungkook.
He then joined Yoongi in their room and found the other still asleep. The alarm bells were ringing at his side, but he did not seem to hear it. Seokjin put it out and called:
"Yoongi?"
He repeated his call several times without success. This sleeper is no longer sleeping so light, thought Seokjin who resolved to shake him. But at the first shake that his body instantly felt like an aggression, Yoongi sprang and held his hands with his fingers welded and stretched like a karateka ready to fight before growling and put his hands down when he recognized Seokjin.
Maybe Seokjin was the only one who could wake him up and get away with it. But this time, Yoongi seemed really edgy and even Seokjin's gentle awakening seemed violent to him:
"Do you want to die?" he said in an angry tone.
"Uh... no? Come and eat with us, breakfast is already served."
Yoongi seemed to be spreading his mind, but Seokjin didn't wait to find out if he had completely calmed down before leaving the room. He knew that in this situation, it was better to let him calm down alone and not speak to him. The silence was golden.
When Seokjin returned to the dining room before Jungkook and Yoongi, the others saw that he looked upset:
"Was it that hard?" Hoseok asked, in an understanding tone because for nothing in the world he would have wanted to awaken these two.
"You can't imagine," Seokjin sighed with a bored look at Jungkook who had just entered the room with a face still swollen with sleep and who gave him a sorry look. "Here comes the kangaroo boy who starts kicking as soon as he wakes up."
When Yoongi joined them and sat around the table, the oldest of the rappers still seemed as grumpy as when he woke up.
"Hyung, what's wrong with you?" Namjoon worried.
"You look terrible," Taehyung added, shoving a large spoonful of rice into his mouth.
Yoongi glared at the second youngest and began to eat quietly.
"What's surprising..." Hoseok started laughing.
Yoongi brutally threw his cutlery on the table, catching Hoseok off guard because he was such a jovial boy that it was rare for anyone to get angry with him.
"What?" he said aggressively, "What is so surprising?"
"Wow, calm down, Yoongi," Namjoon said, "you just don't look like you slept well, that's what he was about to say and that's what Taehyung wanted to make you understand without malice I'm sure. In his own way."
With the exception of Jungkook, who ate with his eyes closed and whose head sometimes fell to the side, the others all looked at the rapper with concern because he was obviously very upset. Yoongi sighed with annoyance seeing them staring at him like that.
"Yeah, I didn't sleep well and it's an euphemism... While you slept like a baby, I watched you all night!" Yoongi said to Seokjin on a tone that sounded like a reproach, as Seokjin widened his eyes.
"It's not creepy at all," Hoseok remarked.
"I usually hear you crying at night while I'm falling asleep and I think it lulls me..." Yoongi admitted to Seokjin with shame.
"Hey!" Seokjin cried, outraged.
It was a secret that the two roommates shared like many others. There were informations that neither of them wanted out of their room. Seokjin was the eldest and he didn't cry in front of the others, not even Yoongi.
It just happened that in the darkness of the night, Yoongi had heard him sob once and Seokjin had made him promise not to say anything. But afterwards, it was repeated, regularly, when Seokjin made the assessment of his day by fixing the black ceiling where his dark thoughts were inscribed.
"Jin hyung cries at night?" Jungkook was so surprised that he finally seemed to wake up and stared at his eldest Hyung.
"No, he's laughing at me because he's jealous that I got to sleep last night and he didn't, that's all," Seokjin replied to reassure the youngest, glaring at Yoongi. "Do you know why I slept well, Yoongi?" he added with a proud smile.
"No, why?" Yoongi muttered.
"Yoongichi!" Seokjin cried out.
"Why are you screaming at me, I said no, why?" Yoongi replied, annoyed.
"No, not you, Yoongichi whom I introduced you to yesterday."
"DID YOU REALLY CALL THAT THING LIKE THAT?!" Yoongi shouted, stunned, attracting the perplexity of all the other members.
"Who is Yoongichi?" Jimin asked, with curious eyes.
"That's the ugly Jin hyung new doll apparently," Yoongi replied, with his furrowed eyebrows.
"Jin hyung sleeps with a doll?!" Taehyung exclaimed with excitement, more and more surprised.
"A doll as weird as you are that a fan gave him yesterday," the rapper said to him.
"Don't exaggerate, my doll isn't as weird as Voo," Seokjin protested.
"Heeeey, I'm not weird!" Taehyung exclaimed, addressing his two elders his most terrible grimace that made everyone around the table laugh except for Yoongi who was still too upset for that.
Seokjin got up and left the room to get the doll in his bedroom and show it to his bandmates. He searched everywhere under his pillow but could not find it.
When he looked elsewhere in the room, he realized that it was on Yoongi's bed. The rapper certainly wanted to watch it again with more attention that morning Seokjin thought as he grabbed it and came back to the others very quickly with the doll.
"It's a doll that helps to fall asleep," he said without giving the others more details as Jungkook took it in his hands and carefully examined it.
"Hyung, you really think it works? And why you called it Yoongichi?" Jungkook asked with curiosity, "it doesn't look like Yoongi hyung at all. Except for his nasty little eyes maybe," he added, alternating the looks for the doll and the looks for Yoongi, who lightly shot down the spoon he was holding on the youngest's head.
"I don't look like that awful doll," the rapper sniffed out.
"No, Yoongi said she looked like Chucky," Seokjin said, making Namjoon and Hoseok laugh. "For my part, I said I would call him Yoongichi if I managed to fall asleep last night because for me, Yoongi is the personification of Sleep. But you're right, JK, now that you said, the face of the doll reminds me a little of Yoongi's scowling look," he added, pounding with laughter at the same time of Jungkook who however was watching carefully the spoon that the rapper was waving with a menacing air.
"Now I understand why I couldn't sleep!" Yoongi suddenly exclaimed, more irritated than ever. "It's because of your doll! Why did we have to talk about Chucky just before we went to sleep?"
"You gave the name of a doll from a horror movie, not me," Seokjin protested, "I gave it a cute name."
"And in your opinion, when I am asked to give a name to a horrible doll, what other name than Chucky I - a normal person - am supposed to give?! Because of you, I had nightmares of it all night and it kept me awake."
"Hyung, were you traumatized by this doll too?" Hoseok giggled, because he believed the oldest rapper without fear.
"Who hasn't been?" Yoongi replied.
"Jin hyung, you really think it was the doll that helped you sleep?" Namjoon asked in a disillusioned manner, because for him, such a thing could not exist, it could only be psychological. Seokjin must have managed to sleep only because he was convinced that this object would help him.
"Impossible," released Taehyung, who was no more ready to believe in magic than to become a trumpeter.
"Maybe it's just linked to the fact that Yoongi hyung didn't snore that night because of his nightmares," Jungkook laughed but he soon received a new spoon on his head, stronger than the previous one, ripping off a little "ouch" and rubbing his head vigorously.
"I don't snore, you snore and not just a little, and that's why we don't want you in our room anymore," Yoongi replied to a sulking Jungkook.
"No, it has nothing to do with that," Seokjin shook his head forcefully, confiscating the spoon from Yoongi to prevent him from hitting the maknae again. "It's been a long time since I had trouble sleeping and the day I brought Yoongichi at home, I succeeded. It's not a coincidence for me. If it works again tonight, I'll believe in magic!"
The others stared at him with dismay, wondering if it was still his immature side talking or if he had really started to lose his mind.
Seokjin had not talked about the mechanism of action of the doll, namely the whispering in the ear of the doll because he feared that others would really laugh at him. Having a doll was already something to sell, talking to it was something else. He also did not say that according to Min-Hi, the doll made all worries disappear, not just sleep problems.
"Oh wow... well, if it helps you sleep, that's great," Jimin said embarrassedly as the others looked up at Seokjin childishness.
"He sleeps with a doll at the age of twenty-two, Jimin, do not encourage him," Yoongi replied.
"A scary doll," Hoseok added.
"Anyway, it'll stay under my pillow, you won't see it," Seokjin said, who was getting annoyed by the criticism. "Unless Yoongi starts to come it out again."
"I didn't touch that horror, you dreamt," the other replied.
Seokjin looked at him, truly surprised. Then he asked, slowly:
"If you didn't touch it... how did it land on your bed this morning?"
