Chapter 26 : I will always remember...

The goodbyes with the fans were joyful and Seokjin was happy with this last memory with his fans. On the way back that evening, Seokjin kept a smile on his face and that made the other members a little less sad.

Quickly, Seokjin stopped thinking about his fans to think about his dongsaengs. He realized that this might be the last time he returned home with them. He had the idea of making them a meal for the last time to please them, because it was always him who had taken care of making them food and they would no doubt miss it. He hoped he would have the strength for that.

"You will all go for a medical check-up tomorrow," their manager announced to them when they arrived in front of the dormitory. " And you better tell me everything that happened without hiding anything this time. It's insane everything that happened to you in such a short time. You could almost believe that you are cursed!"

The manager saw that they were all looking at each other nervously and everyone seemed to crowd around their eldest. Out of everyone, Seokjin seemed to be the worst, and his shoulder injury seemed to have nothing to do with it.

"Did you boys hear me?" Sejin insisted, seeing that no one answered him.

"Yes hyung, we heard you," Namjoon said in a low voice. "We'll tell you everything tomorrow."

The others just nodded silently, knowing that tomorrow might be the saddest day of their lives.

"But if things really aren't going well for you, we can do that tonight, right away," the manager said, worried to see them lifeless like this, because it wasn't like them.

The group was always energetic, especially when they came back from their fan meeting and talked about their fans and the gifts they had received. This time there was none of that. Just silence. A deafening silence.

"No!" Seokjin said quickly, "please let's do this tomorrow, for now we mostly need to sleep."

He wanted to spend the evening at home with his little brothers, not in a medical center.

"Are you sure?" Sejin insisted.

"Yes," Seokjin replied before thinking of something else without understanding the incongruity of his request: "but please, can you send a clean-up crew tomorrow? There's quite a mess in the dorm. You can deduct from my salary to pay them."

"Eh?" the manager said, perplexed, because the boys had never made such a request, taking care of managing the cleanliness of their dormitory themselves.

The others looked at Seokjin with wide eyes: how could he think of something as trivial as cleaning?

"Hyung, it's useless," Yoongi refused, "we'll do it alone."

"No, I don't want you to have to do it tomorrow, that would be too unfair."

In his mind, it would be too unfair if tomorrow, his members had to both mourn him and clean up everything the monster had done, a monster he himself had awakened and fed with his worries and his life. He didn't want to do that to them. He would clean the bloody writing on the hallway wall himself if he could, but for the rest, a cleaning company could keep the dormitory tidy.

Still perplexed, but feeling that they all needed to rest, the manager sighed:

"Okay, I'll take care of it, go home and rest now. I'll send you tomorrow's schedule as soon as possible."

"Thanks hyung," Seokjin replied, the others remaining perfectly silent.

He initiated the movement and returned to the dorm, the others following him in silence like a funeral procession. Upon entering, they found the dormitory just as they had left it before leaving it to go to the company to prepare for the fan meeting, ransacked by the doll's spirit. The emptied furniture that littered the floor had been overturned, it looked like the dormitory had been broken into.

"I forgot it was this bad," Taehyung sighed.

"Luckily Sejin hyung didn't enter the dorm with us, he would have lost his temper if he had seen what we had hidden from him," Yoongi said.

"Maybe it would be better to tell him we were robbed than to tell him we were attacked by the vengeful spirit of an Aztec doll," Namjoon said. "In any case, the cameras in the street would prove that we lied and no one entered here. The most acceptable rational explanation would be that we did this ourselves."

"I refuse to be held responsible for what that degenerate girl did," Taehyung replied.

"Stop insulting her or she'll do worse," Yoongi replied, giving him a small blow on the back of the head.

"If anyone finds out that we did something as shameful as damaging our dorm, our reputation will suffer. I think I'd still rather talk about demon doll," Namjoon finally said, remembering what Sejin had deduced. "Sejin hyung asked if we were cursed. I think he will believe us if we tell him the truth and he can take it upon himself to hide the truth."

"So you want to tell him the truth?" Hoseok was surprised. "You are optimistic about his reaction, I think he will never believe it and will call us crazy."

Namjoon turned to Seokjin for his opinion.

"What do you think, hyung?"

"Tell him whatever you want, in any case, one way or another, it will be necessary to explain the presence of my dead body."

The others looked at him in horror.

"I was joking," he apologized immediately.

But his joke clearly wasn't a joke.

"How can you joke about that?" Jimin asked in pain, looking towards Jungkook who hadn't said a word since they got home and who seemed even more devastated by what Seokjin had just said.

"I'm sorry," Seokjin regretted seeing the state of sadness in which the others were. "I just don't want to have to think about tomorrow, so don't ask me, okay?"

The others nodded painfully And Seokjin quickly turned away from them so as not to cry. He had to be strong for them.

In the living room, one of the two sofas had been spared by Yoongichi's anger and as Seokjin felt very tired, instead of going straight to his room to wash and change like the other, he rather headed to the living room and plopped down on the couch, breathing a sigh of relief because standing for too long was tiring him.

"Hyung..." Jimin murmured, looking at him dutifully like the others.

"I'm fine, I'm a little tired, I'll rest a little here," Seokjin reassured him. "Go wash up and then when you come back down, let's prepare dinner all together, okay?"

"O-okay hyung."

Wishing and wondering if Yoongichi would wait until the end of the night to show up like last night, Seokjin closed his eyes as his dongasaengs went up, except for Jungkook, who didn't want to leave him alone on the ground floor while they would all be upstairs. He slowly approached the sofa and remained standing in front of Seokjin.

Seokjin felt his presence a few centimeters away from him.

"You won't let me rest, JK, will you?" Seokjin mocked, opening one eye and smiling weakly.

"If I thought you would be better afterward, I would, but that's not the case," Jungkook replied, tears welling up in his eyes, not daring to get too close to Seokjin for fear of the reaction of the vengeful spirit hiding he didn't know where. "It will only get worse..."

Sad to see him like this, Seokjin looked around and addressed the emptiness of the room:

"Don't get angry Yoongichi, I'm just saying my goodbyes, okay?"

Perplexed, Jungkook looked at Seokjin without understanding but immediately afterwards, seeing no paranormal reaction in the room, Seokjin waved his hand to signal Jungkook to come and sit next to him.

"You can come here, JK, I think Yoongichi understood that I wasn't going to try to escape from her anymore" Seokjin said, half convinced of what he had just said. Maybe the monster was just saving his strength for the fateful moment when she would come and take his life.

But Jungkook didn't ask any questions and, taking him at his word, he quickly threw himself on the sofa and snuggled up against Seokjin. Smiling, the elder looked at the younger with tenderness and after a moment, he ask him:

"Tell me, JK, what memory of me will you keep, when I'm no longer here?"

"Don't say-" Jungkook began, but Seokjin interrupted him.

"Please, JK."

Jungkook realized that Seokjin needed someone who loved him to talk about the memories of him he was leaving behind. The eldest didn't want to pretend to believe that he would be able to survive this night and even though it was painful for Jungkook too, he resolved to say:

"I will always remember the day we met and I thought you were the most handsome man in this country," he started, doing his best to hold back his tears.

"Oh wow, finally you admit it," Seokjin joked to lighten the mood and encourage Jungkook to relax a little.

Mirroring his model, Jungkook allowed himself a little lightness in these dark hours and replied with a little vengeful smile:

"Also, I will always remember how you, the immature hyung who dared to lecture me and how I told myself that in fact, I had come from Busan at the age of fifteen to come to educate you and not the other way around."

"What a cheeky brat!" Seokjin chuckled. "What else?"

"I will remember the car rides to school that we took together and during which I felt very privileged."

"Yes, driving my little brother to school and make him his meals was my most important job at that time," Seokjin said in a dreamy tone.

"I will remember when you woke me up in the morning," Jungkook continued, "and how I was giving you a hard time."

"Yeah, don't forget all the times you hit me, okay kangaroo?" Seokjin lauged gently placing his fist against Jungkook's arm.

Jungkook continued talking, not wanting to stop now that he had started, as if his survival depended on it at this precise moment.

"I will remember all the times we bickered. I regret not having noticed that they were precious moments to be appreciated with gratitude, I didn't know that one day they would disappear forever."

"I didn't know either..." Seokjin admitted placing his his bandaged hand on Jungkook's who was lost in his precious memories.

"I will remember that where I felt safest was behind the broad shoulders of my Jin hyung."

This time, Seokjin was careful not to respond, too emotional and afraid to cry, but Jungkook, carried away in his emotional rush of memories, continued:

"I will remember how I admired you for your perseverance and how I wanted to be like you. How I will always aspire to be as cool as you, even after... after...."

"JK, please, stop now," Seokjin murmured, as he now had tears in his eyes even though he had promised himself not to cry.

Yet, Jungkook continued :

"I will remember your laugh, and your voice when you called me JK. I will remember your voice when you were joking, or when you were excited about everything like a child," Jungkook continued however, unable to stop as those few years spent with Seokjin came flooding back to him, "I will remember your beautiful voice when you sang, and I will listen to it every day through the songs we recorded together... I will remember... I will remember..."

Between his sobs, Jungkook suddenly burst into tears, unable to say more. Seokjin quickly picked him up and hugged him crying too.

"I'm sorry Jungkook... sorry for everything! Sorry for not being up to the task... sorry for using that doll and hurting you... sorry for not trusting you... sorry for abandoning you now..." he sobbed.

Unable to respond, Jungkook just clung to him desperately.
