Chapter 13 : Jungkook's guilt

The next morning, the members met at the gym with their sports coaches as usual. Indeed, the idol profession was a profession that required being in very good physical shape and some of them were not only aiming for physical fitness when they trained, but also trying to define the muscles of their body.

This was the case for Jungkook who considered his physical appearance too ordinary and wanted to stand out from the others with a particularly muscular body that he was keen to soon be able to reveal to his fans who still took him for a child even though he saw himself as a man.

While he went to the side of the dumbbell and collected very heavy ones, Seokjin had fun making the others laugh by lifting two very small pink dumbbells of one kilo each, pretending that they were very heavy for his weak arms and even ends up dropping them while massaging his supposedly painful shoulders.

Looking at him, Jungkook chuckled, shaking his head as if he were a disapproving parent watching his son's mischief. Then he focused again on his own exercises, which were not a joke and brought out all the veins in his arms.

"Seonsaeng-nim, Jin hyung is not working!" Jimin exclaimed like sulky child, making the others laugh.

On the orders of the sports coach, Seokjin finally had to resolve to do his warm-ups next to Jungkook who was focused on what he was doing. He saw the efforts of the youngest who made him sweat profusely and who mobilized all the muscles of his upper body. He told himself that he should get to work hard too and that the time for jokes was over. Jungkook's efforts were admirable and he knew he should take an example from him. After his moment of weakness the day before, Jungkook seemed to be doing better or at least showed no fragility.

But Seokjin preferred to keep an eye on Jungkook for the moment, because he knew that the youngest was not in the best shape despite the appearances and someone - Seokjin obviously - had to watch over him if he didn't show his weaknesses to others.

While lying down on his elbows to support his body and work his abs, Seokjin noticed near the weight storage rack a young woman's back whose face he couldn't see except for her long hair. She was right behind Jungkook who had his back turned to her and she seemed to be checking the solidity of the fixings of the bars where the heavy weights were placed.

Her silhouette was familiar to Seokjin and yet, he didn't remember ever seeing a female coach since they trained here, but there were always new people working with them so he didn't question it further and focused on his tight stomach which was painfully on fire for his long minute of core building.

Then, finishing with a grunt of relief, he got back on his knees and raised his head. The young woman was no longer there and she was nowhere else in the room.

Maybe she had just come here to take inventory of the equipment? Seokjin shrugged, realizing it was none of his business. He was going to get back on his fitness mat for the rest of his exercises but behind Jungkook, a creaking sound was heard and caught his attention. He suddenly saw a screw in the shelf jump out of its hole and a metal pull-up bar quickly detach itself from its location, carried away by the heavy alters.

Seokjin felt his heart skip a beat seeing that Jungkook was in the path of this dangerous falling object. Worse, Jungkook, too focused on putting his own alters on the ground to breathe, had not heard the noise behind him and therefore had not noticed the danger that was about to hit him. It was a matter of seconds and Seokjin didn't wait to find out how many. He immediately jumped up screaming:

"JK, WATCH OUT!!"

He pushed the maknae just as the heavy bar had just fallen with a resounding crash and hit him head on instead of Jungkook.

The youngest, surprised by Seokjin's cry, did not have time to react when the elder pushed him brutally and could only roll on the ground a few meters away without understanding what was happening.

As for Seokjin, he received the heavy weights in his upper back as he had just crashed to the ground and the pain was so great that he instantly lost consciousness, his scream of pain and fall attracting the attention of the entire room.

Finally realizing what had just happened and seeing his other hyungs running and screaming next to Seokjin's inanimate body, Jungkook yelled:

"JIN HYUNG!!"

He stood up quickly and rushed to Seokjin's side. Namjoon and Hoseok, quickly removed the heavy weights that were crushing Seokjin's shoulders and Jungkook felt like throwing up when he saw that Seokjin's bones had shifted and his shoulders were at an improbable angle. No one dared to move him for fear of making his condition worse, preferring to wait for help to arrive, which was immediately called by one of the coaches present.

Horror was written on each face and everyone felt helpless. Jungkook, one hand delicately placed on Seokjin lower back where there was no risk of hurting him, kept shaking him gently while sobbing:

"Jin hyung, please, wake up..."

"Jk doesn't want to eat," Taehyung announced, joining his elders in the dining room.

"Is he still in Jin hyung's bed?" Namjoon asked.

"Yes and he won't budge," Taehyung said, sighing and sitting back down at the table. "He prefers to be alone for the moment."

Ever since Seokjin had been admitted to the emergency room after being hit by the alters, Jungkook had been in a state of great distress.

He had accompanied Sejin and Namjoon to the hospital as soon as the ambulance came to pick up Seokjin and he had heard the doctor talking about Seokjin's dislocated shoulders and a possible fracture of his right shoulder that could jeopardize his future as an idol. Hearing this, Jungkook lost all color in his face and waited with great anxiety and biting his thumb until the final diagnosis was made.

There was ultimately and fortunately no fracture but Seokjin's shoulders had to be put back into place and would have to be immobilized for a while with splints on both arms.

"It's my fault..." was the only thing Jungkook said before falling into silence.

He hadn't been able to stay at the hospital until Seokjin woke up even though he had ardently requested it and had to return to the dorm with Namjoon. There, he went to Seokjin and Yoongi's room and took refuge in the eldest's bed, refusing to discuss with Namjoon who had wanted to convince him that what had happened was not his fault.

"He keeps saying it's his fault even though I told him it's not and Jin hyung himself knows it's not his fault, I'm sure of that," Namjoon sighed, knowing the oldest. "I guess we'll have to wait until Jin hyung comes back and tells him himself for Jungkook to agree to believe me."

"Yes, but since Jungkook was the one who was in the path of the alters, no matter what we or Jin hyung can say to him, he must be thinking that he should be the one in the hospital with dislocated shoulders, maybe worst, and not Jin hyung," Yoongi explained.

"It's no one's fault, it's just an unfortunate accident," Hoseok said, mechanically rubbing his leg which had been freed from its cast but whose pain still haunted him. "It happens. Our group just isn't having much luck at the moment. But the main thing is that it is not too serious and that Jin hyung gets better quickly."

Everyone nodded silently and began to eat silently. The absence of Seokjin and Jungkook at the table was heavy, because they had the habit of being seven. Knowing the oldest and the youngest of the group were suffering could only make the others concerned.

Some meditated on Hoseok's sentence. Could it be that he was right and that their group had already lost their early luck and was in decline? This frightened them, because they knew to what extent their professional environment was competitive and could oust them at any time, at the slightest fault. And today, Seokjin had narrowly escaped an early end to his career.

Everyone was imagining what would have happened to the group if that had been the case. Could they have continued without him? What was certain now was that Jungkook would not have been able to continue. And without Jungkook, it was an unmistakable ending for BTS, that's what they all thought.

The end of BTS... this thought was enough to make the atmosphere in the room chilly and make them shiver.

Jimin, his throat too tight, ended up giving up eating and putting down his spoon. He was far too empathetic to only think about the future of BTS.

"We can't let Jungkook continue to feel guilty like this," he finally murmured with pain. "Jin hyung never wanted him to get hurt, that's why he pushed him and took the hit for him, Jungkook needs to understand that."

"It's certain but like Namjoon said, better wait for Jin hyung to return, because I'm not sure he'll be able to understand it tonight," Yoongi replied.

"No, it's all of you who don't understand!"

Like one man, everyone turned towards the door of the dining room where Jungkook had just appeared, whose eyes were red and swollen from crying too much.

"Jungkookie, are you okay?" Jimin asked, getting up to meet him.

He stopped short when he saw what Jungkook was holding in his hand and which made him look like a crying child who couldn't find his mother.

"Jungkook, what are you doing with a doll?" Jimin asked, puzzled.
