Chapter 6: I give up, you're too stupid
Taehyung was furious. He had thought – hoped – that Seokjin would follow him and apologize and then things would go back to normal. It was him he wanted to spend the evening with, no one else.
But Seokjin hadn't joined him. He had stayed with Jungkook and now Taehyung found himself with a group of young people who were trying to make conversation with him when he clearly didn't care. The guests continued to arrive and disperse. He already couldn't wait for the party to end and for him to return to the serenity of Seokjin's room. And Seokjin's presence obviously.
While Jimin had offered to go get something to eat for the two of them, he suddenly saw a girl with short but beautiful curly hair and a glittery pink dress who looked smug next to a friendly-looking boy in suit that she was holding by the arm. Taehyung knew, having already seen him from afar, that it was Yoona's brother, a year older than them.
"What are you doing here?" Taehyung asked Yoona aggressively, ignoring his brother who appeared to him as an extra of no importance.
"Your parents invited me," his former girlfriend told him, giving him an evil smile. "They are going to do business with my parents and your mother even apologized to me when she learned that you had dumped me and had been mean to me. I think she likes me. To be honest, I even think she wants to make you my fiancé, as it could do good for both of our companies and as you are only the youngest of the Kims."
She said it with contempt, as if she considered Taehyung second choice after Namjoon, who would be the main heir to her family's company and the family fortune.
"That won't even happen in hell," Taehyung replied, "now, I forbid you from talking to my mother or I will shave off what hair is left of you so that she will never think again she will never think of marrying you to me again."
Next to Yoona, her brother didn't flinch, not giving the impression that he was bothered by seeing his sister being threatened like this. Taehyung looked at him with contempt, but didn't try to get into a confrontation with him. In fact, his perpetual smile annoyed him. Was he simple-minded? Jimin also smiled all the time, but he also acted and didn't have a goofy look on his face. He probably wasn't someone he should be wary of. Of the two siblings, Yoona was obviously the only one with a sharp tongue and such a vile mind.
"Are you still mad at me for what happened to your little minion?"
Taehyung immediately understood that she was talking about Seokjin and his face tightened.
"You see? I was telling you the truth: Taehyung is infatuated with a beggar!" Yoona said with a triumphant air to her brother before asking Taehyung: "Where is that beggar anyway? I would like to go and greet him and I thought I saw him stuck to you."
"You won't go near him, neither today nor ever, you hear me?" Taehyung roared.
"Still protecting him I see. But Taehyung," Yoona said, moving closer to his ear to say : "tonight is not a night where you want to see everyone making fun of you realizing that you would rather be accompanied by a beggar than by your peers, aren't you? If so, I can take it upon myself to tell everyone and as soon as they see you with him and that they will understand that you rejected me out of friendship for him, your future will be ruined."
Taehyung roughly pushed her away from him.
"You're the one who's done for, I will make sure," he threatened.
"I'm not sure about that. Either you come dance with me later and be nice to me in front of all of your guests, or tonight I will destroy your life. Nothing would make me happier."
"I knew Yoona was a snake, it's obviousy in her blood," a mocking voice said.
With annoyance, Taehyung turned to his brother who had just appeared behind him, in his black suit. He had taken so long to show up that Taehyung suspected that his parents' perfect child had taken the trouble to greet all the distinguished guests one by one.
The two siblings were now facing each other and Namjoon quickly broke the silence:
"I would admire her if I knew that she was the mastermind of her schemes."
He smiled at Yoona and surprisingly, she returned the smile, as if she knew what he meant. As for Taehyung, he was confused.
"What do you mean?" He asked his brother.
"I mean you're stupid and instead of talking to Yoona that you had already submitted to you at school, you need to settle your scores with her brother because he's the real mastermind now. If you end up married to Yoona soon, it will be because he succeeded. Isn't that, Jung Hoseok?"
Perplexed, Taehyung turned to Hoseok who had not stopped smiling. However, a mischievous glint shone in his eyes and he realized that as usual, his brother was not wrong.
The reason why Yoona seemed so confident again even though the last time he saw her, she was at his feet, was because her brother was with her. And she wouldn't have felt so confident if her brother had really been the simpleton Taehyung had first taken him for. Hoseok's eyes shone with intelligence and Taehyung blamed himself for ignoring him.
"You've observed my little brother enough, don't you? Now tell us what you think, I want to know everything," Namjoon said.
"I am surprised. I thought the Kims were all ugly and smart like you. But there is one who is handsome but has nothing in his brain. It's fun and it'll make things easier for me!" He burst out laughing.
Furious, Taehyung wanted to throw himself at him but his brother held him back by the collar of his shirt like he would have done with a rabid dog.
"Control yourself, we are surrounded by all of Seoul's high society. If you're mad at him for calling you an idiot, at least don't prove him right!" Namjoon told him sharply.
Taehyung pulled away with a quick gesture but couldn't stop Hoseok from leaving, smiling and taking his sister with him, who said mischievously:
"See you later on the dance floor, Taehyung, we are going to be the royal couple of this evening, like in the good old days!"
Furious, Taehyung gave up following them but turned to Namjoon and said:
"I'm mad at you first, because you knew Yoona's brother but you never say anything about him who would have made me wary of Yoona! Why?!"
"Hoseok wasn't at Gugbo Middle School, and I only met him this year at Eunma, so long after you got together with Yoona. So don't blame me, idiot, and take responsibility or you'll get eaten like a sheep in Eunma. I know you've always seen yourself as the strongest at house and at school, but there, you'll only be the last to arrive, keep that in mind."
"Our family is more-"
"Forget it, our family is not the most powerful in the country and anyway, in this school, it's not just your family that will make you powerful and influential. It works differently there, it's another world! Yoona's father is ours' subordinate and yet, does Hoseok seems afraid of us?"
Taehyung didn't answer but the answer was obvious: no, Hoseok obviously wasn't afraid of Namjoon or himself. Seeing that he understood, Namjoon said to him:
"Hoseok knows very well that in a few weeks we will be back at school and he can do whatever he wants with you. It's there that your duel will actually play out, not here."
"Let him try and he'll see what happens to him!" Taehyung retorted.
Namjoon sighed.
"I give up, you're too stupid for me. I can't wait to see you discover the harsh reality by yourself: you will learn everything the hard way."
"You can dream, It won't happen!" Taehyung replied, satisfied to remember something Namjoon didn't know.
"Why? Because you think father will let you go to Whimoon with Seokjin?" Namjoon asked with a grin.
Stunned, Taehyung remained silent.
"What? You really thought Jin wouldn't tell me? It's not knowing him well : he tells me everything! But he also doesn't know me well to think that I'm going to let you go there with him when he doesn't want to."
Taehyung was hurt. He thought that since he made this decision, his relationship with Seokjin had improved so much that Seokjin was now happy for him to come with him. But in reality, he had talked to Namjoon behind his back and the two of them had plotted against him to make him go to Eunma?
"Oops, I just remembered Jin didn't want me to tell you about it. I guess it's too late! Where is Jin anyway? I'm going to get him, he can't be left alone while those snake are here and wants to harm him."
And with that, he left Taehyung alone. Taehyung didn't try to catch up with him. Without waiting for Jimin to return, he instead set out to find Seokjin to settle scores with him. Since Seokjin saw Jungkook as a football player, Taehyung knew exactly where to find them both and he didn't bother telling Namjoon who had gone in the opposite direction.
Out of breath, Seokjin was over the moon. Next to his house, where he had always played, alone or with Taehyung, he faced one on one the best opponent he had had in his life. The difficulty added fun to the sport he had always played and he would have liked to continue playing like this forever, without ever stopping.
However, at one point, Jungkook caught the ball with his hands instead of his foot, ending their duel and it filled Seokjin with disappointment.
"Why are we stopping?" he asked, nevertheless unbuttoning the collar of his shirt because he was very hot.
He and Jungkook started playing in their suits and ended up taking off their tuxedo jackets because they were sweating profusely underneath. Then Jungkook had finally taken off his shirt too, showing Seokjin his already well sculpted body for a young teenager, which had made Seokjin jealous and wanting to start bulking up more.
When Jungkook had encouraged him to do the same and undress, under the pretext that no guest would go that far into the park, towards the Kim servants' house, Seokjin vehemently refused. Jungkook must have thought that he was too shy to go shirtless in front of him, but the reality was that Seokjin couldn't go shirtless in front of anyone, at the risk of exposing the secret that the Kims had always made him keep: the impressive scar caused by Taehyung's angry gesture when they were little.
"I want to continue, please!" Seokjin pleaded, catching his breath.
"No, now that I know you're sick, I can't pretend it's nothing. You're exhausted and I don't want Taehyung to come and say that I wanted to kill you again."
"But we don't care, I swear!" exclaimed Seokjin who wanted to resume the game but who was visibly exhausted.
"We'll see after if we can restart the game, but for now, I think a break is necessary. Can you go get us a drink at home? And maybe your medications?"
"I don't need medicine, I'll just get some water," Seokjin grumbled sulkily as Jungkook laughed at his childish behavior.
