Chapter 12: He did something really bad to you
Happy without really knowing why, Seokjin trotted down the main path to reach the mansion. Along the way, he ended up realizing that flapping his arms wouldn't allow him to fly away and even if it had frustrated him a little at first, he quickly found a smile again because he was soon going to see Namjoon.
Namjoon hadn't seen him all night yet and he couldn't wait for him to tell him how handsome he looked in his new suit.
"Joonie always says nice things to me!" he said, smiling to himself, eager to see his friend. "He's my favorite person on Earth. If I have to fly in the sky to the moon, I'll take him with me. I hope he's in his room, but what if he's not? Maybe I should look for it in the garden?"
Arriving towards the mansion, Seokjin saw that most of the guests were gathered around the banquet tables: it was time to serve the dessert and he realized that he was really hungry, especially after playing football on an empty stomach. He wanted to eat and he figured Taehyung wouldn't know he stopped to eat until he went inside the house.
"Seokjin, I can't believe my eyes!" his mother exclaimed as she came towards him with an empty tray in her hands.
"Mom! Taehyung gave me this suit, I look good in it, huh?" Seokjin asked in a slow voice and with a bright smile.
"The most beautiful of all, sweetie, it seems like you are the main character of this party!" Yoko assured. "But your hair is all messy, let me fix it a little."
"Ah, it was Mr. Jeon who messed up my hair," Seokjin remembered with a chuckle as his mother gently fixed his hair with one hand.
"Mr. Jeon?" Yoko repeated, a little worried as, like all Kim employees, she knew that he was the brother-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Kim. She also knew the relations between the two families and did not want to see her son find himself caught in a conflict that did not concern him. "Why, have you had anything to do with him?"
"He's Jungkook's dad, do you remember Jungkook? I told you about him, he was my opponent during the final. That means he's Tae and Joonie's cousin, do you realize, mum?!"
"Ah really?"
"I find it incredible, don't you?!"
A little surprised at the way her son spoke more than what he had just taught her, Yoko asked:
"Seokjin, why are you shouting like that?"
"Ah, sorry mom, but you absolutely have to know something else, it's important!" Seokjin apologized but continued to shout: "Jungkook is the one who saved my life during the final of the championship! I didn't know that but Tae knew, I was so mad at him!! At Taehyung, not at Jungkook, do you understand mom?!"
"Um, yes, I think so. But that's a lot of information at once Seokjin," Yoko admitted, who was surprised to learn all this. "I'd like to meet him and thank him, so introduce him to me as soon as he's around. You seem to like him, he must be a nice guy."
In reality, she also wanted to make sure that as Taehyung's cousin, Jungkook didn't have the same explosive sides and violent tendencies because she couldn't stand for her son to suffer again from such a dangerous friend.
She had been relieved, upon meeting Jimin, to find that he seemed to be a lovely boy to Seokjin even though he seemed to have the same possessive side as Taehyung towards Seokjin. This didn't seem to bother Seokjin though. In any case, he had only said good things about Jimin. But she knew her son had the annoying tendency to say good things about everyone, even when those people had hurt him.
This was why she absolutely had to monitor who he was with and protect him since he seemed to attract the wrong people without him being able to get rid of them. She had been forced to accept Taehyung because he was the son of her employers but that wouldn't happen with others: if they were bad for her son, she would keep them away from him as much as possible without thinking twice.
"Do you think so too?!" Seokjin exclaimed, excited. "I'm happy, I knew you would love him too, I love you mom!"
"Um, I love you too, sweetie," his mother replied, a little surprised. Seokjin seemed particularly enthusiastic and even though it was in his nature, it seemed a little excessive that evening. "Baby, are you okay? You look a little..." she seemed to be thinking of a way to say the weird thing she wanted to say.
"Happy?!" Seokjin completed with a smile. "It's because I am, mom. This party is sooo cool! I'm so glad I was invited! Ah I would like to introduce you to Jungkook right away but unfortunately, he's not with me, he stayed with Tae towards our house. We played football together towards the house but then Jungkook was a little sad because of what we heard in the forest but then he was very very happy! And he also gave me a little of his happiness! I look happy, right?!" Seokjin asked, smiling and starting to flap his arms like he did earlier. "I want to fly to the moon but I'm waiting for Joonie."
"Seokjin, what are you doing?" his mother asked, perplexed. "And what does that mean, he 'gave you a little of his happiness'?"
"Mmm, I don't know exactly but he inhaled the smoke as I inhale my ventolin and then, he gave it to me. Right in my mouth!" Seokjin exclaimed while pointing inside his mouth with his finger. "It's a little weird the first time and I thought I was going to choke but he said afterward it was fine. And he told the truth, because that's more than fine. That's so good, he is a good friend!"
"W-what?"
Yoko seemed stunned and dropped her tray into the grass under the outraged gaze of a group of women a few steps away. She even saw in the distance, Mrs. Kim who seemed to be coming back from the bottom of the garden, alone, and who had her eyes glued to her and to Seokjin while she walked very slowly in their direction.
Yoko realized that Seokjin was not in his normal state and she hurriedly dragged him away from the other guests to avoid anyone hearing and Seokjin causing trouble for an heir and doesn't get in trouble himself because of this.
"Seokjin, can you repeat to me what you just said to me, please? It's very important."
"Yes, I can, mom. Jungkook gave me his magic smoke that makes happy. Oh wait... that's not how I told you earlier," he said with a frown, as if trying to remember how he had explained things a few seconds earlier. "Sorry, mom, I think I don't know anymore."
"Seokjin, do you mean you took... drugs?" Yoko whispered, afraid to hear the answer.
"Oooh, you found what it's called, I didn't remember!" Seokjin said while clapping very loudly. "That's it and besides, Jungkook said I was high. That means I'm a flying angel. Um no, that's not it... that means I'm happy now! But then Tae came and stopped me from staying and playing with Jungkook. He told me to go home without talking to anyone. He said I need to go to his room and close the door. But I told him I'll go to Namjoon's because he was mean to me."
He didn't realizethat what he had just said had hit his mother like a bomb and he smiled at her as if nothing had happened and waited for her to smile back, as usual. Meanwhile, Yoko was devastated and had no intention of smiling.
The Jeons' son had drugged Seokjin.
That was all Yoko feared: that one of these heirs would take advantage of her son's gullibility to harm him and that's what Jungkook had done. Yoko looked like she was about to faint but she had to keep her composure: she had to protect her son at all costs. No one should see Seokjin in this state or his sports career would be forever ruined because of an heir who would continue his life as if nothing had happened thanks to his family's money and power.
"Mom, why don't you smile at me," Seokjin asked sadly.
"I'm sorry, baby" Yoko quickly apologized, giving him a quick little smile, before saying, just as quickly: "Seokjin, please, I want you to do something for me, will you?"
"Of course mom, anything for you!" Seokjinexclaimed, smiling again, happy to be able to please his mother.
"Thank you sweetie," she said, "I want you to do as you said Taehyung: quickly go up to Namjoon's room and lock the door, don't let anyone in except me, Taehyung or Namjoon, okay? No one should see you like this, do you undersand?"
"Not even Jungkook?" Seokjin asked with a frown.
"Especially him!" Yoko hastened to say with a dark expression that Seokjin noticed.
"Why do you seem angry with him all of a sudden?" Seokjin asked with tears in his eyes. "I thought you loved my friend but you hate him, like Tae hates him? Why?!"
"Because he did something really, really bad to you, Seokjin, I know you don't realize it right now, but he did. He's not a good person despite what you think of him, I'm really sorry."
"Yes, he's a good person because he saved me and he likes to play football with me, have you forgotten?" Seokjin said, very upset.
"I haven't forgotten but that doesn't give him the right to hurt you. And we already talked about it Seokjin: just because someone likes football doesn't make them a good person."
"I told you he made me happy, if you say he's not a good person, does that mean you think he's mean? Well, tonight I think it's you who's mean, mom!"
Seokjin's mother widened her eyes upon hearing Seokjin speak to her like that for the first time. But soon he started crying and whine:
"I didn't mean that, I'm sorry mom..."
She hurried to hug him:
"It's okay Seokjin, I don't blame you, it's not your fault. It's going to be okay soon but I want you to go wait for me in Namjoon's room, you can do that?"
She pulled away from him to look him in the eyes and wiped the tears from his face and was surprised to see a big smile on his face. He beamed, as if he had already forgotten that he was sad and crying.
"I can do that but..." he said, frowning.
"But what, Seokjin?"
"But I'm hungry, mom, I wanted to eat before going upstairs. And also, I wanted to go find Namjoon."
"I'll bring you something to eat there," Yoko promised immediately. "But for now, go wait in Namjoon's room. I'll also go find him and ask him to join you as fast he can, okay?"
Seokjin seemed very happy to know that he was going to see Namjoon soon.
"Okay mom! But please be quick, my stomach is growling loudly."
Relieved that her son was so obedient, Yoko watched him walk through a crowd of invitees dancing a little in rhythm with the slow music of the orchestra in a comical way, and then through the imposing main gate of the mansion before disappearing inside.
She could hardly follow him while she was working, especially since she had felt Mrs. Kim's heavy gaze falling on her and never letting go. She picked up her tray and resumed her service while looking discreetly for Namjoon because she was very afraid of Seokjin being alone.
"What's happening to Seokjin?" Mrs. Kim asked when Yoko passed by her, to check that Seokjin had held his tongue about her.
"Oh, nothing," Yoko lied, "he just wanted to show me the costume that Mr. Taehyung generously allowed him to wear. I hadn't seen him yet all evening and it was important to him and was very moved that I saw him like that. But since his hair was a little disheveled and he cried a little, I told him to find a batheroom to fix his hair and refresh his face before the ball later."
Mrs. Kim snorted contemptuously.
"He cannot pretend to dance with a daughter of our rich associates."
"I know that very well, Madam, but I was hoping to be able to dance a little with my son, away from the guests," said Yoko, who, even if she really wanted to do it to celebrate her son's success as Mrs. Kim was celebrating her son's success now, could no longer imagine dancing with her son so that he was under the influence of drugs. As soon as she could, she would slip away to join him.
"You will do it after the party, at your own house," said Mrs. Kim, who had no desire for her guests to see servants dancing among or near them.
"That's understood, Madam," Yoko assured without arguing more than reason.
"Very well,"Mrs. Kim appreciated it. She never had anything to say about Yoko's attitude, who was always impeccable probably in the desire not to harm her son indirectly. "Now, continue your service, I must not see my guests' glasses empty."
Yoko nodded respectfully and continued to wander around the garden looking for Namjoon. However, she had the impression that many young heirs had disappeared and that mainly the parents remained.
Where had they all gone?
