Chapter Twelve: Fitz
Apparently, back in my room, Donovan and Benen must've noticed my scowl because they simultaneously ask, "What happened?"
I sigh. Smirking bitterly, I say, "Mr. Wallace decided to visit Laurel and Audrey while I was telling Sophie about my scar, and-"
Donovan's eyes widen considerably. "You told her?!" he practically shouts, sitting upright.
Rolling my eyes, I nod. "Yes, I did," I say. "You want to tell the whole world for me or can we continue?" I ask sarcastically, raising an eyebrow at the male Sovereign. Chuckling softly when Donovan teasingly glares at me, I say, "Laurel tried to tell him to leave, but he only left when Audrey threatened him with pranks."
Benen pales slightly. "Did that actually work?" he asks.
The male Sovereign rolls his eyes. "It most likely did," Donovan admits. "But knowing Audrey, she'll still find ways to prank him." Cracking his knuckles, he adds with a smirk, "And so will I."
I can't help but start laughing. "I still remember when you tried to prank Mr. Wallace, but you ended up getting itching powder on your feet instead," I say through chuckles, a smile forming on my face.
The male Altruistic starts laughing at this, but cracks up when Donovan starts to pout like a child. When Donovan crosses his arms, Benen and I laugh so hard that we're on our backs, crying tears of laughter and clutching our stomachs. We can hear that Donovan's laughter has mixed in with ours, making the three of us laugh even more.
"I'm pretty sure that Audrey's done better pranks than you," Benen says after the three of us sit up.
"Like what?" Donovan challenges.
"The spider in Sophie's room," Benen says off of the top of his head. "Did that really freak Sophie out?"
I shrug. "No one truly likes spiders, so I'm not surprised by her reaction," I say honestly. "I would be surprised if someone didn't freak out."
Donovan smirks, "So you're also not surprised that she ran into a room, collided with a special someone, and the two of them fell over?" He raises his eyebrow at me, making my face warm slightly.
Benen laughs, and I retort, "I like how you're laughing, but you're the one who's actually kissed his partner." When the male Altruistic blushes madly, Donovan and I smirk before high-fiving each other at the victory.
Pointing at me, he says, "You were so close to kissing her- multiple times, might I say- and..." Turning
to Donovan, he continues, "You kissed Audrey on the cheek."
"Dang," Donovan finally says, smirking at how much I'm blushing compared to him. "I'm still getting used to the rebel that Benen has within him," he comments, earning an eye roll from Benen and myself. Throwing our pillows into our faces, Donovan collapses onto his own pillow. Yawning obnoxiously loudly, the male Sovereign falls asleep in a matter of seconds, managing to snore loudly.
Benen and I look at each other. "I'm pretty tired as well," he says, and I nod in agreement. Wishing each other a goodnight, the two of us lay down as well. Before I know it, I've transmitted, Goodnight, to Sophie.
Goodnight, Fitz, Sophie transmits back, making me sit up from surprise. Smiling, I close my eyes and fall asleep like everyone else.
...
Suddenly, I feel a pair of hands jolting me awake. My now open eyes dart around within the darkness, trying to make out whatever's shaking me. I finally look up to see the silhouette of a man looming over me, his facial features unrecognizable from the lack of light. "You- weren't- supposed- to- tell- her," he says in a gravely voice, shaking me again with every word he says. Suddenly, I see the glint of a gun as the stranger points it towards me.
And then I glow a dark blue.
Realizing what's about to happen, I dash out the door and down the hallway, trying to get into the elevator before the whole room is covered with a white light. Once the elevator starts to move, the white light finally blinds my vision. This time, my scar doesn't hurt, but the blinding light still appears before I turn into a dragon.
I barely see the elevator doors open again since the blinding light finally dies down. I don't waste time rushing down the ground floor hallway to see Steven. As I near the actual laboratory, I realize that the doors haven't been replaced, so I slip through the gaping hole I caused days prior. Although it's dark, I can see the second pair of laboratory doors with a hole similar to the main doors.
Suddenly, I see Steven rush outside and turn on the laboratory lights, his eyes wide when he sees me. "What happened?!" he shouts up at me. I open my mouth to say something, but a beastly scream escapes my lips instead. I mentally facepalm myself- dragons can't talk. Instead, I transmit to the pathologist, There was someone in my room and-
I'm interrupted mid-transmission when a shadowy figure wearing a black, hooded cloa rushes into the room as well, two archances in his hands. Pointing one at each of us, the figure says in the same raspy voice, "One step anywhere and you'll have amnesia that'll be like a coma."
Narrowing my eyes at the ground, I stare at the threatening figure. And although I forgot most things because of the nebmentia last year...
I still remember the grey irises that belonged to them specifically.
Roaring, I circle around in the air. When the figure tries to shoot nebmentia at me, I quickly dodge them before charging towards him. He's too shocked to move momentarily, but that's enough time for me to throw him out the lab. And as he's flying, I feel another sphere of mental energy forming in my head. I wait until the cloaked man collides with the ground before I release the sphere, the white light that erases everyone's memories of me blinding the room temporarily.
Just as the white light begins to fade, I see that I'm glowing a dark blue. A few seconds later, I'm human again and I'm plummeting towards the ground. Landing on my back painfully, I let out a gasp of agony before slowly pushing myself up. Running a hand through my hair, I try to ignore the pain throughout my body.
Not even a few moments pass before a dark blue crystal whizzes past my ear. My eyes wide, I see the shadowed figure not waste any time in reloading and firing repeatedly. I momentarily stop the nebmentia flying near me so I can run out of the way. Stopping every other crystal so I can pass by, I don't look back to see the crystals shatter when they collide with the wall or the ground.
Soon enough, I'm nearing the stranger. I notice that this specific person has the grey iris on their left eye, making me think that they prefer to use their left hand, even though they showed that they're capable of using their right hand if necessary. Narrowing my eyebrows, I manage to kick the man in the ribs, making him bend over to take in some air. Using this to my advantage, I use my telekinesis to throw him into the main lobby, anger flowing throughout my veins.
I'm about to catch up to the stranger when Steven calls out to me, "Don't, Fitz! Stay here!" I turn around abruptly to see Steven run up to me. "He's not worth it," Steven says between massive gasps of air. Grabbing my arm, he leads me back to the laboratory. "Now you need to explain what the heck just happened."
Sighing, I say, "I woke up to someone shaking me awake. I couldn't see who it was, but they had a gravely voice. He was telling me that I shouldn't have told her, and then pointed something at me." Sitting on the metal table when we arrive at our destination, I continue, "I don't what it was, but it triggered my transformation. I ran down the hallway fast enough so I could transform in the elevator."
"Where were you trying to go?" Steven asks, handing me a cup of warm black tea. He sips a cup of tea himself, looking at me for an answer.
Thanking him, I take a sip of my own before saying, "I was heading here. I thought that if I was going to transform anywhere, might as well be here."
Steven curses under his breath. "I don't remember that," he finally says. "Did you use that forgetting light of yours?"
I nod. "And I had control over it again," I add. My eyes widen as I remember something, "I also didn't feel any pain from my scar."
The forensic pathologist almost does a spit take. "That's certainly new," he murmurs, taking a long sip of his tea. Clearing his throat, Steven asks, "Did you wake anyone up?"
"Yes," a familiar voice sounds as she enters the laboratory. Looking at me, Sophie asks, "Fitz, what happened?"
But before she can say more, the female Percipient's slammed into the wall with what I'm assuming to be telekinesis. Dropping my mug, I rush over to her. "Sophie?" I voice. "Sophie!" I see her open her brown eyes before telekinesis forces me to collide with the far wall.
And as I slump against the wall painfully, I see the cloaked stranger walk into the laboratory again.
