Chapter Fourteen: Fitz

Suddenly, I see Mr. Wallace step back as Sophie flies back into the air. My eyes widening, I jump up and point two fingers at Sophie, halting her in midair before she can slam into the wall behind her. I pull her slightly closer to see if she had hit the wall before I'd stopped her. I sigh in relief when I find no bruises.

Only when Sophie gasps at me do I realize that I'm also in midair. Sighing, I say, "You almost crashed into the wall."

Sophie glares at Mr. Wallace. "I wonder why," she breathes.

We both look into each other's eyes at the same time, her brown eyes brighter with the closeness to the ceiling light. And then I feel a force slamming me into the wall behind me. As both of us are lifted away from the wall, I see Mr. Wallace lift his arms again. Angered, I lift my hand as well, making the aged man levitate in the air. Sophie notices as well, and she helps me lift Mr. Wallace to our height.

But before we can do anything else, he slams both of us into the wall again, this time rendering us unconscious.

And Mr. Wallace unintentionally let himself fall from midair.

...

I groan as I sit myself up, my head throbbing. I place my hand to the back of my head, flinching when I feel gauze wrapped around my head. When Benen jumps up and rushes over to me, I gingerly finger my newly-obtained bandages, wincing at the pain. "What happened?" I ask, tilting my head to stretch my neck muscles.

"Well," Benen begins. Taking a deep breath, he says, "So Sophie began flying towards a wall, and then you decided to save her by flying, uh... telekinesis-ing in midair and saving her. You two looked at each other before slamming into opposing walls. And then you and Sophie lifted Mr. Wallace into the air before slamming into the wall again. You two fell, and Mr. Wallace fell as well. You two were blacked out, but Mr. Wallace was able to stop himself from falling."

As I try to wrap my head around that mouthful of an explanation, I just nod. "Why was it so important to say that we looked at each other?"

Benen smirks. "Because you didn't blush that time."

I frown. "Why would I blush?"

Benen's smirk falls away completely. "Wait- what?" He then walks closer to me. "Fitz," he begins, looking genuinely concerned. "Who do you have a crush on?"

I raise an eyebrow. "No one," I say after thinking. "I don't think about any girl that way."

The male Altruistic snaps his fingers in front of my face like I can't see, making me frown slightly. After a few seconds of this, Benen whispers, "This is bad. Are you suffering through that..." He frowns more, trying to think of the correct word.

"Are you thinking of amnesia?" I pipe up. "Like if you forget a memory or something that happened already?"

He nods. "You remember that," he begins as he walks in a circle. "But you can't remember her. Ugh- this is bad." After a moment, he shouts loudly, "LAUREL!"

The connecting door practically slams open to reveal a rosy-cheeked Laurel. "What happened?!" Laurel says breathlessly, rushing over to Benen's side.

Benen points to me like I have a disease. "He doesn't remember when he admitted the thing about her."

"WHAT?!" Laurel screams. "NO! Did the ship sink?!" She screams when Benen nods.

The three of us suddenly look over to see Sophie frantically rushing over into my room as well. "Laurel- what happened, for God's sake?!"

Laurel's eyes widen. "Sophie- check his mind!"

Sophie frowns. "For what?" she asks.

"Any romantic feelings of any kind!" Laurel exclaims. Both Sophie and I pale at this, but Laurel just rolls her eyes. Grabbing her hand, she practically slaps it onto my forehead. I flinch when Laurel yells, "Check HIM!"

Sophie hold a hand up to calm her. "Okay, okay," she mutters. She closes her eyes, and then I feel a warmth spread through my head. I assume that it's Sophie and straighten up. Sure, I don't think I have any embarrassing memories, but it still feels uncomfortable knowing that she's in my head.

After a few moments of silence, Sophie stands up again. "I don't sense anything," she mumbles, still confused with the strange request like I am.

Laurel's eyes practically bulge out of her sockets as she screams. "What's happened?!" she says, shaking Benen wildly by his shoulders.

"Insomnia," Benen says.

I roll my eyes again, standing up. Unraveling the bloodless gauze, I correct the male Altruistic, "It's amnesia." Sighing, I add, "And I don't have amnesia. I haven't forgotten anything."

Sophie taps her chin. "Maybe what you're looking for is the submerged memory..?" she tries.

"What was the submerged memory?" I ask, remembering how I never got a reply for it.

Sophie ponders for a moment. Looking at me, she asks, "Do you remember seeing me in the warehouse?"

I cringe as that memory pops up in my mind again. "Yeah," I say, my fists tightening in anger involuntarily. Looking up at Sophie again, I ask, "Why?"

Sophie's face pales at my response. "But..." she begins. She furrows her brows before putting her fingers to my right temple. Before I can say something, another wave of warmth spreads through my mind. This time, it's so rushed that it feels like my brain's in a sauna. She mumbles something, but I can't hear her.

I only know what Sophie's talking about when Laurel exclaims, "That's what should've been submerged?!"

Sophie merely nods, paling more.

But before she can say something, Mr. Wallace rushes in. "We've found something," he says, catching his breath. Looking at the four of us, he asks, "Did something happen?"

The four of us shake our heads. "What'd you find?" I ask instead, pretending like he totally didn't slam two teenagers into a wall.

Mr. Wallace merely points to the elevator. "I'll just show you," he says.

I raise an eyebrow. "Is there a person involved?"

He nods. "Do you know Fitton Galster?"
