Chapter 16 : A New Guy In My Life
Game night was so fun, and I wasn't just talking about winning an Amazon gift card and few other stuff. Right after that, I went back to my room, feeling the content of my victory with all those prices I won that night.
It was such a great day. I shopped for new clothes and make up, I won game night, and the best of all, I... hugged Roy. I knew it was weird, like very weird, but I began liking him even more.
I understood that he was not Topher, just a guy who looked like him. However, they were two different person and I saw that. The problem was, who could understand how I was feeling back then towards this guy?
I lied down, smiling from ear-to-ear as I remembered him hugging me. Even though, it was sort of an accident. We were just so thrilled that we won the Heads Up game together.
But then, I didn't expect him to feel the same way I did. Plus, I didn't want to assume that just because he and I had been sort close lately. Although deep inside me, I was hoping that he might.
I was about to change into my PJs when I heard a notification from my phone. It was him. He followed me on Instagram.
My heart was beating so fast that I could hardly breathe. Also, I was relieved that he followed my business account rather than my personal account which is set on private until now.
You see, my business account is for my life's work as a fashion photographer, so they are mostly my portfolios, and it is the most active account. That also means that there's no Topher in any of my post.
There are times, I use my business account for personal use sometimes since I use it a lot just for... promoting reasons. Maybe, it's not the best reason. I posted my internship in New York where I worked with Gigi Haded and Cara Delevigne.
In the end, my day was getting better and better.
I checked my personal account a minute later after I followed him back. The thing was, I hadn't opened it since he was gone. Not that I didn't feel like looking at it before, it just lost in my mind. Like I said, I rarely use it.
At that moment, I decided to look at it as I laid on my stomach on the bed. At first, I thought it would be painful and that I was going to cry again, but I didn't. I was able to look at those photos without feeling hurt. All I felt was nostalgia.
I scrolled all the way down and read each of the description I wrote down with it. All these memory we made, I remembered them all and replay them in my mind like it was a movie.
There was this one blooper video that we posted in one of our travels. We went to Japan and we found a perfect spot to take a picture of us with Mt. Fuji at the back. I remember we used his phone and put it on a stand.
We looked at the it and we were smiling for what felt like fifteen seconds instead of five. That was when he noticed something on his screen, "Oops! It's set on video," he said with a cringe on his face.
"No wonder my cheeks hurt," I joked.
After that, we both laughed together. I decided to post it since it was really funny. A memory that I wanted to keep in my mind and in my heart.
I scrolled down until it got to 2013. It was the year when we started our relationship. That era was when could make your pictures into a collage. I post out first date together. The time we ate at Love Saigon, our favorite restaurant, and by Mt. Hummi. It was where we had our first kiss.
I stopped and exited the app. All of a sudden, there were more notifications that he was liking my editorial works. I felt so giddy like a school girl. Especially, when he complimented how I looked that night. It kept replaying in my head.
----
Two days later, I had to go back to work. I woke up a bit late because I failed to wake up on time, but that didn't mean that I was going to be late. Regardless, I was in a rush. I was dressed for work, grabbed my camera, and went straight to the dining area to get a coffee to-go.
I came early anyway so, I had time to do my makeup and I wore my new outfit that I bought. Eventually, Linus and Mav came. "Hey," they said at the same time.
Mav noticed my new look. "Wow! Peps, is that you?" she gasped.
"Yeah..." I answered. I wasn't sure what kind of reaction was that.
"You look great," Linus remarked.
"Really?"
"Yeah, you do, and your outfit, I love it," Mav agreed. "What did you do?"
I blushed. I didn't even expected that. "I uhm... did some shopping the other day, and thought of trying a new look," I explained.
"You look amazing. You know, that color really goes with your color. You should use that all the time."
From that reaction, I couldn't decline. "I will."
"Well, anyway, the client will be here in an hour," Linus reminded. "Let's go set up the rooms."
"Okay." I was about to get my camera, until I realized that I did not have it with me. "Oh! no."
"What?"
"I forgot my camera. Oh! my God. I must've left it in the inn..." I whimpered. I get very distress when I forgotten something because I usually remember everything. "This is so unlike me to..."
"Hey! Calm down," Mav told me. "You can use mine."
"Really?"
"Yeah, I'm just going to edit all day, so go ahead." Mav lent me her camera.
I gave her a hug. "Thank you, you are my hero."
Later, while I was helping Linus set up for the continuation of the photoshoot. I remember that I forgotten something.
I was still getting compliments from Jo and Emmy when they came in. They could not get enough of my new look.
I was flattered of course, taking all in until it lasts. "You should definitely use that liptint all the time. I fell in love with it when I saw you by the food truck," Emmy advised to me while fixing the sleeves of the suit that a male model was wearing. "It brings out your eyes and you look stunning, lovely."
"Don't worry, I am planning to," I assured her.
"Can I borrow it some time?"
"Sure."
Jo was there too in the room where Linus and I were going to shoot. She was waiting for her client to arrive, so she decided to hang out for a bit. "Yeah, I want to borrow it too," she added.
"You guys should check out this Korean boutique," I told them.
"Oh, I know that place. I will check that out once I get my pay from my client."
All of a sudden, I notice Emmy was giving me this suspicious look in her face. "Hmm... So are you sure that you're not... hot for someone?" she questioned.
I hated that I lied to her, but I wasn't ready yet to tell her, so I widened my eyes as I looked straight into hers. "No, I don't. I thought we established that. Can you just please stop asking me that?" I grunted.
"I can't help it. I could sense these stuff."
"So just because I changed my look and got new clothes, you assume that I met someone?"
"Do you?"
"No!" I insisted. "Besides, I'm... not ready to meet anyone after... you know. I told you that."
Jo just nodded and looked at me in a sympathetic way. "You look ready to me?" Emmy said bluntly. "Alright, I'm sorry, I was just kidding. I just love your makeup, that's all."
All of a sudden, another male model just came and approached me. "Hey, Peps" he said to me.
"Harley, just in time. The outfit you'll be wearing is at that rack over there. After you change, come back here for some styling," I instructed.
"Alright, by the way, a guy is looking for you outside."
My eyes widened. I immediately knew who it was. "A guy?"
"A guy!" two of my friends gasped with a huge grin in their faces.
"You were right," Jo said to Emmy. "It is because of a guy."
"I KNEW IT!" Emmy shouted. "My instincts are right."
I panicked. I was afraid they would see his face that time. "No..."
"Let's go meet him."
"Let's all meet him. LINUS! MAV! Where are you?!" Emmy ran out with Jo the room as she shouted their names and searching for Linus and Mav. "Pepsi found a new man! Let's go meet him!"
Meanwhile, I looked out the window and saw Roy with the gardener, Roldon, who gave him a ride in his van. So, I rushed downstairs, then managed see him first before the others. "Hey, you left your camera," he told me as he held out my camera bag. "You left it in the coffee station."
"Oh, thanks. I was in a hurry. Hey, Mr. Roldan." I took it from. I was grateful that he had to come to the studio just to bring my camera to me, but I wanted him to get away from there as soon as possible. If I was lucky, he could transport himself back to the inn like Nightwalker from X-Men. "You can go now. See you later."
However, Roy was admiring the old structure of the ancestral home turned photo studio. "So this is your studio. Cool! Can I go inside and see?"
I remember hearing footsteps coming. "I'm sorry, everyone is pretty busy today and doesn't want to be disturbed. Maybe another time. Okay, bye."
"Sure, I get it. Another time then."
"Yup."
I was about to get back inside and Roy was ready to leave, but then my colleague burst through the doors to see "a guy". Plus, Jo's excitement made her screamed, "Wait!"
Because of that it got Roy's attention that he turned around, showing his face to them. With just one look, everyone got quiet and frozen like statues by the main entrance of the studio.
Let's just say I did not bravely faced my colleague as I shifted towards them. "Hey, guys, this is Roy," I introduced him to them. I was stupid to think that it could break the ice or something.
"Hi," Roy said with a wave and an awkward smile on his face.
Yet, no response. Just a mouth wide eopn and their eyes almost popped out from its socket from utter disbelief. For them to see him like he was ghost was an understatement.
