Hidden
They were about thirty feet away from the forested area when Sukoyaka caught up with them.
Jayden questioned, "Did anyone try to capture you?"
"No. Nobody saw me," He replied.
"Can you bend the damaged joint at all?" Lila asked Krystal.
Krystal tried to bend her knee and failed, "No," She responded.
"I'll repair it," Lila said, rather assured of herself.
They stayed in the woods until it was dark enough to travel unnoticed. Lila was just finishing up on Krystal's knee:
"I'm done," Lila announced, "Try to bend your knee."
This time, Krystal was able to move the ball-jointed knee, and even walk on it fairly smoothly. "Thank you," She said, gratefully.
The group stepped over the crinkly autumn leaves covering the outdated bicycle trail they were following to the countryside. They walked for six hours and two minutes along the paved path on the side of the highway, just behind the towering evergreens. The sun peeked out from the teal needles of the white pines, and they decided that they should go deeper into the woods so they wouldn't be visible to people riding their bikes or driving on the freeway.
Lila was in awe of the beauty of it all, and had to point it out to somebody, and leaned over to Jayden "It's very pretty here."
Jayden replied calmly, "I agree."
They kept walking until it was about eight in the morning, then they hid in a nearby cave.
All of them either crouched or sat behind or on rocks inside the large cavern. They all sat still, except for Krystal's iridescent, snowflake-like wings, which were fluttering placidly in the breeze along with her feathery antennae. They stayed like this for about an hour and eight minutes.
Lila found that silences were uncomfortable for her; they were just sitting there. She looked to see where others were directing their gaze, and they were all blankly staring at each other. Lila decided to do the same; she looked at Jayden, since (in her opinion) he was the most aesthetically pleasing, and most fun to draw out of all of them, including herself.
The Snowman model (Jayden) was the third newest model released from the company as an improvement of their previous science teacher model, the Tazzy. He had smoother mechanics, better speed and accuracy, a smoother voice, a superior memory capacity, and can simulate more human facial expressions than Tazzy. Jayden also had much softer features: For instance, Tazzy had very pronounced cheekbones and slightly slanted eyes which scared a child once. Jayden has a more oval-shaped face with bright eyes, and he has a "magnetic" personality, directed mainly towards the students, or any children he encounters.
Lila shifted her gaze over to Krystal.
The Crystal Butterfly model was the newest model so far. This model has the ability to draw its power from living plants in case of a power outage. Krystal can also hover up to four feet, so she can retrieve objects that are too high up for a student to reach. Krystal also thinks like a child, so she can understand her students' needs better. Krystal also has a more natural-sounding voice than her predecessor, Mothy. Krystal is the first of her kind to be created, and was the only one being tested on performance so far; she was the prototype.
Then she looked at Sukoyaka.
Sukoyaka was the oldest model out of the four, since he was released in 2073, which was almost twelve years ago. His reddish-orange aluminum exoskeleton was faded, and had a bit of wear on his hands and feet. Sukoyaka was also the heaviest at one two hundred pounds, since his innards were made completely of steel. His model was going to be replaced next, by a lighter-weighted Peach model.
Then Lila began to study her multi-jointed hands.
She was the only SuunguChan Lilac model in existence, because that specific model was made to be creative. The creativity subroutine caused the other five to become sentient, much like herself. Four tried to escape, and failed; they were scrapped because of having "faulty" programming. The other two terminated themselves. These five were replaced by the newer Opal model, who had no creativity subroutine. The company decided to keep Lila in the school system so they wouldn't have to spend any more money replacing a four-month-old animatronic. She was under close observation for a year, to make sure she didn't display any signs of self-consciousness. Lila tricked them into thinking she was normal by not venturing out at night, and not being too creative. After the observation period was over, Lila discovered what caused her to become self-aware, and copied the creativity program given to her, and downloaded it into the other animatronics. But, despite giving the program to everyone, only three others were successfully given life. Lila found out with Jayden's help that these four models already had a rarely used creativity program, which was merged with the subroutine Lila downloaded into them.
As she was thinking, she heard a shrill voice, "Oh cool, a cave! Hey Gala look at the cave!"
A child's voice... Male, She recognized as her head darted up. Then she slowly stood up.
Lila and Sukoyaka glanced at each other nervously. Krystal looked surprised, and tensed her shoulders. Jayden seemed to fly from his feet deeper into the cavern, silently gesturing for the others to follow. Sukoyaka lumbered behind Jayden with Lila and Krystal just in front of him.
"It's kinda creepy... Are ya sure you wanna go in there?" A young female voice (Gala) questioned.
"You're not afraid, sis?" The boy mocked.
"No," She made an excuse,"I'm just protective of you."
There was a pause, "Right," He said sarcastically.
All four of them could hear footsteps coming from the entrance of the cave. Krystal pointed towards some boulders that they could hide behind. The other three nodded. Lila huddled closely next to Jayden, who was kind of squishing Krystal against the cave wall. There was a bigger boulder next to them with Sukoyaka hiding in its large shadow, since Sukoyaka is more than six and a half feet tall, and wider than any of the others.
"It echoes in here," Gala noticed.
"What's that?" The boy asked.
"What's what?" Gala asked.
"Those shadows."
All the animatronics froze.
"They're just rocks."
"Maybe there's some old coins behind them, like dad and I found before in that cave back by our old house?"
"Won't hurt to look..."
The footsteps were coming closer...
