Chapter 11

But he did. You can bet that my eyes are green, he came back. Far sooner than I'd have hoped. Let him out on account of jealousy. But I didn't think it was jealousy, not with his murderous intent. What was it with him and Gryffindor? I eyed him as he walked into the common room. Juan's brown gaze scanned the common room, finding my eyes. His head shot in my direction. "You disappoint me, Sense," he said, slight aggression in his tone.

"How?"

"By commiserating with that Gryffindor." He said, eyes turning cold.

"Why? I love him." Juan's eyes glinted, not with anger but a different emotion.

"They...."

"They?" I asked and he looked at me. For the first time I saw what looked like pain in his eyes, below the anger.

"They.... They... They can't be trusted!" His voice broke and he raced out of the common room. For once, I actually felt a bit sorry for him. I watched him leave. Juan would've, usually, threatened violence. Had I broken the aggressive Slytherin? Had I made him open up? I had no clue. I saw Alder in the hall and he walked over to me.

"Was it just me or did Juan just run out of your  common room, and in not an aggressive manner?"

"It wasn't just you.... want to follow him?"

"Yeah." We followed Juan out of the grounds. Juan had stopped in the forest and we hid behind a bush.

"Can you hear him?" I whispered and Alder nodded.

"Yeah." We watched Juan walk deeper into the woods and take out a bottle with a dark liquid in it. He appeared to be talking to a bush as it rustled. Alder's eyes widened. "Its a Thestral!" I watched as Juan petted the invisible to me creature. I could just make out what he was saying.

"Hey, Thestry.." He murmured, taking a sip of the dark liquid. "Just you and me... let's talk." The sixteen year old's next words I couldn't hear.

"Is that.... alcohol?" Alder asked pointing at the dark liquid. "It looks like it... but, isn't he underage?"

"I don't know." I replied. I looked at Juan again. I'd never seen this side of him. This sort of calm and caring side. A thought entered my mind. Why doesn't he trust Gryffindor? I stepped back and snapped a twig. Juan jumped around, closing the bottle and putting it away and running off. He didn't see us. We stared at each other after he left.

"That was interesting," Alder commented. "Did you have any indication of this?" I shocked my head.

"None, except his voice broke when he said that Gryffindor can't be trusted." Alder looked away.

"Hm. I wonder why."

"Me too.." I stood up. "We should probably get going, we're probably late for class anyway. Transfiguration now," I said checking my schedule. We stood up walked over to Transfiguration. McGonagall looked extremely tired. I understood. She was usually tired, being Headmistress and all.

"Welcome class," she said, trying to sound awake. "Today, we'll be transfiguring willow leaves into teacups, get your wand ready." I got mine ready. I ended up transfiguring my leaf into the wrong kind of teapot. But Al's was perfect. "Well done Foley and nice attempt Sense." I smiled as did Alder. He was totally better than me at Transfiguration and I was better than him at Charms. I wasn't the best at Potions. McGonagall continued on with the lesson. At the end, Alder turned to me.

"Is it bad I feel a bit sorry for Juan now?"

"No it's not. I feel that way too."
