Chapter 10: Mirai's Novel
The next morning, Yukio made sure to wake early so he wouldn't miss out on any announcements like yesterday.
He got ready, and headed to the pool area. He saw Mirai by the pool in distress.
Nope! Not dealing with her today, thank you!
Yukio walked past her, but the brat called out to him.
"Hey, Yukio!" She called out, but Yukio ignored her. "Hello?! I know you heard me, damn it! Stop ignoring me!"
"Ugh...what?" Yukio gave in and responded.
"Finally, I'm in the middle of a crisis here!" Mirai complained.
"If that's all you wanted to say, I'm heading to the beach." Yukio said, as he started to walk away.
"Hey! Wait! I still need help, damn it!" Mirai grabbed Yukio's shirt, which prevented him from going any further away.
"Fine, what do you want me to do?" Yukio said, dismissively.
"I need your help something. I've been having writer's block lately." Mirai answered with a straight face.
However, Yukio didn't take it seriously. "You're a writer? That's a good joke."
"What'd you say?!" Mirai pulled out her umbrella gun, and shot at the ground below Yukio's feet.
"Whoa! Hey, careful with that!" Yukio warned, as he feared the idea of death while in this area.
"Then take me seriously, damn it!" Mirai shouted.
"Alright, alright. You have writer's block. What do you want me to do about it?" Yukio asked.
"Give me ideas! I need some inspiration for making a new character for the next chapter." Mirai said.
"Uh huh...wait, who's even reading this story? Are you showing it to ghosts or something?" Yukio wondered.
"No...because time is frozen here, I'm only getting one view from my most recent chapter." Mirai responded.
So it's a digital story...I guess that makes sense why these ghosts haven't read it. Wait...one view? Who's the one?
"Who's reading a digital story in this world?" Yukio asked.
He then heard someone approached from behind him.
"When are you uploading the next chapter?" The shy voice called out to Mirai.
Yukio turned around out of panic, and saw Murasaki standing with a purple stuffed-bear in her arms.
"Me and Bebeby have been looking forward to your newest chapter." Murasaki said.
Bebeby? That's the teddy bear's name? Since when did she have a teddy bear?
"I'm sorry, I just don't know how to make a new character interesting. I don't have anyone to reference." Mirai apologized.
"You use other people for reference?" Yukio questioned.
"She does. The Haruka girl that she hangs out with reminds me of one of the main characters." Murasaki said.
Yukio looked at Mirai, who had an embarrassed look on her face.
"D-Don't you dare tell her about this, Yukio!" Mirai shouted at him.
"Why am I the only getting yelled at?!" Yukio exclaimed.
Murasaki watched as they argued with each other.
"That's it!" Murasaki suddenly yelled out. "S-Sorry. You should make a character based on Yukio."
"Huh?!" Both of them exclaimed.
"Like hell I would do that! Why would I make a character based off of him?!" Mirai tried to dismiss the idea.
"I mean...I wouldn't mind if she hasn't already." Yukio said.
"I-I never said I did!" Mirai started to get flustered.
That's why I said 'if'.
"I think it would be a good idea. If you're worried at him reading it..." Murasaki said, as she took Yukio's phone from his pocket. "There."
"H-Hey!" Yukio exclaimed, he tried to get his phone back, but got pushed back by an unseen force instead. "W-What the-"
"Hmm..." Mirai thought about the idea.
"Come on, I want another chapter." Murasaki practically begged Mirai.
"F-Fine, I'll just put in my version of Yukio as the new character." Mirai gave in to Murasaki's requests. "I've got to get to my computer now."
Without saying another word, she rushed back to the hotel. Which left Yukio with Murasaki.
"So...I'm not getting my phone back, am I?" Yukio asked, Murasaki then tossed his phone back to him.
"I don't need to keep your phone from you. We're going to read the new chapter together." Murasaki said, her shy expression turned into a smug smile.
"Are you going to force me to read it?" Yukio asked.
"Yes." Murasaki simply responded.
Yukio let out an annoying sigh, then accepted his situation.
I guess this could tell me how Mirai thinks of me...wait, what if she made me a villain?!
Murasaki grabbed Yukio by his shirt collar, and dragged him back to the hotel. Murasaki pulled out her laptop and searched up Mirai's new chapter.
I'm surprised the internet works because...well, festival barrier stuff.
Murasaki and Yukio then started reading Mirai's chapter. However, Yukio couldn't keep up with Murasaki's fast-reading, so he only understood half of the story.
How can she read this fast?! I'm reading a single sentence, and she's already on the next page!
"Done. What did you think, Yukio?" Murasaki asked, 10 minutes after they started reading.
"I...I couldn't read it." Yukio said.
"Really? Fine, I'll let you read by yourself then." Murasaki said, and gave the laptop to Yukio.
Yukio sat down and started reading the story. After about an hour, Yukio finally finished.
I probably needed context from the previous chapters, but whatever. All I understood is that there was a lonely princess and he father was visiting for a couple days. The chapter highlighted him a lot, and about how caring and brave he was. But then...apparently the princess had a rival from a different kingdom, and they tried to assassinate her father. While he handled the assassins with the help of some knights, the princess requested him to go back to his home. However he refused, he knew his departure would make her lonely again, so he declined her offer and stayed with her for a while longer. That was the end of the chapter.
Yukio took a couple minutes to process the chapter, and who his character would be.
"I'm the princess's father?!" Yukio exclaimed.
Mirai sees me as a caretaker...even though she gets easily annoyed by me, and vise versa...yeah, no! There's no way she would think of me like that.
"I guess so...he was in the spotlight for most of the chapter, and he wasn't in any of the other chapters." Murasaki concluded.
"T-There's no way..." Yukio denied.
"What's wrong with that?" Murasaki asked.
"Huh?" Yukio was caught off guard with that question. "W-Well...I just didn't expect it."
Murasaki tilted her head in confusion. "Did you expect to be portrayed in a bad way?"
"Pretty much, yeah." Yukio responded.
Murasaki looked at Yukio, and sniffed the air.
"Ugh..." Murasaki let out an annoyed sigh. "I'm going back to my room."
"Huh? Wait, why? What'd I say?" Yukio asked.
Murasaki ignored him and left the lobby area.
Huh...I guess Mirai thinks of me that way...I guess even if she's short-tempered, she feels like a daughter to me.
Yukio got up, and headed back to the pool area.
To be continued...
