Chapter 8: Aftermath
After slaying one of the four Giant Yoma, Orochi. Yukio was ready to go back. He walked away from the monster's corpse, and saw the Hanzo girls approach him.
"Yukio! What were you doing?!" Ikaruga exclaimed.
"Uh...I was doing my part." Yukio responded, as he pointed at the pipes and wire, stuck in the Yoma's chest.
"Damn, you did that in a matter of seconds?!" Katsuragi asked in awe.
"Uh..." Yukio paused.
It's because of the new time-freezing power I got, I think I'll name it...Timer.
"I don't think I should get all this attention here." Yukio said.
"Well, you did manage to stab Orochi, multiple times, within a matter of seconds. Naturally, we are curious as to how you did it." Haruka said, as the rest of the Elites approached.
"I'm not the one who brought it down though, don't pay attention to me." Yukio said, he was flattered by the attention, but he didn't want to reveal his new power. "Asuka and Homura should be around here somewhere. Let's go find them."
The girls sighed, and they searched for Asuka and Homura.
"They're over here." Yagyu shouted, the two were right behind her.
"Asuka!" The Hanzo girls exclaimed.
"Homura!" The Hebijo Elites shouted.
The Hanzo ninjas rushed to Asuka, and hugged her, as the Elites did the same to Homura. Yukio stood back, and admired the sight of all the girls, reunited after the battle.
"This is the happy ending you wanted?" The female voice in his head asked.
Yeah, that battle took everything out of me. But it was worth it, these girls deserve a peaceful life.
"You really are a foolish human." The voice said. "Well, what did you learn from this?"
I learned that good and evil isn't just black and white. I've also learned to pity people like the Elites, they've been in hell throughout their entire lives. I've only known hell for a month or so.
The voice sighed. "Is that all? Have you really only learned something so trivial?" The voice said, annoyed. "We need to discuss something. Now, what was it you called your new power? Oh yeah, Timer!"
Everything froze in place around Yukio. He looked up, and saw a portal in the sky. In the portal, he saw a woman with long black hair that reached down to her knees, and black eyes, with her pupils in the shape of a little sun, which seemed familiar to Yukio. She wore a long black dress, and she smirked as she looked down at Yukio.
What is this...this strong presence...
"I'm the voice that's been in your head this whole time. Which means I can read your mind." The woman said, as she fell from the portal, and landed on her feet.
"W-What do you want?" Yukio said, he tried to keep himself calm.
Are you gonna fight me or something?
"Calm yourself, I want nothing from you. Well, not for now at least. Plus, fighting now would be pointless. I just trapped you in here to tell you a few things, to open your eyes a bit." The woman said.
"Haven't I learned enough?! With all the information that I already know, I'm surprised that I'm still mentally sane." Yukio exclaimed.
The woman chuckled. "Boy, the information I'm about to tell you is more crucial than anything else you've learned."
"What do you mean-"Yukio got interrupted, as the woman snapped her fingers.
Suddenly, cracks started to form all around Yukio's surroundings. The cracks opened, and his eyes widened as he found himself in some kind of spacial dimension. All around him were bunches of multiverses, universes, galaxies, and stars. The whole thing astonished Yukio.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" The woman suddenly appeared next to Yukio. "Answer this for me, out of everywhere you see, where would you like to go?" She asked.
"T-That has to be a trick question, there's too many places to go." Yukio answered, nervously.
"Exactly. Now imagine someone having the knowledge of everything you see here? What do you think that person is like, compared to you?" The woman continued asking.
"I would say...that person's cursed. They would have to deal with this much knowledge. What if some of it is horrific? If they are able to stay mentally sane after attaining all that information, they can't be human." Yukio responded, and the woman went silent.
Yukio gathered up some courage, and faced towards her. "Now that I answered your questions, you have to answer mine." He said.
"Brave, aren't you? Ask as many questions as you'd like, human." She replied.
"What are you? What is your name?" Yukio asked a simple question.
The woman sighed. "Quite the dull question, but fine. I'm a goddess, and my name is Kagura."
"Wait, Kagura?" Yukio was surprised by her response.
So there is a goddess named Kagura after all.
"You didn't think I existed? True, civilians were never supposed to know about me. However, you became the exception the moment you ran into me." The woman said.
"Ran into you? When did I-" Yukio asked, but Kagura interrupted him.
"Not necessarily me, but rather the little version of myself." Kagura said. She turned around, spit something out of her mouth, and her appearance changed to a familiar little girl in an oversized shrine maiden outfit.
"Y-You're...you were that little girl?!" Yukio exclaimed.
"Yep, and I recently saw you at the shrine before you went on this mission. I was eating some of my Red Orbs." The goddess explained.
"Wait, eating red orb things? You were her too?!" Yukio said, freaking out.
This goddess, was she taking different forms to spy on me?!
"Not really spy on you, more to observe you. Also, I had no control over which form I take. My appearance in age represents how much Red Orbs I've consumed." Kagura replied.
Ugh...the fact that she is reading my mind makes me even more uncomfortable.
"Observe me? Why?" Yukio asked.
"Because the first time we ran into each other, and I'm talking...the 'first' time. You accidentally consumed something of mine that gave you that Death's Restart power." She responded.
"Just what did I consume?" Yukio continued asking.
"This." Kagura took out a small red ball out of her pocket. it was tinier than a marble, and had some kind of symbol on it. "This is called a Red Orb, it's essentially the source of my power. Consuming these orbs generates my strength, which gives me the power to kill Yoma." She threw the orb into her mouth and swallowed it. She transformed back into an adult.
So the red boba was actually a power source, but...I don't remember consuming a 'Red Orb'.
"Well, you consumed one. I'm surprised you didn't realize it." Kagura explained.
"Wait, so I accidentally consumed a Red Orb. Which gave me Death's Restart, and all my other powers?" Yukio had trouble believing Kagura's story.
"It's true, a human like you would never understand the power those Red Orbs hold. However, you've awakened a new side of these Red Orbs. My powers have only been related to space and dimensions, I've never experienced anything related to time." Kagura said, intrigued.
"Space and dimensions? That sounds much cooler than having a time-related power." Yukio complained.
"Think about it, though. You are able to relive the past, control the present, and rewrite the future. Doesn't any of that interest you?" Kagura asked.
"If I've learned anything with this power...it's that time's a bitch, and there's nothing I can do to change that fact." Yukio said, and sighed. "Can I go back now? Or do you want something else from me?"
Kagura sighed then suddenly disappeared, and Yukio's surroundings started to reassemble back to normal.
"I will tell you some other time." Kagura said in Yukio's head.
Well...that was something. Kagura, Red Orbs, space and time. Let me guess, I can't say any of this to the girls.
Yukio's surroundings returned to normal, and time started up again. He suddenly felt drained, it was hard for him to stand.
Damn, why do I feel so tired? Could my body not handle Kagura's power?
"Yukio? Are you ok?" Asuka was the first to notice.
"Yeah, I'm fine." Yukio replied, and faked a smile.
"So now what?" Homura said, the Hebijo Elites looked upon their destroyed academy.
Everyone stayed silent, none of them knew how to respond. The only person to speak up was the one who asked the question.
"There's nowhere left for us to go, we betrayed the only people who would except us. Damn it." Homura said. The tanned ninja sat down, and punched the ground.
If only I could ask them to join us, they could be a part of our team. However, they are evil ninjas. They can't become good ninjas that easily. Especially Homura, she was banished out of a good ninja family.
Yukio settled down, and snapped back to reality.
"Well, the only thing we can do is go on the run." Hikage said, a hint of sadness in her voice.
Yukio bit his lip, and prevented himself from speaking. He approached Homura, and patted his pockets. He pulled a cellphone out of his pants pocket, and held it out to Homura.
"Just in case you need us. It's the least we can do." Yukio said.
Yukio placed the phone in Homura's hands. She stared blankly at him.
"Why do you care what happens to us?" Homura asked Yukio, upset from his pity charity.
"I know what you girls have been through, literally. It's only natural for me to care about you. Besides, I'm not the only one." Yukio looked at the expressions of the Hanzo girls, they were all sad for Homura and her friends.
Yukio could tell that they all wanted to comfort the no-longer-Hebijo-Elites. Homura gritted her teeth, but ultimately gave up, and stashed the phone into her pocket.
"I doubt this will be the last time we meet." Yukio said.
Asuka approached the two, and bowed to Homura. "Thank you for helping, Homura. We will see you again sometime!" She said.
When did Asuka and Homura become good friends all of a sudden?!
Homura sighed, and faced away from the two of them. "Asuka, You owe me a rematch. Yukio, don't expect me to trust you that easily, got it?" She said, she was trying to stay prideful.
Both Yukio and Asuka chuckled, and Homura walked off as the rest of the Elites followed her. Yukio and the Hanzo ninjas waved farewell to them, and headed back to their school.
To be continued...
