Chapter 5: Haruka
"Ahhhhh!" Yukio screamed.
That monster...what the hell was it? It didn't even step on me like it did with Katsu. It freaking ate me! It also seemed to be focused on me.
"I have to kill that monster, I have to." Yukio said, his voice was trembling.
There's no way, I can't kill that thing! I want it to pay for what happened to everyone, but...I'm just not ready to fight something like that.
"Damn it, what should I do?" Yukio asked himself. "I've just been standing here doing nothing."
Should I just give up? No. I'm not gonna turn and run away, but I'll get killed if I go further in.
Yukio started pacing back and forth, he was lost in his own thoughts.
Maybe I could enter one of the barriers and help the girls? Who am I kidding, I'm too weak to help them. They're going up against the Elites, and I'll get killed by anything that's hostile.
"Even if I want to do something, it'll only get me killed." Yukio muttered to himself.
He sat down in the corner of the room, and curled himself into a ball. He wanted to get out of the building. He wanted to get away from the mission.
"Everything was just fine until that damn Haruka went and mind-controlled Hibari!" Yukio shouted.
Yukio sat there for a little while longer until the secret entrance suddenly opened. The rest of the Hanzo ninjas entered the building. Yukio panicked and stumbled to the nearest classroom.
I can't let the girls see me like this. After seeing how they'll die, I can't see them like this.
Yukio started tearing up, but he wiped them off.
"Damn it, me. It doesn't matter how many times I'll suffer, or restart. I have to make this a happy ending, I have to." Yukio tried to strengthen his resolve.
He opened the door, and went back to the entrance. He took a deep breath.
"Hey girls!" He shouted.
"Huh? Yukio?!" They exclaimed.
"You found the entrance before we did?!" Asuka, the brown haired Shinobi was in awe.
"How the hell did you find it? It took us a long time to get to the entrance, let alone find the way to open it." Katsuragi, the blonde haired Shinobi chuckled.
"Nice job, Yukio. Have you already scouted ahead for us?" Ikaruga, the black haired Shinobi was impressed.
"This is what you were doing after you ditched me? Whatever..." Yagyu, the white pigtailed Shinobi sighed.
"S-Sorry for leaving you like that, Yagyu." Yukio apologized.
I completely forgot I was supposed to find Hibari with her.
"Have you already checked the upper floors, Yukio?" Ikaruga asked.
"O-Oh, yeah. There's a cellar a few floors up, I think Hibari is being held there. There's also a room at the very top of the building, it gives off a 'boss room' vibe, so the scrolls could be there." Yukio explained.
I know I'm right about this, unless the space-time continuum stopped working.
"Alright. We will split up into the same teams as before, and try to stay as a team this time. Ok, Yukio?" Ikaruga said.
"Got it." Everyone said. They went into groups. Yukio and Yagyu went to the cellar, while Asuka, Katsuragi, and Ikaruga went to the top floor.
"Yukio? Are you ok, you seemed quite stressed." Yagyu asked.
"Huh? No, no. I'm fine." Yukio lied, and faked a smile.
I can't even look at her without thinking about her death. It's gonna be the same with Hibari too. I need to forget about it.
Yukio slapped himself, and they continued toward the cellar. However, they were stopped in their tracks by one of the Hebijo Elites.
"Did you really think I'd let you get away?" The little blacked haired girl said.
"Mirai, right?" Yagyu asked.
"That's right. I'm gonna make you pay for our last fight." Mirai threatened.
Yagyu turned to Yukio. "Leave her to me, go and get Hibari."
"O-Ok." Yukio responded.
Yagyu rushed towards Mirai, "Shinobi barrier!" The two girls were then engulfed by a white bubble.
Yagyu's barrier color is black? I guess each Shinobi has a different colored barrier.
Yukio dodged the black bubble, and rushed towards the cellar.
"My, it seems we have been interrupted." A familiar voice said as soon as Yukio entered the cellar.
Yukio saw Hibari's cell was open, with Hibari pinned to the wall by Haruka. The other cell, that previously had the 'Suzune' woman in it, was closed and empty.
Where did Suzune go? Did she escape before I got here?
"Hibari, are you ok?" Yukio called towards the pink haired Shinobi.
"Y-Yeah, I'm fine." Hibari replied.
"Ooo, are you two going to team up against me? The more adorable weaklings, the merrier." Haruka taunted both of them.
"I'd rather not have a repeat of last time, but if I have to get through you to get to Hibari, let's fight then." Yukio said, and took a fighting stance.
"I see, you're still as weak as before, so you're more careful." Haruka replied.
"I know, I'm the weakest one here. That doesn't mean I'm gonna back down though." Yukio countered.
"Shall we start then? Shinobi barrier!" Haruka shouted. All three of them got sucked into the barrier.
Yukio looked around, and found himself surrounded by a pink atmosphere. He looked up, and saw a mansion covered in darkness.
This is Haruka's barrier, I don't remember a mansion being in the barrier last time.
"Yukio!" Hibari shouted, and ran towards him.
"Hibari, are you ok?" Yukio asked.
"Y-Yeah, I'm fine. Where is she? Where's Haruka?" Hibari asked.
They looked around, but couldn't spot Haruka.
"Um...Yukio?" Hibari got his attention.
"What's up?" Yukio asked.
"Y-You want to kill Haruka, don't you?" Hibari asked, her voice started shaking.
Yukio hesitated, unsure of how to answer her question. "...Yes, she needs to pay for what she's done. All of the Hebijo Elites need to pay for what they've done." Yukio said, as he remembered all the times he encountered and was killed by the Hebijo Elites.
"B-But...they're not bad people, Yukio." Hibari said.
"You're kidding, right?" Yukio chuckled, thinking Hibari was joking.
"I'm serious, Yukio. The Hebijo Elites...they are only like this because they had nowhere else to go. Homura used to be a good ninja like us, but she was exiled. She didn't have anywhere else to go but Hebijo academy." Hibari explained.
I know, I saw what she did to get herself exiled. However, she...only has herself to blame...right? She killed her teacher, to the point where his face was unrecognizable. She got herself exiled, she was driven by her anger, so it's her own fault...right? It's her fault that she got exiled...
"Well...what about Haruka? She's just as worse as Homura-" Yukio couldn't finished his sentence. He heard a voice in his head that cut him off.
"Transcend space and time." The female voice said, and Yukio's Soul Travel power activated.
When Yukio opened his eyes, he saw himself in a room. He was surrounded by different dresses, and a woman was holding a mirror in front of him. Yukio's eyes widened when he saw a small and young Haruka in his reflection.
Y-You're kidding me? I'm in Haruka's body! Why?! I don't care about her backstory, I don't wanna see it!
"You won't succeed, unless you learn." The voice in his head explained.
Learn? What am I supposed to learn from this?!
Yukio didn't get a response, and entered a montage of Haruka constantly dressing for the woman, who Yukio assumed was her mother. Yukio would occasionally see flashes of her father, but he couldn't make out a face. Yukio saw that Haruka was never allowed to leave the house, she never played with anyone from her school. She was just her mother's dress-up doll.
Ok, she was doted on a bit too much as a kid. The only thing I can say that I learned was that Haruka's parents aren't Shinobi. She was just a normal civilian, like me. Ugh...What am I even trying to learn from this information?!
One night, Haruka couldn't take it anymore. She poured gasoline up to the front of her house. Yukio could hear Haruka trying to hold back tears.
"If I just...burn it all. I'll finally be free. Mother, I'm so sorry." Haruka said, as she pulled out a lighter, and threw it to the ground.
However, there was no fire. The lighter disappeared before it could hit the floor.
"Kids aren't supposed to play with fire." A voice said, and Yukio recognized the voice.
It's the Suzune woman, this is gonna be my first time seeing what she looks like.
Yukio saw a tall woman with dark purple hair, tied into a ponytail, and red eyes underneath a pair of glasses. She wore a classy white dress, and had a mole on the top of her right breast.
Honestly, not the appearance I was expecting.
She showed the extinguished lighter to the young Haruka, and she stared in awe.
"Tell me this, Yukio. What have you learned?" The voice in Yukio's head asked.
Since when is the voice in my head able to communicate with me? What have I learned? What was I supposed to learn?
"It appears that you are too stubborn to figure out the reason for why I'm showing you these." The voice insulted Yukio. "You should learn about all of their backstories. Transcend space and time."
Not again, whoever is doing this is a real brat.
First, Yukio took the point of view of a dirty blonde haired little girl in the back alleys. The girl was clearly in poverty, and she was starving. She used to watch a news broadcast, and it showed a familiar young Ikaruga, standing next to a guy that Yukio couldn't see the face of. The girl's parents were so caring towards her, despite the fact that all three of them were starving, her parents would always give her the food. Eventually, the parents died of starvation, and the girl grew hatred towards rich kids, and the higher class. The girl was revealed to be Yomi.
Second, Yukio saw himself in the rain. He saw green hair in his peripheral vision, and immediately knew who he was. He saw the girl toss a throwing star, and it hit the bullseye of a target. A woman then approached the girl, but Yukio wasn't able to see her face or hair, all he could see was the knife that the woman held, yet he assumed she was the girl's mother. The girl was surrounded by bad people, who made fun of her for her expressionless face. The woman always took care of the girl, and told her to forget about them. Then one day, the woman disappeared for a few days. The girl was walking down an alleyway, and smelled blood. She looked in a nearby dumpster, and saw the woman's corpse. She was sliced to ribbons, with one of her knifes next to the body. The girl then felt her first expression, sadness. She took the knife near her body as a way to remember her. The girl was Hikage.
Lastly, he saw an eyepatch covering his eye, and black hair in his peripheral vision. He knew exactly who it was. The girl always got bullied at her school for multiple reasons, the boys would make fun of her eyepatch, while the girls would make fun of her flat chest. The girl developed trust issues, as well as a bosom complex. Eventually, she ended up at Hebijo academy. While she was at the academy, she was introduced and became friendly with the rest of the Elites, so she become the fifth and last member of the Elites. The girl was revealed to be Mirai.
Goodness, why did I see all of their backstories? No breaks, just all at once?
"What did you learn, Yukio?" The voice in his head asked again.
What am I supposed to gain from learning about their backstory? All I learned was that Yomi hates rich kids because her parents died in poverty, Hikage uses a knife because of her parental figure. And lastly, Mirai was bullied a lot, and was the last one to join the Elites...and she also has a breast complex. I feel bad the most for Mirai, because the only other people I've met who don't have big breasts are guys. If you're trying to make me care about them, you wasted your time.
"I showed you their backstories because you need to know about them in order to get what you desire, a happy ending." The voice replied.
Yukio returned back to his body.
To be continued...
