Chapter 3: The Mission

"This will be your mission. All of you will infiltrate Hebijo academy, return the scroll, and rescue Hibari." Kiriya ordered.

"Yes sir." The students responded.

"Meet me on the roof of the main building in ten minutes." Kiriya ordered, and disappeared.

Yukio and the girls left the classroom and prepared themselves for the mission.

"You're really not bringing any weapons, Yukio?" Katsuragi asked.

"No need, I'm not much of a fighter anyway." Yukio responded.

"You're gonna have to fight on this mission, Yukio. Are you going to only use your hands?" Ikaruga countered.

Of course, I can't tell them that Death's Restart is my main weapon.

Yukio didn't reply, and they continued towards the roof of the main building. Once they reached the roof, they found five hang gliders lined up.

"Is this what we're using to get to Hebijo?" Asuka asked.

"Looks like it." Ikaruga responded.

"You are correct." Kiriya appeared in front of everyone. "The winds are heading in the direction of Hebijo Academy, so you will glide as close to Hebijo academy as you need to. When you find the academy, take out however many guards necessary to make it inside."

"Yes sir." The students replied.

They waited until it was nighttime. They each hooked up to their glider, and said farewell to Kiriya. One by one, they left and headed towards Hebijo academy. Until it was just Yukio and Kiriya.

Oh, I almost forgot to ask Kiriya.

"Excuse me, Kiriya-Sensei? I have a personal question before I take off." Yukio said, while hooking himself to the glider.

"Make it quick, Yukio. You have to catch up to the others." Kiriya replied.

"Do you know someone named Suzune?" Yukio asked.

"Suzune? That name doesn't ring any bells." Kiriya responded.

Hmm...I thought she went here from what the evil ninjas said during my Soul Travel, but maybe I was wrong.

"Oh, ok. I was just wondering, I just heard someone by that name was going here a few years ago. Thanks anyway, Kiriya-Sensei." Yukio said, as he glided off towards Hebijo.

"A few years ago..." Kiriya stared out towards his students, and a black cat appeared next to him. "What are you thinking, Daidoji?" Kiriya asked, as the muscular Shinobi appeared before him.

"I'm thinking that Yukio knows something, and his 'Suzune' question was a hint." Daidoji replied.

"A hint? Do you think he really knows about Rin?" Kiriya continued asking.

"I doubt he knew what he was asking. However, I can only think of one other person who attended Hanzo academy a few years ago." Daidoji replied.

"Rin...if you are this 'Suzune', then why? Why have you been silent all this time?" Kiriya said to himself.

A few minutes past, and Yukio finally saw what he presumed to be Hebijo academy. A small complex of rundown buildings surrounded by a ten-foot-tall wall, with the tallest building in the center. The girls went to land right outside the school, and Yukio followed.

"Alright, everyone." Ikaruga spoke, quietly. "We should be able to get over the wall without being detected. Yukio and Yagyu, you two will go find Hibari. The rest of us will search for the scroll."

"Alright, let's go Yagyu." Yukio said. He went to scale up the wall, but failed.

Yagyu sighed. "Let me take the lead here." She grabbed Yukio, and tossed him over the wall.

"Good luck, you guys." Asuka said as Yagyu and Yukio left to go look for Hibari.

"Ow, did you really have to throw me?" Yukio asked.

"My bad, let's hurry and save Hibari." Yagyu replied.

"Alright, alright." Yukio agreed.

I guess my role is to supervise Yagyu. We'll rescue Hibari quickly and easily.

They ran around the academy, and couldn't find a clue to where Hibari might be.

"Shoot, what now?" Yukio said, already exhausted.

"Someone will tell us." Yagyu said. She had an evil look in her eyes.

"Uh...you don't mean torture, right?" Yukio was a little scared from Yagyu's statement.

"I meant eavesdropping. Even under circumstances like this, I'm not the type of person to torture someone." Yagyu said.

Phew, that's a big relief.

"Alright, let's look around for someone." Yukio said.

If only I could use my Soul Travel power to find Hibari's location.

"See the events unfold." A familiar voice in Yukio's head said.

Huh? W-Wait, that's the same voice that activates my Soul Travel ability. 'See the events unfold'...what does that mean?

Suddenly, Yukio heard footsteps. He looked and saw Hibari in a black and red school uniform walking around.

"Hibari?" Yukio said to himself, and followed her voice, which separated himself from Yagyu.

Yukio silently followed Hibari, and it brought him to the tallest building's walls. Yukio saw Hibari standing still, and saw her mouth moving up and down, but Yukio couldn't hear any words.

What am I seeing here? Should I call out to her?

"H-Hibari?" Yukio tried to call out to her, but she didn't even budge to his call.

Yukio got closer, until he was right behind Hibari.

"Hibari, what are you doing?" Yukio said.

Yukio went to tap Hibari's shoulder, but it phased right through her. Yukio fell back, surprised.

What the? A ghost?! Hibari's a ghost?!

Yukio swiped his hand towards Hibari, and it went right through her. While Hibari was still unfazed.

Wait, could this be some kind of puppetry? If so, then Haruka has got to be nearby.

As soon as he said that. Haruka, wearing the same outfit as Hibari, appeared next to Hibari, Haruka's mouth was also moving, but Yukio also couldn't hear anything she was saying.

"W-What is this?" Yukio backed up.

Is this some kind of new ability? This must be, like some kind of vision...or retrocognition?

Yukio reached to poke Haruka's face, and the same thing happened, his hand phased right through and she was still unfazed.

So they are some kind of vision?

Yukio waited until Haruka walked to a nearby tree, bumped a spot on the tree with her hip, and did a motion that looked like she was opening a compartment. However, nothing was happening to the tree for Yukio.

What the? What did she just do?

Haruka pushed a spot on the tree, and they looked to the building's wall. They walked towards the wall, and phased right through it.

"What the hell just happened?!" Yukio exclaimed, then shut his mouth.

Crap, I forgot this was a mission. What would happen if I followed those vision? I guess there's only one way to find out.

Yukio went to the same tree, and tapped the same spot on the tree. He moved his finger back and saw his fingerprint on that spot of the tree.

Wait, this tree is rusty? Is this some kind of secret compartment?

Yukio slid his finger along the tree, until it stopped leaving a line. He lifted where the line stopped, and it opened up to reveal a secret compartment with a huge button inside.

Hidden entrance! Alright, I should go tell Yagyu before I go any further...wait, how am I going to explain this to her?!

"Hmm...I'm gonna take a quick look inside, than go get Yagyu." Yukio decided, and he pressed the huge button.

The nearby wall shifted, and opened up to Yukio. He tiptoed inside, and the door closed up behind him.

"Crap, now I can't go back." Yukio said.

"Heh, no one can help you now." Yukio heard Homura's voice. He turned around, and saw the five figures before him.

"Oh, it's the cutie from before." Haruka said.

Ugh, I preferred the muted vision.

"You! You're the boy that was with that pigtailed bitch." A familiar black haired girl shouted.

"Oh, yeah. Uh...I'm sorry, who are you again?" Yukio asked.

"Erg...it's Mirai! Mi-rai! How dare you forget my name!" Mirai continued shouting.

Yukio then glared over at the long blonde haired girl, Yomi. She tilted her head to the side.

"Why are you glaring at me, filthy rich boy?" Yomi asked, disgusted at the sight of Yukio.

"Why are you so bothered by it?" Yukio countered.

She's the girl that killed Ikaruga in one of my previous lives. Now that it hasn't happened, she doesn't even know me. The sword she's wielding is still very scary though.

Yukio then glanced over at the green haired girl, but he got chills just from her yellow snake-like eyes.

What was her name again? Hikage, I think. I really don't know much about her, I only know that she kicked Katsu's butt twice.

Lastly, Yukio glared straight at the tanned Shinobi in the center, Homura. Yukio bit his lip, as he thought back to all the times he was killed by her.

I don't even care if I saw your past! I still wanna punch this psychotic bitch into the ground.

"You know you don't stand a chance. It's five to one." Homura chuckled.

"What are you gonna do? You're gonna kill me?" Yukio said in a snarky tone.

Heh, with my Death's Restart? I think I would stand a fair chance.

"What's stopping you?" Yukio taunted.

"Tch, come on. Leave him, he's not even a threat. We have to find his companions." Homura said, as she walked in the opposite direction. The other Shinobi followed.

"Huh? Hey!" Yukio tried to get their attention, but the only person willing to stop was Haruka.

"Don't worry, cutie. We're not done with you yet." She warned Yukio, and the Hebijo Elites left the room.

What the hell was that? Why didn't they kill me? They were supposed to kill me, and it would make me use Death's Restart. Do I chase after them? No, I need to find Hibari.

Yukio searched inside the building, until he finally found the cellar. There were two unguarded cells, one with Hibari, the other with an unknown figure.

"Hibari! There you are." Yukio said, and went up to Hibari's cell.

"Yukio? What are you doing here?" Hibari asked.

"I could ask you the same thing, but we don't have time to argue. Let's get you out-" Yukio was ready to kick down the cell door, until he suddenly couldn't finish his statement. He found himself on the ground.

Huh? What just...

Yukio looked down, and saw his body still standing in front of Hibari, without his head attached.

"Ahhhhhh! Y-Yukio!!!" Hibari looked in terror at Yukio's decapitated body.

Yukio's vision and hearing started to fade in and out. He looked over at the other cell, and saw the unknown figure holding a life-size three bladed shuriken, one of them was covered in his blood. Yukio could vaguely hear the figure's voice. It was a woman's voice.

"...not supposed to be here...escape and fight the Yoma...take it on myself..." was all that Yukio could make out before his hearing was gone. He looked over and saw Hibari, crying while hugging his decapitated body. Yukio eyes rolled back, and his vision was gone.

No...why? Why now? Just as I was about to do something worthwhile!

Yukio's brain finally shut down, ending his life.

"Ugh!" Yukio gasped, as he collapsed on the floor. "W-What the? No, no, no, no, no! Not this restart bullshit again! When did I even restart to?"

Yukio picked himself up, and saw himself at the entrance to the Hebijo building.

I'm inside the building? I don't see the Hebijo Elites either. Wait, my restart point was this quick?!

To be continued...
