Chapter 7
Corki got up in the middle of the night to get a drink of water. She walked past Hannah's room and realized the light was still on. She opened the door quietly and looked in. Hannah was busily typing away on her laptop. "What are you doing still up?" Corki asked.
The sudden noise startled Hannah. As soon as she had caught her breath, she said, "Studying for a big test. What about you?"
"Getting some water," Corki replied.
Hannah nodded. Suddenly, Corki clenched her stomach. "Corki!" Hannah yelled.
"Call 911," Corki croaked.
"Okay," Hannah said, grabbing her phone, and dialing the dreaded numbers.
Meanwhile, at McKendrick Prep....
There was a knock at XO-IQ's door. "Come in!" Jodi called.
"You guys up too?" Saylor asked, stepping into the room.
Sun Hi and Jodi nodded. "What is going on?" Sun Hi asked. "One moment I was sleeping, the next I felt so sick I thought I was dying."
Jodi sighed. "I feel like something's wrong," she said. "I just don't know what."
Saylor's phone went off. "It's Hannah," she said. "Holy crap."
Saylor showed her phone to the group.
Hannah (aka best sister evuh!): Corki, Jared, and I are on the way to the hospital, get there, fast! Get the girls!
All three girls didn't say a word, but put on jackets over their pajamas. They rushed out to Sun Hi's car, Jodi getting in the front with Sun Hi and Saylor getting in the back. "You guys got seatbelts?" Sun Hi asked quickly.
"DRIVE!!" Jodi and Saylor yelled at the same time.
Sun Hi sped off. Somehow, they managed to get to the hospital without getting pulled over or hitting anyone. Privileges of driving at one am.
They went up to the receptionist. "Corki Chang?" Jodi asked as calmly as she could.
"What's your relation?" the lady asked.
At the same time, Sun Hi said, "Band mates."
Jodi said, "Best friends."
Saylor said, "Soon enough younger sister-in-law."
The receptionist typed some stuff in. "She is in intensive care," she said. "Only the father of the children may see her. However, you may wait outside with another girl who came in with her."
The three band mates went upstairs to the room the lady had told them about. They found Hannah right outside it. Saylor hugged her best friend and older sister. "It's okay," Hannah soothed.
They stayed that way until Jared came out. "So?" Hannah asked impatiently.
"We're losing a baby," he said, then sat in a chair by the door, burying his head in his hands.
"What?!" all four girls said at the same time.
"We're losing PJ," Jared replied. "That's what we were gonna call the boy."
All four girls hugged Jared. "We won't know until later today," he said. "You guys can go home."
"Not gonna happen," Saylor said, rubbing her older brother's back.
Jared smiled at his little sister.
It was eight hours later when they finally got the news. Corki came out with a tear streaked face. Her band mates went to hug her. "Bad news?" Jared guessed.
Corki let out a giggle. "Nope, tears of joy," she replied.
Jared took her in his arms. "I love you," he told her.
"I love you too," she said.
The two remained like that until Sun Hi cleared her throat. "Right," Jared said. "Corki, do you want to go home?"
"Sure," Corki replied.
As Jorki drove home, Hannah and Saylor went out to eat, while Jodi and Sun Hi went back to the school. Hannah seemed oddly quiet.
"You okay?" Saylor asked, startling her best friend out of her dream like state.
"Huh? Yeah, I'm fine," Hannah replied.
Saylor shrugged it off. She knew there was something up, but she also knew how stubborn Hannah was. Talking at that moment wouldn't have gotten her anywhere.
Hannah was constantly checking her phone throughout lunch. Saylor was starting to get extremely worried. "Sis, what's wrong?" she asked.
"Nothing," Hannah said, closing her phone.
Saylor stared at Hannah. "Let me hold your phone," she said. "If there's nothing wrong than your phone won't say anything bad."
"Fine," Hannah said, handing her younger sister her phone.
Saylor unlocked the phone. Her eyes went wide as she saw the Twitter.
Hundreds of mean posts had been reserved only for the hatred of Hannah. Saylor looked up and saw that her sister was crying. She got up and walked to the other end of the table, wrapping her arms around the older girl. "Come on," she said. "Let's go for a walk."
Saylor put her arm around her older sister's shoulders as they walked. Hannah was still quiet, but it was better. The two sat on a park bench. Saylor hugged her older sister. "Come here," she said, and Hannah leaned in on her.
Hannah was her best friend and her sister. And she knew, they were going to be completely fine, as long as they stuck together.
